Loving this new jam by Eli Mardock . Represing the latest installment of Paper Garden Record's Lovely Hearts Club (44), As the former frontman of Eagle Seagull, he has now embarked on a solo career, set to release his debut LP this summer. Working with producer Justin Gerrish, who has worked with the likes of Vampire Weekend and The Strokes, big things should be expected. 1st single, "Everything Happens For The First Time" feels like a coming out party for the singer, as he in reinventing himself in the most joyous way, in these modern times. This is peppy fun, [...]

Time and good karma have a funny way of repeating themselves sometimes and coming full circle. Here and now is one of those times, as we tell you the tale of Paper Garden Records' first ever release and the Lovely Hearts Club's newest addition - former Eagle Seagull front-man, Eli Mardock . Eagle Seagull was the inspiration and jumping off point behind Paper Garden Records ' entire existence back in 2005. The town of Lincoln, Nebraska brought the two together, and from there both parties grew into their early [...]
The effects of nostalgia can be staggering. Touching, smelling, and (especially) listening to something sparking a nostalgic feeling can trigger a warm glow inside the pit of your stomach and turn your eyeballs into projectors of fond memories evaporating across your synapses as fast as they appeared. That feeling just happened to me this morning when five years of nostalgia in the musical making came soaring back via Eli Mardock . Mardock used to be the frontman of a band called Eagle Seagull , one of the first IGIF favorites found by Connor [...]

Conduits will release their self-titled debut album on March 30th through Team Love. The Omaha sextet formed in 2009, and features members of The Good Life, Eagle Seagull, Son Ambulance, Neva Dinova, Cursive, and The Golden Age. Hear a cut from their debut below. MP3: Conduits - "Top of the Hill" Within the ethereal dreaminess and sonic waves of shoegaze, "Top of the Hill" both relaxes and swallows you whole. It weaves harmony out of chaos and holds everything together with the type [...]

Former Eagle Seagull -frontman Eli Mardock's debut solo album is one of my most anticipated albums in 2012. I was a big fan of Eagle Seagull's self-titled album from 2005, which earned the band plenty of buzz as well as comparisons to their indie-rock contemporaries Arcade Fire & Wolf Parade. Some recordings from their follow-up album, The Year of The How-To Book hit the web in 2007, and sounded extremely promising, but the album suffered delay after delay and wasn't made available until years later when the band quietly released a [...]

Photography by me ... Hello & happy Labour Day to all you states-side folks! We may have Monday off from work but that don't mean we can't get the music a-pumpin'!!! But first, do you see that cover above this paragraph? Not only does it work as a bad ass cover for today's mixtape, BUT.... It's also a gentle reminder that you have until FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 17TH to get your fan-sign photos in for a chance to win $30 cash moneys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [...]

on that cruel knife that is your beauty ♫ Eagle Seagull - The Boy With a Serpent In His Heart Eagle Seagull are an odd band. Not only does their name reference two very different birds, but their sound is equally diverse. I can definitely hear the Eagle in the the dramatic tension of their guitar and piano drivin jams ("The Boy..." above) and the punchy swagger that permeates their whole sound. But the mellower Seagull is also there in the more melancholy moments of basking in [...]

…and has brought the Seagull as well. The Year Of The How-To Book , the second full-length album by Nebraska's own Eagle Seagull , has finally been released this March. Back in early 2008, new songs have been popping up on Last.FM, but it took two more years before the follow-up to 20062s self-titled debut was released into the wild. Having created quite a buzz in the blogosphere and amongst critics as well over the past few weeks/months, Eagle Seagull really do live up [...]

one of us will make a game out of that which makes a game of us ♫ Eagle Seagull - You're the Reason Why I'm Afraid to Die Eagle Seagull are a Nebraska quintet who drifted through my iTunes a couple years ago and so when I caught another track of theirs I was curious to hear more of their sound. Thank goodness for curiosity, right? It's been a while since I heard a good strings-n-guitars group and these guys are nailing it, and with pretty great vocals and harmonies to boot! [...]

Illustration by Mike Well, I said I'd try to get my Crane Buddy's mixtape up if I had the time to conclude our quite epic MIXTAPES WEEK and, well, here we are!!! I'll try to be as coherent as possible as 1) after riding a beautiful 101 mile at the 38th Woodstock Budget Tour bike ride and 2) Paris-Roubaix is on in French in the bottom corner of my screen, I'd [...]

THE COUNTDOWN CONTINUES!!!!!! 3 TINY LITTLE DAYS TO GO UNTIL… Bike's getting a tune-up, new tires on her, the maps are printed with direction notes, ready to photocopy, photocopy, photocopy! I must apologize for the amount of time I spent transcribing this interview, but this found itself to be one of the most difficult transcriptions I have ever done and I contemplated not bothering. However, Little Brazil is a fantastic band and there were some really great answers provided in this interview that I couldn't allow it to just get buried. At this point, I'm sure you're wondering what happened. Little Brazil 's guitarist Greg Edds and I left the venue in search of a quiet spot to conduct [...]

Photography by Tsuru TSURUFOTO now on ETSY! Well, it's Wednesday and our "Dirty" Photo Contest is over! Cameras down! Heeeenry, I'm looking at you, I said CAMERAS DOWN! There, that's better. I gotta say, you guys really came through! We had a lot of great entries, I've got some great photobug readers, it was very hard to figure out who the winner should be.... Also, if you read the title [...]

Putting out an album is like having a baby. So for Omaha indie rockers, Little Brazil , it simply makes sense that when you put out an album called Son , that you treat your CD release show as if it were a baby shower. Little Brazil transformed the dark bar that was hosting their concert into a party complete with balloons and a blow up stork. They handed out confetti poppers to the audience to use when their set started. Though the new album deals with some heavy and dark issues like separation and suicide, the atmosphere [...]

Inspired by the whole U2-ripping-off-our-album-cover controversy (if you haven't already heard, read about it here ), I've decided to make a mix featuring album covers that have striking, and seemingly accidental, similarities to one another. It's like that movie where the Olsen twins run into each other at summer camp and discover they are "identical strangers". Except none of these albums feature the talents of Steve Guttenburg and Kirstie Alley, which is disappointing to say the least. So here you are. Enjoy! MP3 Explosions in [...]
The song I have selected for the inaugural Friday Round-Up is a catchy little number called "Your Beauty is a Knife I Turn On My Throat" by Eagle Seagull off their self-titled album. This song has an upbeat Bowie resonance, the piano progression is classy as hell and the lyrics ...

So, I namechecked a Pioneer Valley 90's indie rock band the other day, thinking I should do a follow up post. You know what? There is surprisingly little info about Skinner Pilot on ye ole internets. I do know that Skinner Pilot featured Elizabeth Sharp and that she is now Ill Ease . Plus, she was an original member of New Radiant Storm King , and she helped name that band after a brand of radiator. Anyway, I friggin' love this track, and you will too. Without any further ado, Skinner Pilot [...]
by schufly I wanna throw a quick plug to the crew over at mp3hugger . They recently released their second compilation in support of some talented and lesser known indie artists. The album features tracks by Montag, Ned Collette, Venice Is Sinking, and seven other great bands. The digital release sells for €4.50 and is titled IndieCater Volume 2 . Profits go to the bands so check it out. Here's a track off the mix. THERE ARE BIRDS BY THE RUBY SUNS:
Next to the Fleet Foxes ' debut, my favourite summer album was from This Is Ivy League . Now there's a new remix from the French Horn Rebellion ; they have turned London Bridges into a quite appealing dance track. Check it out and let me know what you think! http://www.myspace.com/thisisi vyleague http://www.myspace.com/frenchh ornrebellion [...]
