Hello again from Brighton. Ian and I are down at the Great Escape again this year, and will be joined later in the week by Mrs. Toad. I like The Great Escape. Brighton is an awesome place to be, which is important if you're going to try and lure Mrs. Toad to a music festival. In some ways I prefer it to SXSW, because they don't really focus on big-name headliners here, meaning that it really is all about new music and up and coming bands. At least, that makes it more fun for me personally, [...]
In a week's time, I will have traveled thousands of miles to ... Read the full article at http://www.prefixmag.com/featu res/music-festival/preview-the -great-escape-2013/73619/

You know for a long time this was the way music used to be. Straight-ahead, not particularly clever in the lyric department, with giant chords and a vocalist who threatened to shred his vocal chords because he wanted to give it everything. The kind of smouldering intensity that followed in the wake of all those endless movements in the first half of the 1990’s. It could be post-grunge, skewed shoegaze or just plain old punk rock. No matter because it is just great to hear a band with a fire in their belly, letting youthful exuberance work its magic [...]

Eagulls released their self-titled EP last year via Sexbeat. Check out the music video for "Moulting" below from Leeds punk rockers Eagulls. They made some noise (literally) and then made some more noise (via the music presses) last year with this hot, hot, hot little five-song rager here. The EP is also getting another pressing via Canadian punk label Deranged Records, which means it will finally be available in the US and Canada, and you can buy that right here . The video features a whole lot of footage from the band's (already pretty legendary) European live [...]

Yes, mosherama! This podcast draws its name, slightly sadly, not from the fact that I have been in one insane moshpit after another this week, which might have been quite cool, but from the rather more mundane circumstance that I have simply been to quite a lot of gigs. I did mosh, in a sense. In the fat, sad old man sense that I stood sort of in the middle and nodded my head vaguely in time to the music. I know, I know, who will save society from such excess? This must be a job for Carol [...]

The problem with having a young lady in your life who has foresworn the devil drink for a couple of months is that when she breaks this habit for an evening and gets utterly massacred on half a bottle of wine, you get the inordinate pleasure of having all last night's conversations for a second time, in the morning, once she's sobered up. So yes, this morning has been a little like Total Recall for me. What's that darling? Josie Long was really good, and made you feel ashamed of your political apathy? What, again? Since last night? [...]
Here's the first video of Leeds' progressive punk kidz Eagulls . " Moulting " should be definitely a song on your soundtrack to your summer revolution. It's taken from their new five track EP, available on a transparent green 123 via Sexbeat . Eagulls - Facebook
Following the release of their new self-titled EP last week on SEXBEAT, Eagulls have released a new video for one of the EPs tracks, 'Moulting'.

Just when I had given up hope of the reality that Brighton/London's Sauna Youth would release a full length LP, FAUX DISCX and Gringo Records saved the day by announcing the release of Sauna Youth's debut LP, Dreamlands . The aptly described 'irregular punk' purveyors go hard on first cut, PSI girls , which relies on the conflicting harmony of the harsh, relentless guitars informed by their hardcore backgrounds and the lighter female backing "lalalala's", and then of [...]

If I'm honest, there's been many times where I get really into a few tracks and as the band shambles onward, I get progressively less interested in the direction they're moving. This scenario is vastly more common than a band who I get increasingly obsessed with as they start stacking up releases. Eagulls are the exception to the rule, the special, visceral band are one of the best bourgeoning band in the UK. In anticipation of their SexBeat EP , Noisey [...]

>> Although Clicky HQ typically focuses on matters guitar and pop -- whatever that means these days -- we also enjoy the kaleidoscopic world of electronic music, and we're endeavoring to re-engage with it editorially after some time away. We've warmly received the new full-length from Augsburg, Germany-based ambient electronic artist Markus Mehr . Out July 17th on Hidden Shoal Recordings, On is Mr. Mehr's third record working under his own name; it is filled with immaculately constructed instrumentals, appointed with imaginative instrumentation and illuminating samples, that are as soothing as they are transporting. While much non-"pop" [...]

So, I know what you're all thinking (well, those of you that give a shit anyway). Yes, that's right, last week, for the first time in about three years, I missed a weekly edition of this podcast. I can whinge about excuses all I like, but you don't really care do you? Suffice to say that I genuinely was too busy. Or, I suppose, too hungover. Because there was a window - one, tiny, podcast-recording-shaped window of time - where I could actually have got the damn thing done, in the middle of the afternoon in [...]

I am going to try not to let my bias towards Eagulls feature too prominently, but I have fucking loved this band from the first second I heard them. Their new EP, a five track 123 on transparent green vinyl courtesy of Sexbeat , will be out on 16th July, and I really wish it was sooner. Everyone has fallen head over feet noting the way Eagulls seamlessly intertwine their hardcore roots with their, um, indie sound, but there is something to the ease in which they combine the two that is part [...]

The Eagulls  announced themselves to MM with Council Flat Blues, showcasing their own brand of melodic hardcore and full on punk rock and it found much favour with us. Following a split single with Mazes they are back with a five track EP released on 16th July via Sexbeat Records . Coffin is the lead track and while it doesn't beat your brains into a bloody mush with a meat tenderiser in the way Council Flat Blues did, it is another excellent punk rock anthem in its own right, [...]

Some bands just don't do conformity, in the majority of cases this can prove to be a royal pain in the arse. The exception to the rule in my case is noisy as fuck three piece PAWS . As you've seen from my recent posts, I have been asking bands to choose their album of the year. So what do PAWS do, that's right they come back with their favourite 7" of the year. So what's a boy to do, other than just go with it, fuck it, it's PAWS and I love this band. Anyway here's [...]

As a part of our year-end 2k11 coverage , I just wanted to remind everyone of the awesome bands that I've written about this year.
