As I write this I am 63 miles away from tonight's show. This entire weekend I've been moving my shit out of the city and into my new lovely home, built in 1890 by a wealthy steel worker for his 2nd daughter Claire. Supposedly her ashes were discarded in the fireplace. Creepy/awesome, right? But I just want to emphasize how STOKED I am for tonight's show. I don't really know how to discuss the excitement churning within my mental status without getting a little too personal on the subject. Whatever, peep this lineup: Blank Dogs, Eat Skull, Psychedelic Horseshit, Little [...]

A Quick Post Ok thanks a lot paper thin walls (and haha you're not closing, are you? really? fuck). Now "Crystal Ladies" by Blank Dogs is stuck in my head. Perhaps my readers will be similarly afflicted by this Cure -y drone-y reverb-y goodness?? Downloadables: "Crystal Ladies" (box.net mp3) "Three Room Window" (box.net mp3) NOTE: If you like make sure to check out the band's blog (hint hint). Troubleman Unlimited is here [...]
Ok I'll admit it. This whole post started here, on You Ain't No Picasso , but it somehow turned into something completely different so while I think YANP for the Intelligence track that totally slays one of the crappiest tracks on the entire Magnetic Fields' "69 Love Songs" boxed set, which I love, srsly I do...I have only myself and my wreckless sleep deprivation to thank for the final outcome. Which isn't very terrific anyway. Except for the songs you can grab below and all the gnarly tour dates they that the Intelligence apparently need help filling. First thing's [...]
Quotes appetizer: "Heeeelllloooo, Patton. [ demented laughing ]" -- Spike, fulfilling Tom's request to creep out/delight one of his biggest fans "I think he just signed to Just Blaze's record label. He might be a robot, though." -- DJ Riyadh Cinnabon Is Not Good To Eat, questioning the construction of D.C. hip-hot artist, Wale. "What's that, 'Surfin' Bird'? Hey Glenn, he's doing Surfin' Bird!" -- Tank, mistaking Tom's impression of his Halversom-induced stammering for a cover of The Trashmen's hit [...]
MTV Music Videos MTV Shows Entertainment News They hit up the right bands - Eat Skull, White Fang, White Rainbow, Menomena, Panther, Honey Owens, Starfucker, Horse Feathers, Southern Belle, M Ward, Thermals, Fist Fite, Malkmus. And yet there is more than just white indie, folk, electronic, alt-rock in Portland. Where were the Lifesavas for instance?
By subjecting their trashy art-punk/fuzz-garage songs to cheap, trebly, hyper-distorted production, this Portland band sounds right at home on the Siltbreeze label. read more

[MP3] Eat Skull [...]

Portland Oregon's Eat Skull has been killing it lately. With a string of quickly out of print singles and their debut LP Sick To Death (Siltbreeze) already landing on lots of "Best of 20083 lists, their deranged lo-fi pop has hit it big in the small time. Landing somewhere between ear-splitting 80's hardcore and those wonderfully wasted GBV records, here's a few favorites off their two long-gone 7 inches and an even longer-gone split cassette. Eat Skull - Dead Families Eat Skull - Seeing Things [...]

Wearing their love of New Zealand scuzz pop on their sleeve, Eat Skull are bringing the lowest-fi aesthetics back to the pop song. Somewhere, buried under the layers of gristle, tape hiss and distortion there lie some catchy melodies but half the fun of Eat Skull is digging through the fuzz. With two members of The Hospitals amidst their ranks, its shouldn't be surprising that they've got a knack for the noise though; Rob Enbom and Rod Meyer have been fraying wires long enough to know what they're doing. Putting this experience to good use, the ES crew dredge through [...]

Black Moth Super Rainbow continue their cavalcade of melted crayon box disco as they contribute to Suicide Squeeze's 7" series. Black Moth Super Rainbow - Zodiac Girls 7" Two classic sides from the BMSR collective with "Zodiac Girls" thumping along on a thick fuzzed groove with those trademarked pitched vocals floating above some stellar ice cream mountain synth lines. The B-Sideshows the sensitive croon of the collective, recalling French duo Air caught up in [...]
"If I walk outside, it's like a museum of rednecks, but we don't have a museum of cigarettes." -- Andy from Knoxville, filling Tom in on the local tourist attractions "I hate men, and if I am President ..." -- Hillary Clinton, addressing primary voters last week outside a Wawa in Roxboro, PA "Someone might want to check the books. Hoboken might be bankrupt." -- Tom, blowing the whistle on the city's corrupt comptroller after Mickey Dolenz was announced as the headler for the Arts & Music Festival "You [...]
