You know about my adoration for all things Finnish right? Well, Kiki Pau win right off the bat, but also because they're associated with both Dungen and Beyond Beyond is Beyond Records . If you've got five minutes, and I know that you do, you need to sit down, preferably somewhere quiet. There's multiple movements within this song, and there's no way you can really put some generic label upon the track-that's probably a good thing. I like the light-hearted vibe entering in around the 3 minute mark. [...]

When Dungen burst onto the scene (in the US at least), frontman Gustav Ejstes seemed a man out of time. Or at least one so devoted to the range of vintage psychedelic practices that one would think he had spent his whole life in a very particular academy. Since we pretty much live an environment of neighboring nostalgia bubbles, there's no point anymore in picking at people for lack of originality. Given that, I was totally sold on the songwriting and presentation, which was as faithful to Ejstes's notion of the ideal late '60s as it is a reminder that [...]
The Amazing hail from Sweden and share some members with that country's well-known retro-psych outfit Dungen (our most recent recording of them HERE ). While The Amazing also share some stylistic traits with that band, most obviously the stellar guitar work of both bands' lead guitarist Reine Fisk, they also stand as a distinct entity. The Amazing's sound is a more nuanced affair than the rock behemoth that is Dungen, and their songwriting is more wistful and textured. Frontman Christoff Gunrup sings in English, and that combined with the instrumental approach gives The Amazing the caste [...]
As a great man once said, this is "trippy, mayne." It's nice that a consensus has built around Tame Impala . Who wouldn't want to hear the halfway point between Dungen and the Lennon songs from Revolver? Related: check this Tame Impala live review from POTW potentate, Jonah Bromwich .

We've been waiting since 2010 for TAME IMPALA to release a follow-up to the mighty successful Innerspeaker . Although some of the band have been keeping themselves busy with Pond (live review HERE ), we just can't help but want some news from our favourite Perth psychedelic band. Especially when Splendour in the Grass is just around the corner. It appears that the band are taking on synth in their sophomore album. 'Apocalypse Dreams' is our taster: a piece of psych-out [...]
I'm always hard-pressed to answer the question: what rock music are you listening to? I find most contemporary bands either insufferably boring or reductive. I suppose you could extend that same derision to Dungen, whose pastoral, flute-laced orchestrations takes their cues from Parson Sound, Hendrix, and dozens of obscure Nordic psychedelic connoisseurs. Most people haven't heard of Dungen, so I just tell them that they sound like Tame Impala. People love Tame Impala. I like them a lot too, but Dungen is my favorite working band. If Gustav Estjes sang in English, I imagine he'd be [...]
A new video was created for Dungen ’s “Blandband”, taken from 2010’s Skit I Allt . Everything this group produces feels timeless and educational in some way. (via NMB / JJJ )
Despues de dos años (DOS años) de la aparicion de "Skit I Allt", por fin el dia de hoy Dungen se decidio a postear el video oficial perteneciente a uno de los tracks de ese material: "Blandband". Ben Wigler has been all over the indie rock landscape; an alum of the band Arizona, he's also performed backing vocals for Dead Confederate, Samantha Crane and the Indigo Girls. With his new outfit, New Beard, he crafts deluxe, swirling indie odes that mine Beatles-y textures, songs dense with instrumentation and unconventional percussion. Dungen's Gustav Ejstes produced "Given" as well New Beard's forthcoming debut LP; he also provides backup vocals. Dive into the video for "Given" and grab an MP3 of the track after the jump. Sweden's Subliminal Sounds will be reissuing the landmark 2004 album "Ta Det Lugnt" by Dungen as a limited edition box set. Fully remastered from analog sources, the set will contain three 123 records and a full size poster, and be limited to just 1000 copies. From the label: "The original, and previously only available 2004 vinyl LP pressing, was incorrectly manufactured from digital master instead of analogue, had several defects and didn’t sound at all as intended. We have now gone back to the original vinyl master and made a correct and [...]

No, the title of this post wasn't me sneezing violently upon the keyboard-Dungen (pronounced dun-yen ) is a Swedish rock group with a vintage psychadelic twist sure to vädjar till din hörlurar , or, please your ears. Or, when translated from English to Swedish to English again, appeal to your headphones. It works any of the three ways, really. I saw Dungen a year ago to the week, almost. I didn't realize this earlier when I went looking for their site and checked out an extensive list of tour dates. Cool , I thought. [...]
One of my best friends, Mark Cuadrado (aka Slowcore Pictures) has prepared and amazing video for Dungen's "Fredag." I promise you'll want to watch this one over and again. Their new album, Skit I Allt, which roughly translates into "fuck it" or "fuck all" will be released by good old Mexican Summer on September 14th [...]

Every year since the late 1990s, I have sat down and created a year end mix to summarize my favorite tracks from the past twelve months. Every year this mix seems to be completed later and later, and gets longer and longer. The day I write this post (April 28), I have finally completed the...

Billowing clouds of smoke, a neon-lit cast of tie-dye colors, and various voodoo references help define The Great Society Mind Destroyers. Chaos is an all-encompassing description once the opening track on the Chicago-based quartet's new album, Spirit Smoke, gets underway. “Temple Lurker” sounds nearly half-ironic in its title; its whirlwind of heavily distorted psych-rock is [...]
