Barely out of their teens, but blessed with a talent that belies their tender years, Wild Swim have – somewhat incredibly – already notched up almost a decade of experience as a band. Richard Sansom (vocals), Carlos Posada (guitar and keyboard), Jacob Lively (bass) and Sam Robinson (drums) have been playing together since they formed at school in Oxford, with Jamie Jay (also guitar and keyboard) joining two years later. “Our first ever gig was at a school concert when we were 11 or 12,” recalls Posada. “That was when Richard was asked [...]

More of Martin's high-res photos from day 2 can be found on his Flickr. Bands of the day: Concrete Knives, Wolf People, Melody’s Echo Chamber Venue of the day: Screenadelica One not-to-be-underestimated benefit of an event being held in Liverpool is the impressive situational architecture. I chose a hotel based entirely on cost and availability, and yet it boasted a fine view of the Mersey estuary and is continuously watched over by that Liver bird which [...]
Sound City 2013 , day 2, began with me waking up to the strains of a Reverend and the Makers ' YouTube playlist blaring out of John's iPad. Mission accomplished from the previous night , I'd say. We headed into the convention portion of the festival and my first stop was a radio pluggers' panel with heavyweights of the radio industry, including 6music's Chris Hawkins, Radio22s Janice Long, and 6music producer Julie Cullen. As a regular BBC Radio music listener, it was really interesting to hear the presenters and producers' takes on [...]

The VPME AELIUS is the name of Caesar Publius Aelius Traianus Hadrianus Buccellanus Augustus, or Hadrian to you and I. It's a pretty apt name for electro-duo Martin Roberts and Lee Tyler to have adopted as their collective musical moniker as they too, like Hadrian of yore, are adept at building huge walls. However unlike the Roman Emperor, AELIUS (the band) use the medium of sound to construct their walls, which is handy given that we are a music blog and not 'The Masonary' Magazine' . Their latest offering 'Echoes [...]

Photos and words by Leslie Kalohi I could write volumes about the complex mission of Man or Astro-Man? as they have explored this planet for almost two decades. Or the fact that my bedroom at my mom’s house still looks like a mini-shrine to the band, complete with posters, a lunchbox/Thermos set, and carefully purchased vinyl from many eBay auctions and mail order catalogs. But, I digress. I have been a big fan of this space-age collective, not just because of the alien mythos or the legendary stage performances or the clever merchandising. [...]

AELIUS is the musical combination of London lads Martin Roberts and Lee Tyler. The utilize both electronic and more organic sounds creating music that builds slowly only to surge at all the right moments. They are prepping for an EP release later this year, but have been releasing loose singles in the meantime. "Echoes" is their latest offering and it brings to mind the best moments of M83 with the skying sounds that occur throughout. The song has our attention and will be on the lookout for more from this promising duo. [...]
"Summer is coming, and I hope I feel better by the time it does" or so Charlotte Hatherley once sang some nine years ago and nothing quite makes you sense the onset of the at least purportedly sunniest term like a !!! show. Though how might a tout pronounce the purposefully unpronounceable, I hear you ponder? They don't, in response to said proposal. They instead skulk innocuously opposite the Village Underground in vain hope the oversized flashes of white protruding forth from clenched fists serve as magnetic beacons of intrigue. "Tickets for tonight?" they mumble, voices nigh on [...]
Maps & Atlases came to town to awe those in attendance with an absurd display of musicianship.

For those of you who've been waiting on this one you probably already know that it's been pushed back a few days. That may have been done so the track could go up with this Allied Force Press mixtape compilation Earwax Ziptape III. So there's that; I just caught wind of it - you'll have to let me know how that goes. Mainly speaking on gold sweats favorite, fifty racks. Fifty tells me that Mt. Moon is probably just a loosie like Lex Talionis , [...]
Despite hailing from rainy Seattle, Telekinesis brought some summery pop jams to The Echo.

Photos and words by Debi Del Grande Brit Week officially kicked off Friday with The Veils headlining The Echo. It's been three long years since Finn Andrews graced the stage in LA wearing his trademark hat and his intense facial gestures. Tunes were played from the latest Time Stays, We Go and some oldies made it in the setlist. The singer/songwriter/guitarist blushed and smiled as the fans made the band feel at home. The encore songs consisted of "Lavinia" and "Jesus for the Jugular" and the guy behind me could not contain [...]

Photos and words by Scott Sheff Telekinesis, the ongoing project led by the multi-instrumental talent of Seattle-native Michael Benjamin Learner, returned to The Echo for a night of indie power-pop rock, a couple of jokes and “the best front row ever.” With the drum kit set front-and-center, singer/songwriter/musician Lerner engaged fans with a lively performance behind drums, demonstrating an incredible talent and ability to keep the beat and simultaneously sing lead vocals. In addition to being a master of the drums, Lerner showcased his prowess at guitar as well, stepping out from behind the drums to [...]
To some it might just mean nightclubs and four-on-the-floor beats, but EDM is about far more than just pounding rhythms. There’s a lot of "real" songwriting that often rivals any other genre you care to name, and at the extreme end of the scale are people like Andrew Bayer . It would be unfair to simply call him a “producer”-though his skill in this role is astounding-because he’s also a songwriter, a performer, a musician, and his talent is clear to see in his latest album, If It Were You We’d Never Leave . His [...]

My name is Vid, I'm 22 years old, & I record/perform as The Heavns. I recorded my debut over a 6 month period using my computer, pro tools, & all live instruments. As I recorded the "HEAVNS" LP, I also painted two murals on my walls which serve as the front/back artwork for the album. I have begun working on the follow up to HEAVNS & I'm expecting to release it by the end of 2013 after which I will tour extensively. Consequently, I'm selling my first album for $1 in hopes of raising funds for said tour. Thank you [...]
