EDM By Charlotte Gay EDM - the band formerly known as Early Day Miners - release their new album Night People on September 5th on Western Vinyl in the UK and Europe. As they geared up to release a record that has seen not just a name change, but also seemingly a change in approach to the way they write and record their music, the band answered a series of questions from us via email. For those [...]
The guys in EDM are completing the circle of life and returning to our local label Western Vinyl for their new release after being away for over 10 years. In that span after their debut, the band formerly known as Early Day Miners released 5 records for large indie label Secretly Canadian . Their return album to WV, Night People, will hit streets next week on July 5th and features 9 new songs from Dan Burton and company. Until then, we've been given the go ahead to post this new [...]

EDM (formerly Early Day Miners) have returned to Western Vinyl after an 11 year hiatus to release their new full-length album Night People this summer. With a husky drawl, singer Daniel Burton wails over fear, anxiety and relationships. On the latest single "StereoVideo" Burton sings "I hear voices on the stereo, I see faces on the video" unable to escape the incessant memories of a broken relationship. On the emotional "Temple Bar" Burton sings "It's a better life not running away, you're safe with me my word is true, I wouldn't mislead you" while a [...]

EDM [formerly called Early Day Miners] started as a musical-cooperative based in Bloomington, Indiana. The group formed when Daniel Burton and Rory Leitch (both of Ativin) began playing on front porches and basements with their mutual friend Joe Brumley. Early Day Miners incorporate a revolving cast of accompanying musicians (many of whom are friends) for both live shows and recordings. Their first CD Placer Found was released April 2000 on Western Vinyl. Now 11 years later the group has returned to Western Vinyl with the release of Night People . [...]

I'm not sure when it happened...but it did. At some point, Early Day Miners left the Secretly Canadian mellow atmospheric pop stable, listened to a bit too many Spoon records and changed their name to EDM. Now, signed to Western Vinyl, and sounding nothing like their previous selves, the band are preparing to release their new album, Night People. I have to admit that while the proposition of their new sound scared me to death...I actually found myself liking it. I suspect they're hoping you do as well. Just as the [...]
EDM - Stereo/Video Bloomington's Early Day Miners stripped down their sound on their latest album, Night People which was recently released through Western Vinyl . The band has shortened their moniker to simply EDM and released this very stripped down sound that is reminiscent to me of a knopfler/dire straits kind of thing. Very Much digging this.

Erano Early Day Miners , ora sono EDM . Usciranno per Western Vinyl con l'album " Night People ". Ed alcune cose sono cambiate. EDM - Stereo/Video

Bloomington's Early Day Miners are evolving back to the beginning. The band will release their latest album, Night People through Western Vinyl , the home of their very first album, Placer Found . The band has shortened their moniker to simply EDM going forward. MP3 : EDM - Stereo/Video Below is an as yet unreleased session with Early Day Miners from the early [...]

So this is it. My favorite full-length albums of the year. So many other blogs post their top songs of the year, but I guess I'm a bit more old-school (and probably older) than most of them. I prefer the album format rather then just ranking singles against one another. I posted Part I of this list yesterday, but there are so many good albums from 2009 that I had to leave off the list completely (unless I was going to make it an even 100). Maybe next year, right? Also, fuck all the [...]

On their sixth-full length, The Treatment , Indiana's Early Day Miners have somewhat changed directions without really changing at all. There are still the repetitive and atmospheric elements of the band's sound full intact, but there's much more melody here than I expected. Despite the bands new found focus on a poppier sound, Early Day Miners still manage to create sweeping shimmering songs that (before you know it) are pulling you deeper in as they did on records like Offshore . It's as if the band is channeling their inner New Order on [...]
Saturday night's lineup at Buster's had things flipped around a little bit, in my humble opinion. The highlight of my night was the first act which was Louisville's (formerly) very own Papa M . For those not aware of the significance or depth of Papa M's career, then allow me to lay it out real quick. Throughout the late 80s and early 90s the music scene in Louisville was one of the most progressive, important, and underrated scenes in recent music history. You might not be aware of how much of the music [...]

From the first short slide down the bass that begins "In the Fire," I was hooked. The track, which opens The Treatment , the latest release from Bloomington IN "slowcore" rockers Early Day Miners , is solid and an inspired choice to bat lead-off on the band's sixth full-length release. The confident pacing of the track belies maturity and experience, so when I went to do a little post-listening/pre-writing intel work, I wasn't surprised in the least to find that the band had been in operation since 1999. What did surprise me was that [...]
Early Day Miners call themselves a "musical cooperative." Their core members, Daniel Burton and Rory Leitch (both of Ativin), are based in Indiana and they've been playing together for years. They've just released their sixth indie pop album, "The Treatment," on the best American label that isn't American—Secretly Canadian. SC has become one of the most reliable indie labels out there, and once again they don't disappoint. Early Day Miners is pretty darn fun. So Slowly

Sorry for the short post, but things have been a little hectic in my life lately, what with taking 2 classes, working full-time, driving 80 miles a day between work and class, writing, running , writing more, running more, doing research for my grad school thesis, writing, reading , drinking a little , getting drunken calls from crazy girls in Detroit (don't ask), and... oh yeah, blogging . But here are some new songs that have caught my fancy lately, so check them out. I wish I had more time to detail them in detail, but [...]

Sorry, once again about the brief delay in posting. As usual, the Black Dog bit me real bad and I was down for the count. I would have blogged some about it but want to just stick to the music. So, back to the music and let's hope that Black Dog stays away for a long while... San Diego's Castanets are appropriately labeled in a sub-genre called "freak folk". Their music has roots in folk, country, and experimental rock. The center-piece of the band is singer/songwriter Raymond Raposa. On their latest and sixth release Texas Rose, The [...]

a selection of great tunes from new new records... there seems to be a ton of good bands floating around and interesting labels releasing their records. if i had a million dollars i'd have ordered all of them, but for now i'll make do with these. oh, and i think i found all of them via mbv music . thanks. ::: systems officer - shape shifter ::: early day miners - so slowly ::: the fresh & onlys - dude's got a [...]

'The Treatment' is the brand new record from Indiana band Early Day Miners. If you aren't familiar with EDM, you should get acquainted. The band's core three members are Daniel Burton, Rory Leitch, and Joseph Brumley, but are joined by an everchanging group of musicians both in the studio and on the road. The band's sound is rural in it's roots, but definitely hard to pigeonhole. With each record(this release is the band's sixth) the band has expanded it's sound, but without ever losing their vision. Here is one of my favorite tracks off of the new [...]
