I haven't had much time of late to write. The house project of repainting walls, painting trim, pulling up carpets, and laying down bamboo has absolutely dominated my time. That and working on my BMW, which in the past few weeks has received a full tune-up (with exception of replacing points and cleaning the carb). I'm hoping that come mid-week, I'll be back in my normal post routine. As time has been limited, I thought "Desert Island Picks" would be a good topic for the week. Unfortunately, I left off [...]

The Hudson Dusters was a band put together by legendary folksinger Dave Van Ronk in a short-lived attempt to buy into the folk-rock craze that hit the States in the mid-sixties. Though Van Ronk was one of the founding fathers of the original Greenwich Village revival, he had never really conformed to any of the stereotypes which were so quick to develop among his contemporaries. Thus, the music which developed out his "going electric" was far more eccentric than most people's. This was no attempt to simply copycat (and thus capitalize on) Dylan's new aesthetics, this was an artist expanding [...]

Collecting and orchestrating music samples into coherent ideas may be perfected by professional dj's, but I find my interests don't take root until I search out the connections between songs and artists myself. And this invariably leads [...]
"Duster has the classical Soukie & Windish groove with a great atmosphere and cool vocals. Flott is a perfect summer groover with a fresh sound and a great bassline. Hamburg/Berlin based Soukie & Windish released one of their first 12-inches on 200 Records – the EP "Elsewhere" (200 005 – March 2010). They have released [...]

Jesus.. more rain. You can fight it if you want but sometimes it's best to let your shoulders fall low and walk around like one big exhale. When the sun comes out you can pretend like none of that ever happened, but depression sure is fun for the afternoon. Run out of Bedhead, Built To Spill, Sebadoh, Butterglory and whatever other compact discs you had from when you were sixteen? Duster floats down softly like the straw that broke the camel's back every time. Hmm.. sometimes I wonder if the stuff I write even makes sense. Am I [...]
