It's only once in a while that you get that ache when you listen to an album, that feeling where you want to cry because it's so good, to run out into the street tears streaming, bearing it above your head and proclaiming its name. I know, I know - high praise. But great music [...]

One new album I've been enjoying came out last month from Eamon McGrath and is titled, Young Canadians . The record was recorded at Vancouver's JC/DC Studios with John Collins (New Pornographers) and Dave Carswell (Destroyer). All in all, Young Canadians brings honest and durable songwriting portioned with rustic folkiness and otherwise noisier abodes to keep the listener well aware. Take in the song below for first hand insight. listen to "Great Lakes" from Young Canadians http://whitewhale.ca [...]

Eamon McGrath Young Canadians White Whale Records [2012] Fire Note Says: Eamon McGrath's third record Young Canadians is a rousing and solid expansion of his country-punk spirit that represents his best yet! Album Review: "My life could be a broken record by Canada's Ramones" and "Rock and roll won't ever be the same" are two disclaiming confession statements by Eamon McGrath on his excellent third [...]

i just googled "random," and this dog photo was like the 6th thing. so, i went with it. its funny, times are a changing in the music blog world. a year or so ago, people were offering up songs with pretty much every email. nowadays, its just news and tour dates. honestly, if youre in a band, and more or less a local one at that, do yourself a favor and include a song to share. bloggers are so much more willing to report on you if they can actually hear what you sound like. its not rocket science. anyway, [...]

Today's song is "Instrument of My Release" by Eamon McGrath . The 23-year-old singer has a culmination of genres. You could call him a folk singer, but he has a diverse musical styles ranging from bombastic, punk-inspired barnburners to quiet, intimate country music best fit for a Western saloon. He has accomplished a lot for someone of such a young age with two dozen albums worth of material, countless Canadian, UK, and European tours, and a stint in Daniel Johnston's backing band. This song is off his full-length Young Canadians which came out earlier this month. [...]
Young Canadians is simply a staggering statement from start to finish. Robert Pollard should be shaking in his shoes. There's a Toronto-by-way-of-Edmonton singer/songwriter named Eamon McGrath who's doing a pretty good job of catching up to the dozens and dozens of releases the Guided by Voices frontman has put out by himself or with his band since the '80s. McGrath's Wikipedia page lists no less than 27 albums released independently since 2006, along with four EPs. And while McGrath sounds nothing like Guided by Voices, not...
Canada has been killing it lately, guys, so hard and so fast that I haven't been able to keep up. Here are no fewer than seven awesome videos that have fallen like manna from the north in the past month or so. PS I Love You - "Don't Go" (see above) PS I Love You recently performed [...]

How a 20-something from Edmonton, AB ever ended up with such a beautifully ragged, world weary voice as Eamon McGrath 's is beyond me, but whatever hard living, long partying, or pain suffering this lad has done in his short time is well worth it. This week saw the release of McGrath's latest album, Young Canadians , marking well over 20 records released by him since 2006. It's out on White Whale Records , home to McGrath's touring pals and one-time backing band The Mohawk Lodge. To celebrate its release, McGrath put out [...]

This was supposed to be a productive week, those hours after work. But I ended up doing what any solid music nerd would: procrastinate by going through my records and singles, rediscovering old favorites and discovering new treasures hidden within my collection. We listened to The Smiths on repeat for a few days. I dug out an old single by The Rondelles. I got Andi into Crystal Stilts. And despite all this recounting of the past, of all the listening to albums already in my collection, I [...]

Toronto-based singer-songwriter Eamon McGrath is set to release his new album Young Canadians on April 10 via White Whale Records. We've already seen the video for the single "Great Lakes," and now you can get in on the album early, as it's streaming in full below. Young Canadians marks the follow-up to 2010's Peace Maker, and as the title indicates, it's a little piece of patriotism. Inspired by events like Terry Fox's death and Sidney Crosby's gold medal goal, the album draws from these "collective experiences." Read more »

Another memorial day happened on Day 4 of Ottawa Bluesfest 2011. Besides the weather and missing out the Black Keys. There were other great acts that I saw on July 8th were: Eamon McGrath Cage The Elephant Blue King Brown Rise Against Cavaliers Hey Rosetta! [...]
Spending time with a guy like Eamon McGrath is a bit of a mindfuck. This kid is only 22, but has put out that many records already. He has toured the coutnry countless times and he has the colorful party-binge stories you would expect from a 50-year-old roadie going thru AA's 12-Steps. Eamon's record Peacemaker is his attempt to make amends for his past mistakes and he was amazingly candid about the life of an up-and-coming Candian indie singer songwriter during our chat. [...]
Tracking down Ryder (centre below) from Mohawk Lodge is no easy task. The guy is constantly touring, recording, or doing work for his label White Whale Records . The first time I caught him, he was in the bathroom. (And no he was not taking a dump, he was recording in there.) The second time, he was about to get on stage in Montreal. Third time is always a charm. This time, I caught him on his bike, heading to meet [...]

Here is part 4 of who to see at NXNE . This time on Saturday June 18, 2011. There is a lot of things to see during the daytime and nighttime. Usually on the Saturday I would go down to the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern for CBC Radio 32s show. But this year I might have to break my tradition. I am setting my eyes on staying at this venue which is the Great Hall. Playing there are: 9pm - Duzheknew [...]

Rain Over St. Ambrose is a band formed by East Coast artist Cory LeBlanc. His father passed away a week after telling Cory that he'd rather see him be the frontman of a band, rather than the drummer. So, this once drummer for artists Jon McKiel and Ruby Jean & The Thoughtful Bees has taken his fathers advice and turned in his sticks for a guitar; the result being a 3 song, self-titled EP out on April 19th. Full of crunchy guitars, honest lyrics and memorable hooks, Rain Over St. Ambrose make my ears [...]

Happy Heart Day everyone. Here are some tracks to show the love. And all of these guys will be on the interview show real soon. Arowbe & Rich Kidd "Coolest Girl" Arowbe (Times Neue Roman) and Rich Kidd have collaborated on a special track for Valentine's Day. "Coolest Girl" reminisces on an unrequited crush for the coolest girl in school. Eamon McGrath "Wrecking Ball" This kid is just plain cool. Boats "TV Scientist" A cool band [...]
