Love or hate The Smiths , it's a testament to their songwriting legacy that the B-side "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want" alone has been covered more than a dozen times by artists ranging from the Deftones and The Dream Academy to Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward. Reactions to The Smiths' music run from delirious adoration to not being able to stand the sound of Morrissey's voice; Please, Please, Please is a must-get for the former category and just may be the most perfectly acceptable dose of Moz for those who fall into the [...]

How cutesy pie to call yourself after a Belle & Sebastian song (well, almost) and to seal the deal by using a similiar song naming convention as adopted by the Scottish troupe. Not that Dylan In The Movies are particulary B&S sounding (in fact Brian Sullivan's vocals are very close to that of Yan from British Sea Power) as they follow a more direct indie rock route (ok, early B&S then). Sullivan's gra for writing music came after a period of working in a Boston studio and the contacts he made led to the likes of Tanya Donnelly and Jenny [...]

Girl With The Black Tights by BrooklynRocks The new single from Dylan In The Movies has officially dropped (click on the cover to go to iTunes). "Girl With the Black Tights (feat. Tanya Donelly)" is another Dylan In The Movies gem full of epic hooks and beautiful harmonies. Indie-rock goddess, Tanya Donelly (Throwing Muses, Breeders, Belly) shares vocals and co-write credit. Dylan In The Movies is the musical brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Brian Sullivan. In 2006, the band's self-released ep "Feel the Pull" earned the [...]
A few Sundays back I once again had the honor of DJing the annual Bazaar Bizarre Boston, a massively multi-vendor crafy-fair that I'd attended many times before I was invited to actually show up and share a personal playlist. For me, it only starts feeling like the holiday season after I've spent an early-December afternoon there, and the fact that I get to provide the shopping soundtrack for a

Brian Sullivan is the driving force behind Boston's DYLAN IN THE MOVIES, on track to deliver their long awaited debut full-length "Josephine If You Only Knew" in Spring 2010 on American Laundromat Records. This new release will feature guest appearances from the Watson Twins (Jenny Lewis with the Watson Twins) and Tanya Donelly (Throwing Muses, Breeders, Belly), who also shares a co-write credit on the track 'Girl With the Black Tights.' Having recorded the album at a number of New England locales, most notably on an idyllic farm in New Hampshire, the sound is charged with [...]

I get an awful lot of stuff in my inbox. When I get jaded and fed up it seems like a bit of a burden, in all honesty, like I owe it to every band and every publicity monkey who ever gets in touch with me to give them complete attention and the time to let the music sink in and all these things which just aren't possible. Sometimes, though, I get in the right mood and having an inbox full of bits and bobs is an indulgent treat. This week is one of those weeks, where I [...]

American Laundromat Records (ALR) has produced a 16-track CD titled 'Just Like Heaven - A Tribute to The Cure' , featuring one of the all time indie greats (and a Devil favourite) Tanya Donelly ( Throwing Muses , Breeders and Belly ) & Dylan In The Movies [...]
There's nothing exceptionally incredible about Dylan in the Movies , but I hope that doesn't make Brian Sullivan cry. There's still a place in my heart for the exceptionally solid. From what I can gather, since the 2005 release of Feel the Pull , Brian has been pretty quiet, but with a split 7'' just released and a full-length album due later this Spring, 2007 should be a banner year. It's wildly approachable, blending a Del Amitri meets The Wallflowers type of vibe, and it simply makes you feel good. Listen: City Skies [...]

I've been sort of jamming with some gal friends in an acoustic mini-band for fun (and no, we didn't name ourselves something dainty and/or involving unicorns or sparkly things). I wail on the djembe and we have a grand time -- sounds very hippie but it's not. In any case, yesterday afternoon we were talking about how one gal just had her guitar swiped out of her car. The best I could come up with was a consolation which suggested that perhaps said thief thought that Takamine actually read, "Take-mine." [...]

You see these things floating around the web all the time -- some studio engineer "sneaks" out 15 seconds of some megastar's new hit, which then miraculously finds its way onto every fan board and blog on the internerd. At least pop's hype machine offers the illusion of subtlety, even if somewhere it's inked in as part of the marketing plan. The thing we loved about the Killers leaking a 40-second snippet of their new single was that the Stereogum link went right to Island/Def [...]
