I was there, but all I remember is the warm sensation of bass cutting through my chest with the precision of a scalpel for the entire show. Leftfield's debut, Leftism , had been on my Discman for over a year, and my attraction to Neil Barnes and Paul Daley's post-everything sound which, like the handful of releases issued on [...]

Legendary UK electronic act Leftfield , who had disbanded in 2001, will release a live album, Tourism , on March 26. Known for classic tracks "Open Up," "Song of Life" and "Afrika Shox," the act reformed in 2010 with original vocalists Cheshire Cat, Earl 16 and Djum Djum and new singer Jess Mills and performed all over Europe. Tourism arrives after a successful tour of Australia in 2011. Tourism includes a DVD of the visuals used on stage. Designed by renowned design studio ne1co, the visuals make the album [...]

Is this a Double Daily 2%? Not quite but I would normally wait a day to post a reggae track since they are perfect for a chill feature. But, I couldn't wait any longer on this new video/track from Earl 16 called "Reggae Music" where he gives a good breakdown of the genre. The track is featured on his "Reggae Music" EP which we posted about a while. Earl 16 is keeping the "roots reggae" sound alive in 2011 and beyond. Enjoy. Click here to view the embedded video. Ayye rudeboy! Bust out that patois translator as we celebrate the genre that shaped the unmistakable feel of dubstep -- so go on, light up a spliff, and soak up the sounds of Jamaica infused with grimey, wobbly love. Reunions, reunions, reunions. A quick glance at the majority of European festivals happening this summer and you'd think we're still back at the tail end of the last century. Faith No More, Pixies, Orbital, Pavement, The Libertines, Soundgarden and tonight's heritage act Leftfield are all gracing stages this year. So how would this '90s dance act fare in 2010? For a start, we were on rocky ground before the gig when it was announced that only Neil Barnes from the original duo would be touring while Paul Daley decided to concentrate on getting his solo [...]

Syl Johnson's raw soul and funk has always been a deep favorite of mine. Somewhat always pushing outside of what the mainstream doing, Syl still managed to break into the charts several times, but never gaining the real recognition that he deserved, which he explored early on in a wave of introspection and churning wonder on Is It Becasue I'm Black?, which then became something of a self fulfilling prophecy. Throwback : Syl Johnson - Is It Because I'm Black (don lowed) -- Although this song certainly resonates with [...]
