Some bands just don't do conformity, in the majority of cases this can prove to be a royal pain in the arse. The exception to the rule in my case is noisy as fuck three piece PAWS . As you've seen from my recent posts, I have been asking bands to choose their album of the year. So what do PAWS do, that's right they come back with their favourite 7" of the year. So what's a boy to do, other than just go with it, fuck it, it's PAWS and I love this band. Anyway here's [...]

As a part of our year-end 2k11 coverage , I just wanted to remind everyone of the awesome bands that I've written about this year. These are all the Introducing pieces that I did throughout 2k11 about amazing new up-and-comers etc, in descending order: introducing: mr elevator & the brain hotel introducing: toto & the bad eggs (feat jerry tropicano, brown brogues & sex beet members) introducing: hypocrite in a hippy crypt introducing: [...]

The Blogophilia series is backlogged for the first time in awhile! Hopefully, we can catch up here in a few weeks. This is the first new Blogophilia in over a month, featuring promotional mp3s from early July through mid-August that were hosted on The Dadada and other blogs. As always, this is a gapless mix. Two of our favorite bands, who released a brilliant split 73 via Italian Beach Babes earlier this month, are playing together on the 24th of November . Leeds' finest Eagulls and London's Mazes will join forces to destroy the 100 Club in London later this November, and we have 10 pairs of tickets to give away for the show. All you need to do is comment here (or tweet , or [...]

Fat Cat friends Mazes and my perennial 2011 favorites, Eagulls , have finally released this much anticipated split 73 via Mazes-off-shoot Italian Beach Babes . Obviously you get the intricate artwork I believe to be a product of George Mitchell's pen, and you get duelling Wipers covers with Eagulls tackling Mystery and Mazes take on Messenger , and then you get a original cut from each. I've waxed poetic about both the Eagulls jams [...]

This is called the Fullcast for no better reason than that I tried to fit far too many songs onto the playlist. I've have used half the Palmist Records stable if possible, but eventually decided to settle for one single track. There's always next week. I didn't even make room for a song from the new Clap Your Hands Say Yeah record, although to be fair I haven't really listened to that enough to really know what I think about it, so maybe that would have been hasty. If anything this reminded me of the really [...]

Mazes and Eagulls are getting set to release a split 7'' through Italian Beach Babes Records. The release will feature two tracks from each band and will be out on limited edition vinyl and via iTunes on October 24. Check out a couple of tracks from the release in the shape of Mazes' 'Farewell Summer' and Eagulls' 'Possessed' below.
One of the many, many problems with running a blog based around new music is the propensity to... well... miss a few of the bright new upstarts. ICEAGE have been on everyone's radar for a while now - even more so given they've got their debut coming out over here as abeano's inaugural release - but it's been difficult to find a reason to post about them on these pages given the masses and masses of words written elsewhere. Now, however, they're coming to Manchester in what promises to be one of the most brutal shows of the year. Teaming [...]

Do you have any pent-up aggression? Do you need an outlet? Eagulls might be the choice for you. This punk-inspired quintet from Leeds will inspire genuine adrenaline boosts. Perfect stuff if you like to hit the heavy bag or need something to get you through that last set of 15. We've decided to feature Possessed and Terms & Conditions today, but you can hear more from Eagulls on SoundCloud or buy their 7 inch with b-sides here . Check out: [...]

Saturday at Tramlines comes with a whole load more excitement. The main stage today features charting stars as well as up and coming artists , but I'm more focused on what's effectively the second stage in the Nando's-sponsored New Music Stage. The first band I see, however, really put a dampener on the scorching weather. Eagulls are offensive on the eyes and ears today with a Liam Gallagher meets Sid Vicious 20-something man yelling at people in the form of what I suppose he'll call lyrics. The crowd [...]

Eagulls have unveiled a new track through the heavyweights of the NME. The track is called 'Possessed' and pretty much sounds like everything else they've ever released, which is by no means a bad thing. In fact, it's a good thing. Reports suggest that the chorus plays out in the minds of zombie bitten victims the moment they turn to the darkside. "I'm PO-SESSED, I'm PO-SESSED".

It's been a while since I blabbed about my favorite Leeds band, Eagulls , who have been making a bit of a name for themselves since their debut 73, Council Flat Blues , earlier in February. ' Possessed ' came out of nowhere and I could not be happier in any way. It is, of course, loud as balls and shows how magically incredible the bands former hardcore roots translate into something much more, um, listenable with its pestiferous melodies, intimidating vocals and touches of grunge. I'm seriously down for [...]
Spending a full day doing nothing leaves the mind free to wander (or wonder?). Such wandering led me to the realisation that, aside from an ill-advised stint at Loughborough University, I have yet to live outside of Yorkshire and a future move to Leeds does nothing to extend my borders. Fleeting panic was allayed when I discovered that I don't need to move from my beloved Yorkshire when the most promising musicians and bands from around the UK are quite happy to move to me. Eagulls are such a band! Eagulls [...]

Regardless of the innumerable inner city pseudo-festivals that've continually cropped up over recent history, the Shoreditch-based Stag & Dagger indubitably has something quite special about it, primarily due to its bookers' ability to foresee musical trends and tendencies with unnerving accuracy. Last time we meandered on over Eastwards way back when (or 2009) we caught the likes of the damn good (The xx, The Twilight Sad, Evan Dando), the damn dodgy (Jack Peñate, The Temper Trap) and damn dubstep (Rusko) . With a comparatively streamlined line up , this year's bash looks equally essential and although [...]
The Camden Crawl 2011 Festival runs in venues all over London during the Bank Holiday weekend of April 30th - May 1st. Get your Early Bird, Weekend and VIP tickets through See Tickets. Ah, Eagulls. One of my first band crushes of 2011. I loved this band immediately. From the first seconds of every single [...]

Apparently you people like music and stuff, right - that's why you're here? Well this week I like gardening. Yes, as if to demonstrate that I am taking all these accusations of being too old and too middle-class extremely seriously, this week I am far more excited about the back garden that I am about music, sorry. We've had a lot of rain this spring, so inevitably when we get a sunny week, as we did last week, everything blooms. This, I have to confess, as someone relatively new to gardening, is incredibly exciting. Any teenagers [...]
Just got some excellent news regarding London's Camden Crawl 2011 festival lineup. The list of bands is now finalized and the amazing OFWGKTA who put on the best show I saw at SXSW, will be coming over from LA (just like me!) to stun London once again with their swag. In addition to those, they've [...]
What with this year's Camden Crawl now a mere month away and daydreams progressively recurring to all things festivals, another summer of lists awaits. In anticipation of this year's NW1-based bank holiday slog, we've gone and compiled our first checklist of many, featuring a handful of acts that you really ought to be sweating it out to come Saturday April 30th and Sunday May 1st. Gracing anywhere and everywhere from the infernal Underworld to the substantially more divine Roundhouse Dots & Dashes' Camden Crawl 2011 recommendations are thus. Big Deal [...]
