In February 2005, Edwyn Collins suffered a stroke which left him seriously ill in a London hospital. He was in a coma and required major brain surgery to stop internal bleeding which threatened to kill him. His recovery was hampered by him contracting MRSA, but in the fullness of time, he got back home, and thanks to some fantastic TLC from his partner Grace, their son Will and many other members of his family and his close friends, not to mention many hours of therapeutic treatment, he made a remarkable recovery which allowed him to get back on stage again [...]

A month after Adidas World had been unleashed on a rather apathetic record-buying public, Setanta Records put out a very strange release in November 1997. It was almost as if it was rounding up a bundle of remixes destined for b-sides for singles that would have been released if the hits had kept on coming. For years I had no idea that this record actually existed until I saw it under a listings of Edwyn's solo releases. [...]

As the BBC's 6 Music recently reported , Edwyn Collins has started discussing his next album which will be called Understated , and will feature guest Richard Hawley. The current release date is sometime in January 2013 which is probably just for the UK. I'll be surprised if it sees a US release before the end of the calendar winter season. Collins is also involved in the making of a promising looking film called In Your Voice, In Your Heart , and it's the story of Edwyn’s journey back from his life threatening illness [...]

Former Orange Juice frontman Edwyn Collins has announced details of a new solo album via BBC Radio 6. The new LP, entitled Understated , will be Collins' eighth solo album and is said to coincide with a film about the Scottish musician. An official release date is yet to be set but fans will have to wait until early 2013 to hear the new material.

AIM Independent Music Awards have announced that they will celebrate the contribution of  Edwyn Collins and Daniel Miller at this year's ceremony. Orange Juice frontman and producer Edwyn Collins (pictured above) will be awarded the Outstanding Contributions to Music prize, while Mute Records' Daniel Miller will receive the Pioneer Award. The awards will take place at a ceremony held in Clerkenwell on 29 October.

The winners of two awards at the AIM Independent Music Awards have been announced, the awards being for Outstanding Contributions to Music and the Pioneer Award. Edwyn Collins will be rewarded by the Association of Independent Music for his Contribution to the industry. So, having gotten himself noticed with The Magic Piper of Love in the summer of 97 it made perfect commercial sense for Edwyn Collins to select a really catch commercial sounding track as the follow-up. Why he chose Adidas World remains a mystery..... Nothing was made available between February 96 and July 97 but it was a period when Edwyn Collins was busy producing loads of other acts. The single that climbed into the charts, reaching #32, was already well known to loads of folk thanks to it appearing over the closing credits of the movie Austin Powers, International Man Of Mystery which had been released earlier in the year. The big hit had finally come Edwyn's way. He looked as if he would be financially secure for life on the royalties from A Girl Like You . Keen to build on his success, Edwyn penned another cracking single that was tailor-made for radio. One that celebrated Northern Soul. One that was every bit a dance classic as so many from that genre.....and ultimately it went on to enjoy as much chart success as the very best of Northern Soul....in other words it flopped. [...]
