MUSIC NEWS - Vocalist, musician and songwriter PAUL CARRACK is back and ready for his re-introduction to the music world . Most listeners already know him, and not only by his solo work (2003's " It Ain't Over "), but by his many hits with the band Ace , Mike & The Mechanics and Squeeze . This time, it's I KNOW THAT NAME , the new album (full track list below) out on May 5th in the USA via 429 Records (if you can't wait, pick [...]

If you have read this blog for any amount of time, you know I have not hidden my affection for talented singer, songwriter and guitarist, Juliana Hatfield. Her album, Become What You Are , remains one of my favorites and, in my opinion, was one of the best albums of the 90s. She recently took part in the Bruce Springsteen's "Hangin' Out On E Street" project with an excellent cover of "Cover Me" and she also just put out a new CD, How To Walk Away. [...]

Well, he finally did it! Chris DeSalvo's worked up enough angst, rage, and anxiety for an entire column/editorial! In an effort to fully round out our staff, we've decided to give the ol' Italian Chicagoan a chance to let loose. So, expect a weekly or bi-monthly column (we'll see how it goes, first) from him. His first article is about reunions. Actually, it's about Billy Corgan. No, it's more than that. Eh, just read for yourself, why don't you? -Michael Roffman, Editor-in-Chief By now, every music news outlet [...]
You'll have heard The Eagles' Life In The Fast Lane, of course. Did you manage to listen to it without fainting clean away? After 40-odd years, Birmingham radio station Eagle 106.9 FM has started to remove an offensive bit from the song: We’ve been up and down this highway/ haven’t seen a goddamn thing. Eagle 106.9 program manager Mike Schoenherr, a.k.a. Hurricane Shane, replaced “god” with a snippet of lyric-less music from elsewhere in the song. This is, in case you hadn't guessed, Birmingham in Alabama, not in the West [...]
In 1980, Detroit's Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band had established themselves as one of the premier rock acts in the country. The group was coming off of consecutive Top Ten albums with Night Moves and Stranger In Town and the two records had produced a half dozen Top 40 hits including a pair of Top Ten singles. So, the stage was set for 1980's Against The Wind album to be Seger's most successful release, yet, and the set lived up to the expectations. In fact, Against The Wind [...]

The Birmingham Weekly reports that local classic rock station Eagle 106.9 , with no prodding from the FCC or corporate higher-ups, censors the Eagles ' "Life In The Fast Lane" to remove the "god" from the line "We've been up and down this highway / haven't seen a goddamn thing." I don't know if it's such a big deal, or whether the listeners would even notice, but the Weekly has interviewed former Eagle Don Felder (who's sympathetic, and who points out that the paper actually brought this matter to his attention) and [...]

There are a lot of famous anecdotes about our 36th president, and a strange number of them involve the bathroom. In one, a female reporter is trying to get Johnson to answer some questions, and Johnson agrees on the condition that she hold his pecker while he pee; in another, he goes to relieve himself in the middle of a meeting and has the other person follow him, continuing to talk whilst emptying his bowels. So when Wall Street Journal scribe Ethan Smith starts off a profile of artist manager [...]

Influences such as Blondie , Garbage and The Chemical Brothers have greatly developed the rock-electric sensation that is Taxi Doll . With a name that come from the bobbleheads that were seen when riding in a taxi, Taxi Doll's dance music can be heard in clubs all over and have even been featured on soundtracks to both video games and movies. This February, Taxi Doll will be releasing their new album Here and Now . The album Here And [...]

Sometimes, CD reviews seem trite. Also, sometimes, I simply find myself getting pretty bored with the act of writing them. Therefore, I have decided just for fun to curb the rules and write an open letter to the album's creator rather than simply state what I would have done differently and which songs tickled my fancy. That pen pal style prose can be found here: Welcome back Reel Big Fish . It's been a while. I've missed you! What has it been, like four years now? Oh yeah, that's right, you did release an [...]

The countdown to the Ticketmaster/ Live Nation game of Super Concert Monopoly merger announcement is still on, and over at Hitsville, Bill Wyman notes that the Wall Street Journal story on the merger has excised the paragraph claiming that Bono, Don Henley , and Jay-Z would be making statements supporting this unholy matrimony that we noted last night . (It's still in the print edition, though.) So... who complained? [ Hitsville / Previously ]

Filed under: News , Exclusive Spinner.com : Eagles songwriter Jack Tempchin may hold the rare distinction of being able to write a song over the telephone based on someone else's dream. Another song from the amazing Regina Spektor tonight, who I am still completely smitten with by the way. The anti-folk/indie artist released Carbon Monoxide as the first single from her third album Soviet Kitsch . Soviet Kitsch, released in 2004, was Spektor's first major-album release. I was sucked into this song right from the get go with an introduction that reminded me of a mix between Elton John 's Tiny Dancer and the Eagles ' Pretty Maids All in a Row , two favorites of mine. Plus it didn't hurt that [...]
