If we drew up a 'Recommender Charter', the first thing on the list would be 'The Right To Be Very Picky'. We're known for being a selective bunch, who deliberately stand as a filter between all the new emerging music and the wider public. Our main aim is to deliver quality cutting edge music that we believe has true potential and that should have a broad appeal. It's our modus operandi . It's part of our service. This leads to us covering a lot of the obvious genres, but away from the mass market appeal there's still some extraordinary [...]
![[EP] Duke Raoul – YOUNG STARLINGS (w. "Cloak & Dagger")](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3608894_lg.jpg)
wait for the morning to bring the sun, tonight we'll be dreaming of rain ♫ Duke Raoul - Cloak & Dagger Duke Raoul play the kind of slippery indie jams that can seem a bit caffeinated and rough around the edges but after a few listens they soak into your skin and you just wanna hit repeat. Their Young Starlings EP is four tracks of churning and catchy rock music that seem appropriate for both sweaty basements and summery days. I'm not sure how they pulled that off but it could have to do [...]

Duke Raoul is a quartet with two EP's to their name. The band is definitely notching out a special place for themselves in the UK music scene. With the hints of calypso and surf rock you'd expect SoCal to be the place that they call home but Brighton, England is where they hang their hats. This in unlike anything that we've really heard come out of that region of the world. There aren't heavy ties to Franz Ferdinand, The Kooks or Editors, Duke Raoul are paving their own ground. You can download their newest EP, Young Starling [...]
A long week, huh? (That's a Kanye huh, btw. So it's really huuuuh). Two late night festival announcements, loads of tour dates, and two American Idol episodes featuring Steven Tyler's plastic face. If you're like me, then the weekend really can't come soon enough. But before you go, let's cap things off with another edition of our Friday Mixtape. Featuring brand new singles from The Mountain Goats, I'm From Barcelona, and Akron/Family, a few quality remixes, and handpicked covers from our friends at Cover Me , there's a whole slew of stuff to check out. [...]

I was sad to hear about the death of Gerry Rafferty (RIP Gerry) last week. Gerry's 'Baker Street' is one of those songs that sounds like nothing else it was an original and it still gives me chills down my spine when I hear that sax solo. I was pleased therefore when Brighton's Duke Raoul (who were first featured on the Devil's blog in June last year, The Duke Spirit ) sent me a copy of their cover of 'Baker Street' a perfectly poignant, downbeat tribute to the great [...]

Duke Raoul From: Brighton, United Kingdom If you look between the cracks of the music business off the A&R's usual well trodden paths you'll find some interesting, exciting young bands getting on with the business of creating great music far from the prying eyes on the voracious industry vultures. One such band are Duke Raoul, who I am assuming are named after the antihero in Hunter S Thompson's autobiographical novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The Brighton quartet eschew trends and [...]
The latest in our Twitterview series comes as an interview with Brighton lads Duke Raoul.

Words by Oliver Primus Photography by Tim Boddy Saturday afternoon saw the return of The 405 at the Notting Hill Arts Club and it coudln't have gone any better. Duke Raoul, Favours For Sailors, 4 or 5 Magicians and Stagecoach pulled out all the stops, Wil Cook played some amazing songs and the fine people that turned up spent the afternoon/evening watching some great bands and drawing us some amazing pictures (more on that very soon!) We've got loads of photo's to share with you over the next few days but here's a litte taster [...]
First off, can you tell us a little something about yourselves? Your background? How you met? Etc. When I moved down to Brighton from Manchester I met Jez who was looking for players for his band, Le Band Extraordinaire. We both joined each other's bands and then Chris joined from that band too. Dan saw our ad on the Drowned in Sound boards and yeah that's it really... We play a mixture of riffy post-rock with some shoegazey synths, post-punky noise and poppy bits. Band name. Where did the inspiration come from [...]
