2011 was a good year for dance music, but 2012 looks like an even better one. A plethora of dance/electronic releases are on the horizon — everything from albums and mix compilations by up-and-coming artists to full-lengths and compendiums by acts with proven track records. We've been meticulously sorting through our promos and listening to streams in order to gauge the upcoming crop of albums. So far, we really like what we've been hearing, and there seems to be plenty of musical diversity and fresh ideas. Here's a list of 75 releases that every dance/electronic music fan should have on their [...]

Yes! In time for NYE! This is my favorite year-end list to make because its obviously the most fun. And I give it the least amount of stress. Read on for all my favorite party/dance jams split into three increasingly heated sections. Almost all these tracks could fit into the last one but I had to split them up somehow! There is not much organization here, just grooves for miles. So polish those dancing shoes and get limber because I wanna see you bounce! Note that the list ends with a very appropriate title (and song) for New Years [...]

Burial - Kindred EP Hyperdub recently announced that there'd be new material from Burial coming in 2012, and yesterday, in their mailout to their subscribers, a few more details became clear. Burial's Kindred EP is coming in January and it'll feature three tracks - 'Kindred' on the A side, and 'Loner' and 'Ashtray Wasp' on the B. 'Ashtray Wasp' was played on the label's show on Rinse FM recently - have a listen here . No other exact details just yet - but January just got a little bit more exciting [...]
The champions of mashups have officially thrown their hat in the ring of production with this full length debut. Earlier this year we had tastes of this, but now we finally have the full album. The 14-track affair, commissioned by Mishka, features remixes of Foster The People, The Rosebuds, DVAS, and guest vocals from friends like [...]

We featured Electric Youth 's new single 'Right Back To You' a couple of weeks ago , now the whole reMix package is available to buy. 'Right Back To You' is an amazing return for the Canadian duo after what feels like a period away from releasing. Everything we fell in love with about Electric Youth back in 2009 is present, it's epic '80's movie Pop, with an uplifting quality, that has obviously been crafted with such love for it's influences and the passion which Bronwyn and Austin have put into getting it just right is [...]

Canadian duo Electric Youth , of the movie "Drive" OST fame, have finally released their awesome track "Right Back to You", that we wrote about a little over a year ago . The EP with the same name includes two remixes by DVAS and Sarah Sarah, plus a "B-side" that is just as good as the original. Head over to iTunes and by it! And don't forget to follow them on Facebook . Electric Youth - Right Back To You (Now Available on iTunes) by [...]
Does anyone else feel like Electric Youth should release stuff more often? They're easily one of Canada's finest ElectroPop exports but we hear from them so sporadically. Take 'Coming Right Back To You', which we first heard a year ago and is finally available to buy. it's a track that shows off just how clued up EY are when it comes to both songwriting and production styles in a mid-'80's Pop vein. It's easy enough to recreate, or be influenced by '80's music, but the era does have a particular signature when it comes [...]

THE BOOMCAST #7 (French Fries & Scratcha DVA b2b Marcus Nasty) by ClekClekBoom
A few hours ago Scratcha DVA posted a link to 'Polyphonic Dreams', a tune from his forthcoming November release on Hyperdub. Even though the first comment it received on Facebook was "this is mad bro", which sent me on an hour long Jersey Shore clip tangent, I did manage to listen to it and can confirm that it is mad...bro. I imagine it would fit perfectly over some trippy iridescent footage of a man in a mental asylum. Imagine A Clockwork Orange meets The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test and you're not really there but you may [...]

Dripping with elements of goth, post-punk, industrial and bare-bones rock and roll, Los Angeles' DVA Damas manage to incorporate hints of a broad range of influences into a tight, sparse package of dark-wave goodness. Stripping their music to its most minimal elements - bare–bones rock riffs, thinly placed synths, saturated-yet-hollow bass lines and dry industrial percussion - its hard to imagine them as a flushed out five piece. Creating a tension between the instrumentation and the open space between the individual sounds, the band creates a haunting backdrop to Taylor Burch's seductively dry vocal delivery. [...]

SGTMT

Tweet DVA, who also goes by the name Scratcha, is one of Hyperdub's darker sounding producers, but this remix of Just Vybe with vocals from Fatima (off Alexander Nut and SGTMT favourite Floating Points' Eglo label) is well nice. We're well late to the party on this one, but who needs summer sounds in October, when it got it's release? No, no, no, now's the time:

trance, trance, trance... dance, dance, dance ♫ DVA - Tatanc DVA are Czech so excuse yourself for not understanding what they are singing here. However, do not excuse yourself for not feeling the grooviness of this cutest little bounce jam. This song crosses all language barriers and should definitely be utilized to woo that foreign dude/chick you have been eyeing. Mixtape time! Head over to Polychronic for a mellower taste of their flavor and then pick up their album Hu . Crank the amp at Bandcamp [...]

Toronto - The Mod Club was home to one massive dance party on Friday night and the club crowd have Toronto's DVAS and Australia's Miami Horror to thank for it. I'll be frank, I wasn't even aware of Miami Horror until two months ago. Clearly, I was the only one as the Mod Club was sold out and there was a healthy lineup at the venue when I arrived there at midnight. Making their Toronto debut Friday, Miami Horror wasted no time in living up to the lofty expectations the sold out crowd had [...]

Pic: ak47 Dva Damas - Brand New Head ( buy ) Don't think Dva Damas ' release on Downwards can be described any better than this: In essence this record draws a line between the attitudes and aesthetic of leather-jacketed 50s rockers, late 70s New York punks and 90s techno industrialists to end up in 2010 where it's everything, all at once. Downwards also just released Tropic Of Cancer's Be Brave , video below. [...]

We guess that you like Scratcha DVA 's mixes as much as we do. Indeed this guy often gives previews of what is gonna be big for the next months. Moreover his selections always include some of his last productions. That mix for the coming Bricks Basement Party in London is one of them! Toronto electro-pop outfit DVAS stepped out onto the scene in big way last year. With the release of their album Society , the duo's notoriety rose dramatically with their songs heating up dance floors and getting remix treatments by the likes of The Hood Internet among others. Electronic at first listen, but with some definite pop in their step, the duo succeed by finding the middle ground. Sounds of the Society album below.
