The Dwight Twilley Band - Sincerely If there's a case for Big Star never quite getting their due for locking down the power pop template and dosing it with a heavy helping of Memphis soul then its undeniable that Dwight Twiley and by extension his writing partner Phil Seymour have really never gotten their fair share of acclaim. Any fan of #1 Record or Radio City owes it to themselves to check into Twilley's Sincerely . The record was fleshed out after Seymour and Twilley had [...]

For a blog going by this name, the death of multiple Grammy award-winning producer and pioneering sound engineer Roger Nichols is particularly noteworthy. The school mate of Frank Zappa was crucial in the development of Steely Dan's sound, from the West Coast rock of Can't Buy A Thrill to the jazz-tinged material on Aja and the comeback album Two Against Nature. It's his hand on the back-cover of Countdown To Ecstasy. Actor Tim Robbins' parents were folk singers. Gil Robbins was a member of the pioneering folk group The Highwaymen; he died on 5 April; his wife Mary passed [...]
You know the drill by now on how this works. This week, I picked the word "warm" because it's that miserable time of year where the temperatures are starting to consistently hold above freezing (at least during the day) but the threat of another winter blast is still looming, ready to strike at any moment. So, I thought I would try to do my part to will Spring to arrive by channeling warm thoughts/sounds. Let's start out with a newish tune from Warm Ghost. I remember hearing about Warm Ghost, once a solo project by [...]
Feeling less than than Rock this week - not sure why - change of weather? Change of plans? Change of direction? Maybe all the above. Am seeing a Rock Coach named Mike in NYC next week to work it all out. :-) So we have this week's Pop Clip of the week - not quite rock, not quite dead, but somewhere in between. Dwight Twilley wrote a song called "You Were So Warm" back in 1970-something. It came out on his first LP "Sincerely" in 1976 which I was playing tonight on a table that turns, [...]

Dwight Twilley Band - Looking For The Magic Some music for your Memorial Day car wash, pool party, and/or barbeque. That step down to the minor chord on the chorus keeps segueing into the bridge of Waterloo Sunset in my head. In other words, where Dwight goes "Whoa, oh oh oh I I", I keep ending up at the "Chilly chilly is the evening time" bit of Waterloo. FWIW. Happy Memorial Day, America.

I got a hold of a Zen Vision mp3 player around Christmas and have been using it almost every day at work since. It's fantastic to be able to listen to new music while working and some old stuff as well. There are quite a few songs that have become favourites thanks to that Zen. Sometimes while slaving away I think to myself, "This song should be heard by more than just me" and that's what this little mix is, little ol' me stickin' my earbuds in your ears (if you don't mind). dwight [...]
