Because of the title I gave my little introduction to Gillian Hills , I couldn't resist posting this toe-tapper. I first heard it on the already classic Girls In The Garage vol.12 aka Swinging Mademoiselle vol. 3 and I've given it a fair few spins at L'Amour Electronique over the past year (yes, a whole year has passed since I first placed that clear blue vinyl lp on my turntable, dropped the needle and held my breath). As you can tell I'm quite smitten with Katty [...]
Every month after I do my album rundown, I like to put together a mix of all my favorite random new-to-me downloads. Well, I guess I didn't spend much time surfing the blogs in May because it turns out I barely downloaded anything all month. So, here you go—four whole songs! (And a note re the Eleanor Friedberger song: what can I say? The chorus sucked me in too deep, I couldn't reject the song once the sax came in. I guess it's the exception to the rule .) Television: Glory (Early [...]

It's been quite the struggle to post lately for me. I copied my digital music library from my computer to an external hard drive and the process took nearly a week! My computer is ancient so that might have something to do with it, but suffice to say there was a lot of music tripping through these wires this past week. It's just short of a terabyte now and I'm not really close to having everything from my library digitized. I'm looking forward to having several copies in safe places and buying a new machine that can handle all this [...]

The Shame Just Drained was a collection of Easybeats material that slipped out on vinyl in 1977. The album contained 15 unreleased tracks from the group's mid 60s prime, 1966-1968. Most of these songs date from aborted studio sessions with Glyn Johns ( Central Sound Studio Sessions - 1968) and Shel Talmy ( Olympic Studios Sessions - 1967). There were many fine Aussie rock groups in the 1960s but none of them exploded onto the scene with as much excitement or anticipation as the Easybeats. Their live performances and chart smashes firmly [...]

the easybeats - "sorry" (download) Apparently, George Young, the rhythm guitarist for Australian garage rockers The Easybeats , is AC/DC guitarist Angus Young' s older brother. These guys were mostly popular in the mid-to-late 602s, and had one hit, entitled " Friday on My Mind ," which was covered by David Bowie on his Pin Ups album. They were managed by a real estate agent at the time. These guys have basked in relative obscurity over [...]

Beat!Beat!Beat! - We Are Waves Als die gleichnamige Sendung im Fernsehen lief, waren die Jungs von Beat!Beat!

I wrote this post over a year ago - in August 2008, to be exact - after I got a cease and desist for posting a song by a girl named Gabriella Cilmi. For whatever reason, I didn't post this. Maybe I figured some mysterious record company man in a long black coat with scars on his face would whack me in the parking lot if I did. Not so worried about that now. And, if you don't mind me noting: as of today - November 20, 2009 - I haven't heard a lot [...]

Il est proprement scandaleux de voir à quel point ce blog manque de perles sixties (des autres décennies aussi, mais c'est une autre histoire). On est Lundi et évidement, I've got friday on my mind . Le premier d'une longue série de Lundi Oldies , du moins je l'espère. The Easybeats - Friday On My Mind [extrait du single Friday On My Mind ]

The Easybeats were a rock and roll band in the 1960s from Australia. They formed in Sydney in late 1964 and split at the end of 1969. They are widely regarded as the greatest Australian pop band of the Sixties and were the first Australian rock and roll act to score an international pop hit with their classic 1966 single "Friday on My Mind" (however the folk-pop group, The Seekers, had international hits in 1965). Their manager was former Sydney real estate agent, Mike Vaughan. Download: The Easybeats – Friday On My Mind
This week, as with a lot of weeks, I have caught myself pointlessly procrastinating away chunks of my day. Time to once again, name and shame. Even though considering the slow start I made to the week, the writing is actually making good progress. Still, needs to be done to keep me on my toes. [...]

A temporary reprieve for my days of the week songs thing, which I kinda lost the impetus for a few weeks ago - having run out of really decent tunes for some days. I just had a look, and far as I can see, I didn't get round to this one, which can't be right, cuz it's cracker - and so's the B-side... in fact it's a toss-up which one I like best. The Easybeats had been absolutely heeuuge in their native Australia (well, they were from immigrant families, but hey) - and on the back of that, [...]
