Ben Wigler has been all over the indie rock landscape; an alum of the band Arizona, he's also performed backing vocals for Dead Confederate, Samantha Crane and the Indigo Girls. With his new outfit, New Beard, he crafts deluxe, swirling indie odes that mine Beatles-y textures, songs dense with instrumentation and unconventional percussion. Dungen's Gustav Ejstes produced "Given" as well New Beard's forthcoming debut LP; he also provides backup vocals. Dive into the video for "Given" and grab an MP3 of the track after the jump. Sweden's Subliminal Sounds will be reissuing the landmark 2004 album "Ta Det Lugnt" by Dungen as a limited edition box set. Fully remastered from analog sources, the set will contain three 123 records and a full size poster, and be limited to just 1000 copies. From the label: "The original, and previously only available 2004 vinyl LP pressing, was incorrectly manufactured from digital master instead of analogue, had several defects and didn't sound at all as intended. We have now gone back to the original vinyl master and made a correct and [...]

No, the title of this post wasn't me sneezing violently upon the keyboard-Dungen (pronounced dun-yen ) is a Swedish rock group with a vintage psychadelic twist sure to vädjar till din hörlurar , or, please your ears. Or, when translated from English to Swedish to English again, appeal to your headphones. It works any of the three ways, really. I saw Dungen a year ago to the week, almost. I didn't realize this earlier when I went looking for their site and checked out an extensive list of tour dates. Cool , I thought. [...]
One of my best friends, Mark Cuadrado (aka Slowcore Pictures) has prepared and amazing video for Dungen's "Fredag." I promise you'll want to watch this one over and again. Their new album, Skit I Allt, which roughly translates into "fuck it" or "fuck all" will be released by good old Mexican Summer on September 14th [...]

Every year since the late 1990s, I have sat down and created a year end mix to summarize my favorite tracks from the past twelve months. Every year this mix seems to be completed later and later, and gets longer and longer. The day I write this post (April 28), I have finally completed the...

Billowing clouds of smoke, a neon-lit cast of tie-dye colors, and various voodoo references help define The Great Society Mind Destroyers. Chaos is an all-encompassing description once the opening track on the Chicago-based quartet's new album, Spirit Smoke, gets underway. "Temple Lurker" sounds nearly half-ironic in its title; its whirlwind of heavily distorted psych-rock is [...]

I liked the Swedish psych-prog of first album Ta Det Lugnt a lot but have listened less and less to their subsequent albums that have become more muso and even, whisper it, a touch jazz-rock. But 'Ӧga, Näsa, Mun' takes me back to the days of 'Panda' and 'Festival' from that first record, great sonic booms of melodic psych-rock. This is more folky and flute-y but it has a great seam of melody running through it. 'Highway Wolf' on the flip is more of the floaty prog rock that has generally put me off them though.
Each Tuesday, FADER editor Matthew Schnipper highlights an underappreciated release he thinks we need to know about. This week it's Olaf Arnald's Innundir Skinni, unofficial runner up for the Nordic Music Prize. Listen to the album's opener here and read Schnipper's thoughts about the selection process after the jump. Last week I was invited to Oslo [...]

The Hell's Angels long had global ambitions. From their humble beginnings in 1948 as a pack of thrillseeking and hellraising ex-airmen out of Fontana, California to near mythic ,and certainly iconic, status under the leadership of Sonny Barger out of Oakland less than 20 years later with chapters all over the United States. Today The [...]

Boston-based Tinnitus Photography (aka Tim) is one of the better working rock and roll photographers out there right now. He speaks for many of us veteran concert goers with his tag line "...the next best thing to being there, or at least helping to compensate for a faulty memory. Amen to that. Tim's compiled a look at his top concerts of 2010 , along with his stunning images captured across all musical spectrums. He writes: "By my estimate, I saw about 235 performances this year..it was a pretty tremendous year for [...]
