Those of you who have been hanging around Striker Bill for a while now may remember that last March we introduced you to a band called Easter Island and reviewed their Better Things EP. You also might recall that back then we described the band by writing that " much like the Moai statues that occupy their geographic namesake, the band Easter Island is stately and monolithic without sounding cold and self-absorbed . " Fourteen months later, that description still holds true for the band from Georgia, who is preparing to release their debut [...]
We first tipped you to Athens, GA's Easter Island in January of last year with the release of their excellent track "Proud" and March EP Better Things . Now with a new rhythm section in place, the band's new debut full-length Frightened , arriving July 3, picks up where "Proud" left off, once again surrounding the airy tenor vocals of brothers Ethan and Asher Payne with the ringing guitar lines, richly textured art-pop dynamics and sweeping melodies normally found across the Atlantic and band's like Keane, Snow Patrol and Coldplay. [...]
Easter Island is no longer just for vacationing Catholics. The indie-rock band has just released its latest single, "Hash," an anthemic song made of speeding guitars and roaring drums. Each fast-paced verse builds to a quieter chorus, one that's equally rousing and goosebump-inducing. The lyrical tension, at times hushed but always palpable, of the song [...]

" Pedro the Lion meets Stars without a female vocalist." Zo klinkt de band Easter Island uit Athens, Georgia volgens de leden zelf. Oftewel: heerlijke, dromerige, shoegazy pop. It's so cool that volumes one and two of the Best Songs of 2011 mixtape series have been such a huge hit - literally tens of thousands of page views in just a few weeks. Today's mixtape marks the third volume of the top 2011 songs series. If you didn't have a chance yet, it's [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Tear Jerks // "Easter Island" I was sent this track a few days ago. It's by a youthful Scottish band called Tear Jerks . When I inquired for more info on the project the guys told me only two things really. Firstly their forthcoming EP Easter Island is set to drop on the world on September 15th (on which label, I have no clue) and secondly their aim is to "try their best to rip off The Jesus and Mary Chain in every way possible." Now while I've heard bands rip [...]

I've never been that into Vampire Weekend. I think it might be the boat shoes. I am, however, digging this jam, "Easter Island," from Denmark's The Eclectic Moniker . "But Adrian-," you say, "-this sounds an awful lot like that band you mentioned earlier." Sure, it's undeniable that "Easter Island" has a certain Vampire Weekend vibe, but despite their Scandinavian roots, the Eclectic Moniker do a much better job of channeling the Caribbean than the aforementioned indie giants. The fuller, calypso sound and electric drumbeat help to distinguish the two as well. Personally, [...]
Given the volume of music available for consideration on One Track Mind, we invariably have to pass on a lot of tasty morsels. [tweetmeme] In a desire to share even more great, free music with you, the Sunday Sampler offers a handful of tracks without the usual critical and biographical write-up. Less talk, more tunes. Easter Island's progressive sound is re-forging the middle-class angst pop that defined the mid 90s and early 00s. This impressive group of classically trained guys hail from Athens, GA and have been playing together in a carousel of revolving bands since 2005, when vocalist Ethan Payne met lead guitarist Nathan Thompson. Payne (formerly of The [...]

Much like the Moai statues that occupy their geographic namesake, the band Easter Island is stately and monolithic without sounding cold or self-absorbed. The Athens, Georgia quintet of brothers Ethan and Asher Payne, Nathan Thompson, John Cable, and Andrew Terrell create songs addled in human emotion and forged layer by layer. It sounds hokey, but it served them nicely on their first release, 20102s Sneaking EP. For their second go-around, the band utilize and advance the same tricks that they employed on their first effort. There is nothing rash or rushed about the band's latest EP [...]
Well-crafted, short album with an obvious high point in the pretty piano ballad "Into Bedrooms", which could easily pass for the best song Coldplay never wrote. I have to wonder what it must have been like to have been a music reviewer in the early '80s and be the first to receive an EP called Chronic Town. It must have been a sense of awesome discovery, a feeling that you'd stumbled onto something great, something that made you feel very special; knowing that you had a potential game changer in your hands, even if some of those early reviews [...]
![Easter Island: Better Things [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3247935_lg.jpg)
Easter Island is brothers Ethan and Asher Payne, who, along with drummer John Cable and bassist Andrew Terrell, create smooth, dreamy progressive pop in the vein of Stars or even Wye Oak. Better Things is filled with surreal pop songs, opening with the near shoegaze "Proud". While the EP doesn't embark completely into that space, it does flirt with it frequently. "Better Things" diverts into more of a 90s style indie rock sound full with echoing guitars. But it's always on the dreamy side. [...]

Mark Charles Heidinger is the alt-folk tunesmith behind the song-singing, record-making, globetrotting project that is Vandaveer . Born in Ohio, raised in Kentucky and now living in Washington, DC, Heidinger is joined by the extraordinary Rose Guerin in Vandaveer. They met during the heyday of DC's folk collective known as The Federal Reserve. Informal collaborations during that time led to Guerin becoming a fixture in Vandaveer. Their two voices together create harmonies that convey truth and emotion with the greatest of ease. Their third full-length album, Dig Down Deep, will be released on April 26th via Supply & Demand [...]

Easter Island, " Proud " (Thanks to Team Clermont for the mp3) Band Camp Soundies (videos of Athens bands) Low-rent version of The Bachelor. (Hey, this is how we do everything in Georgia...)
When I listen to "Easter Island", the first track from The Eclectic Moniker's most recent EP A Part of Something Bigger, I feel like I should be walking on some beautiful, sandy, sunny beach and sipping a pina colada. The group, who is from Copenhagen, Denmark, remind me of bands like Way Yes or Vampire Weekend, [...]
