Ear Pwr's self-titled second album definitely shows just how much the band has matured from the more twee and goofy ramblings of their debut effort

Cleveland's Cloud Nothings , a guided tour of the angst-ridden musical gems by 19-year-old Dylan Baldi, have been busy accumulating great press for their ... er, his? .... fuzzy, garage-y noise pop. Cloud Nothing's self-titled debut album was released earlier this year on Carpark Records and, having released a flurry of work the last couple of years, it was perhaps time for a sweet lil' remix like this one of the song "Understand At All" done by North Carolina labelmates EAR PWR .
During the last decade, Asheville, North Carolina has grown into one of the most artist-friendly cities in the US. With a diverse population and an eclectic arts movement, the city turns out a little bit for everybody, including indie-pop duo EAR PWR . Comprised of Devin Booze and Sarah Reynolds, EAR PWR weaves Booze's custom-made synths with Reynolds emotive melodies to create intricate electronic compositions. Following the release of 20092s Super Animal Brothers III, the duo relocated to North Carolina's mountainous west to hone in on what truly makes them tick: love for nature, baroque and modern composition, southern [...]

Recommended Show: THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2010 EAR PWR @ CAKE SHOP 152 Ludlow St New York, NY 10002 $TBA, 7PM At this point it feels like the bands listed for these shows are the same over and over again. It's not just the unofficial shows this year that wear these bands thin. We haven't done a count this year of who is playing the most official shows, but there's one band (who is only playing one show that we know of) that we wouldn't mind seeing multiple times (and [...]

At least CMJ Thursday is pretty straight-forward during the day. It's the I Guess I'm Floating (one of my very favorite blogs) Pianos day party. It's pretty much wall-to-wall worthwhile bands including Baths, Beach Fossils, Oberhofer, Teen Daze, Young Man, Braids, and Gobble Gobble. The nighttime gets much more complicated. Of course, part of this is that by the third day of CMJ, whatever showcase you go to probably has at least one band you've already seen, and it's harder to skip around from showcase to showcase in NYC than it is in the nicely walkable Austin, Texas. [...]

This past weekend was the first club crawl-styled Hopscotch Music Festival in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. Three days, around 130 bands, 10 venues, and one large outdoor stage, we were impressed. Hopscotch organizers Greg Lowenhagen and Grayson Currin did a fantastic job planning this festival and while we're sure they had their share of freak-outs over the weekend, as attendees, it seemed to run pretty smoothly and we had a blast. Thursday we checked into the Sheraton downtown (which was great and was in walking distance to everything) [...]

Simply taking a look at the Whartscape 2010 lineup on Wham City's homepage feels like a sensory overload. Four straight days of music, this weekend, from July 22 to July 25. Like most music and art festivals, Thursday serves as a kickoff day, and the stream of live music only runs for a portion of the day, from 4 pm until midnight, at the Charles Theatre. But for the next three days of the festival, the music starts at noon at the Current Space and runs well past midnight throughout the H&H Building. [...]
Deathbomb Arc has given us some great releases from the likes of Foot Village , Captain Ahab , Kevin Shields , and many more. For the past few years, they've done a tape club, putting out a year's worth of cassettes for only $60. However, the tape club was recently retired, but now it seems like it's going to be replaced with a digital singles club. The price is being lowered to $10, and the frequency of release will be incredible. One artist each week for 52 weeks from September 2010 until September 2011. The lineup of [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours Baltimore continues to churn out synth-heavy pop music with Ear Pwr , a dance-happy duo made of Devin Booze and Sarah Reynolds. Booze and Reynolds' friendship started in the summer of 2005 when they met nearly every afternoon for two-person dance parties. Their friendship blossomed into a musical collaboration. We spoke to Ear Pwr about how the band formed, where the unique band name came from and what we can find in their festival survival kit. Describe [...]

truman peyote - "new wife, new life" (download) With a name like Truman Peyote , you're sure to expect some heady, psychedelic shit. They don't disappoint. "New Wife, New Life" is from this Boston area band's formerly-CDR-only-soon-to-be-1 2inch-vinyl release Light-Lightning . On Light-Lightning , they provide you with some catchy, trippy, lo-fi jams, and will surely be a treat to have on vinyl when it's released. These guys are definitely a band to watch for 2010. Currently, they have upcoming shows with Neon Indian [...]
This year brought us a lot of good things... Britney Spears released a new song, "33, Lady Gaga brought us "The Fame Monster", and Rihanna gave us "Rated R". In addition, we can also look forward to Alicia Keys' newest album, "The Element Of Freedom". Musical genius aside, here are the album covers of the year that made us want to vomit. 1. Chris Brown - Graffiti [...]
