The SOTO inbox is always full of cool stuff that never gets to see the light of day on the actual site, and I’d like to change that. So, every Friday I’ll be posting the best album streams and videos that were sent my way during the week. Take a scroll and find something worth remembering. Fresh off a recent label signing with New York based Ato Records, Kopecky Family Band lands in San Francisco at the Brick and Mortar Music Hall and provides an intense evening of music.

Welcome to your weekly Friday Mixtape. This week's mixtape features mostly artists that will be at SXSW this year. I took the photograph above at Collaroy Plateau Sydney, Australia. Previewing SXSW is such an odd task. It would take a year's worth of daily posts to cover just the great acts playing, and I think doing a mammoth playlist that contains every SXSW artist is a waste of time. So, today I'm keeping things clean and providing five bands that are can't miss this year, and then I'm tossing in five local acts for those of you that aren't based in Austin. Enjoy. See These 5 Bands At SXSW [...]
February is a short month, but I still found a bunch of bands that I really liked! And one I really hated (but I won't say who). February 1 - The Toothaches February 2 - The Fair and the Foul - Like their name, I found The Fair and the Foul has two musical sides. One tends toward acoustic-driven folk, with simple melodies. The other is pulsating with interesting rhythms and vocal crescendos. It was the latter that made me listen to The Fair and the Foul more [...]

You've been asking us if we'll be down in Austin, Texas for SXSW this year. Well, the answer is "hell yes we'll be in Austin!" It seems as if the slow build up to the year's most important/fun music conference/festival has, in two days, become a tidal wave of excitement and nerves. Having worked on putting together this party for the last months, we are extremely proud to share the lineup and invite you to this year's The Beehive down at SXSW, a party made possible by KOHLER and their new [...]
![The Eastern Sea // The Match [Single]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4793166_lg.jpg)
There is a never ending amount of good tunes coming out of Austin, TX - and The Eastern Sea is no exception to this. I really love their track "The Match" but honestly the album it comes off of, The Plague , is incredible in it's own right. They've got a sound in the same league as Built to Spill and The Kopecky Family Band, but it's some much more full because of the sheer number of dudes in the band. Dig on "The Match" below and check out their bandcamp to hear the rest of The Plague. [...]

Free Week in Austin may be over, but there's no rest for the wicked as there are several great local shows coming up this month. This Friday at Frank there is the killer triple bill of Gentlemen Rogues , Moonlight Towers , and Excited States . This will be an evening of loud, ringing guitars with plenty of hooks and melody. I've been a longtime fan of Gentlemen Rogues and Moonlight Towers, but in the past year I became a fan of local trio, Excited States. There's no finished album just yet but they recently posted [...]

Now that the holidays are over and people are getting back to their regular routines, we had time to put together the November week-to-week playlists. ILLUSTRATION BY LYDIA CONKLIN 2012 was a spectacular year in music - one with so many records we truly loved that narrowing down the list was difficult. Ordering it, however, was almost impossible. This was a year of shifting genres and experimentation. This was a year that introduced us to some bands that will remain on rotation for years to come and albums that are already on their way to becoming modern classics. Along with the return of many favorites, we were given the debuts from Django Django , Alt J , Frank Ocean , [...]
