Hi, Everyone! Well, it's that time of year again! The time when I get to pontificate about the top releases of the year. However, as usual, I have a really difficult time ranking things. This is something that carries over from my work as a professor. After all, what is the difference between a 93 and a 94? I know it when I see it, but just how to explain? So, I'm just going to wimp out present some of the albums I loved in no particular order. For those of you looking for a more [...]
It was an OK year. Nothing more, nothing less. Timber Timbre and their album "Creep On Creepin' On" was without a doubt, the album I've listened to and seen performed live the most all year. Taylor Kirk's dark, swampy sound speaks to me. As for the rest of my top 5, these albums will be listened by yours truly for years [...]
Here at Hidden Track, compiling our end of the year list of the 25 best albums has been eerily similar to the process of devising another top 25 list - the college football top 25. When we started four years ago, we attempted to devise a quantitative methodology that systematized the rankings and took the individual biases out of the equation, while still incorporating the collective views of everyone involved at HT. Well, that was sort of our BCS. This year we're going back to the old school and running it AP Top 25 style. In other words, every writer [...]

I love watching great performances or well-made documentaries featuring my favorite artists from the comfort of my couch. In 2011 a number of fantastic music-related films came out and it was nearly impossible to pick the 10 best efforts, so for 20112s list of my favorite concert films of the year, I expanded the list to 15 and there were still a few fine efforts which didn't make the cut. So with that in mind, we continue our long-standing tradition of detailing my top music-related DVDs/Blu-Rays of the year... 15. [...]

One second. Sometimes that's all a photographer gets - and hardly in ideal conditions. At worst (and most likely), a photographer may be squeezed between 15 others in the pit, mere feet away from pyrotechnics, finding support from stress-rattled knees, while focusing on a spastic frontman and sheltering oneself from a downpour, which may or may not involve a hailstorm. Truth: A great photographer handles the unenviable task of capturing that one moment everyone goes home thinking about. Half-truth: There's probably a statistic somewhere that discusses what the job does to the heart. If not, there should be a study. Double-truth: [...]

As a kid, the family usually made at least one trek annually to visit relatives in Western Pennsylvania. To mitigate the need to navigate traffic, we would often set off on these trips in the wee hours of the night, getting the first couple hours in before the sunrise. It was thrilling to be up in the middle of the night, at an hour whose existence was wholly unknown to me at the time. As my younger brother and our mother would be asleep in the backseat, I was accorded shotgun, road atlas [...]
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame presents the music and nothing but the music on CD.

Last month we mentioned that David Lee Roth had dipped his toes into the world of social media by launching both a Facebook and Twitter account. There hasn't been much action as both to this date still have the same message to followers - "Get Ready…". As we've been waiting for some sort of follow-up to just what that statement meant, it's looking like the Grammy Foundation have let the cat out of the bag, as last week they sent out this rather obvious tweet - Who do [...]

When I was a little girl, I loved female voices in music. My parents would put on Frank Sinatra and I could care less (sorry, ol' blue eyes, but your slick croon slides right off me), but as soon as Etta James or Hazel Dickens started, I would perk up and sing along, and generally [...]
