Local illustrator Good Sniff has gone to the liberty of sketching more than 300 individual faces belonging to 106 Brisbane bands. "It got to a point about midyear where I’d be scooting around in the Valley and I’d recognise people because I’d drawn their faces. Which is creepy". He describes it as "character design exercise that got waaaay out of hand". Do take a closer peek at this - it's scarily accurate, even if nearly everyone here looks a little seedy. My favourites are Violent Soho looking like [...]

Imagine bands as ingredients for a musical beverage. Pour half of the thrash, metal, slacker punk of DZ DEATHRAYS . Now fill the rest with the psychedelic, dreamy, sweet pop of OPOSSOM . Blend the two together and you get a completely new result; a cocktail not sounding anything like the two bands at all. This is what's happened with OPOSSOM 's mix of DZ 's 'Dollar Chills'. Very different to the original's heavy, fuzzy guitar riff and subtle yet progressive drumming, this remix opens up [...]

DZ Deathrays played a stellar set at Sticky Mike's Frog Bar in Brighton. Here's some snaps from the "quiet" Tuesday night. Full HD recording to come...

DZ Deathrays New Zealand's OPOSSOM , who maybe you caught at CMJ , has remixed Brisbane duo DZ Deathrays 's "Dollar Chills", a track from their recent LP Bloodstreams . We're premiering that remix today. Stream it along with the Cadence Weapon version of the same song and some other stuff, below... Monday nights are typically spent realigning the brain cells from the weekends debauchery, not the case this Monday night. We ventured out across the London overground to an amazing venue in Camden, named Barfly which was hosting one of Brisbane, Australia's best live acts, DZ Deathrays. The strong pommy cohort were there in typical fashion with a pint thereof to witness what Shane Parsons and Simon Ridley, do best. Deliver their furiously energetic rumble of sound, leaving no stone upturned throughout the sets entirety, to a backdrop of neons and [...]

There are a lot of remixes - and, of them, a lot of dubstep remixes - of "Niggas In Paris." This is most likely due to the original song's simple, repetetive background. There's a lot you can do with it without having to change the essence of the song. That said, this one's one of the better ones. Courtesy of Dubstep.net . Last night saw the launch of Kissability , the new cassette-only label founded by Jen Long in association with Transgressive Records. In celebration, the Radio 1 DJ threw a mighty swell Halloween bash at Islington's Buffalo Bar to promote the label's formation. The bill's line-up included noisey Aussies DZ Deathrays (whose Ruined My Life EP was the first pressed on the soon-to-be iconic pink cassette), the self-proclaimed "four geeky childmen with skinny girl wrists and a taste for creating angular, intricate punk" Ice, Sea, Dead People and scuzz-pop darling Crushed Beaks [...]

DZ Deathrays, by Kenny McMurtrie By Kenny McMurtrie October 21, 2011 For those about to mosh … This pair tore things up tonight – a more mobile frontman I’ve yet to witness in Sneaky’s and getting an un-blurred pic of the drummer was no mean feat yet the audience barely scraped into double figures. Given the accolades garnered in this country following DZ Deathrays' previous UK jaunt you’d expect them to be better known so maybe it was a lack of promotion or airplay or whatever. [...]

da haben die hummings mal wieder ein glückliches händchen bewiesen und mit den dz deathrays ein sehr feines noiseperlchen über den teich ...
After my post on COOLRUNNINGS new 7-inch, someone at that label emailed me to let me know about their next release: DZ Deathrays. MP3: DZ Deathrays - Gebbie Street There will be a handful of you out there who will hate DZ Deathrays for trying to sound like Death from Above 1979. Decent point. However, [...]
I love tracks that last less than 2 minutes. Usually they are full with energy and so is this one. It comes from the Australian band DZ Deathrays, it is called "Rad Solar" and sounds like Death from Above 1979. And video perfectly matches the track. Here is another track from them called "Gebbie St", [...]

New video from The Death Set's 'Michael Poiccard', a record I've gushed over before . One of the stand-out tracks of the record getting the videographic treatment, and thoroughly discomposing my stomach in the process. What's worse is the girl at the end is so damn hot, but I feel too ill in my tummy to get aroused. Confusing :*( In other news, Brisbane band DZ Deathrays are in the process of blowing the fuck up. Word has it the Death Set will be doing a blow-for-blow cover of [...]

Finding great music is generally good enough. Realising it’s local? (Or local enough compared to the other side of the world) Even better. Well that’s the exact feeling I got when I heard the latest EP from DZ DEATHRAYS’ (formally DZ: name changed due to dubstep becoming a global phenomena and UK dubstep DJ titled ‘DZ’ becoming massive = confusion) Brutal Tapes . For those of you that don’t know, DZ DEATHRAYS (always spelled in capitals) describe themselves as a thrash-pop band hailing from Brisbane. The DFA 1979 inspired two piece produce some catchy and [...]
