Aaaah! I'm back after a nice relaxing vacation and ready to get on the horse that is gigging again! I've just moved to Berlin, Germany, and will be touring in Europe for a while now. (Don't worry, I'll be back in the US before you know it) I've got two shows in Berlin in June and would love to see all my fellow Berliners there! The first one is at St. Gaudy Café on June 6th and the second one is at Playing With Eels on June 21st. More info about both shows [...]
Some things are meant to be - we're glad these five covers of the Elvis classic are among them.
![[Album Review] EELS – Wonderful, Glorious](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4922415_lg.jpg)
EELS is certainly not a new comer to the music scene. E’s (the lead singer) been prolifically cranking out gravely voiced, angst driven tunes for over two decades and now EELS has a nice fat double album for us! The effort is extremely enjoyable and accessible: the rock tunes are catchy and slower songs stirring. Best of all, whether you’ve been a fan of EELS since the 90’s or if you’re just discovering them for the first time (admittedly, in the case of this reviewer), you’ll enjoy this bluesy, crunchy, effective album from a seasoned band. The album begins with [...]

The blog has been rather lacking in album reviews and picks over the past month or so, all down to my lazy neglect I'm afraid. So, it's a pretty opportune time for the ever reliable Johnny Feeney to step in and fill a void with another guest post. On this occasion, as before, he's here with three albums that have caught his attention. [...]

Kepler, one of the many office pets who frequent and occasionally staff KEXP Today is National Pet Day ! While you probably don't need a lot of reminders to appreciate that furried, feathered or finned one in your life, who might right now be curled up beside you, romping around your yard or sitting eagerly waiting for food. Pets demand attention, but not all creatures are so lucky. National Pet Day is a time not only to "celebrate the joy pets bring to our lives" but also to "create public awareness about the plight of [...]

Continuing his recent foray into film , Eels’ Mark Oliver Everett has teamed with iconic comedian Jim Carrey ( The Cable Guy , Mr. Popper's Penguins , Jenny McCarthy) for a new Funny or Die video. A send-up of gun culture, "Cold Dead Hand" starts with Carrey as actor/rifle enthusiast Charlton Heston in a Hee-Haw-style clip. Things get hairy when the anti-gun outfit Lonesome Earl and the Clutterbusters, which includes Everett as back-up singer, antagonize Heston with a no holds barred performance of the title track. We won't spoil the ending, but [...]
“Where are we? Oh, we're in Ireland!” Mark Oliver Everett appears to be experiencing the ol' Mid-Tour Blur, where every venue in every country on the itinerary melds into one. But that's OK, because the outpouring of bro-love between him and his bandmates tonight should see him through. In fact, there's even a ceremony conducted halfway through the gig where he and his longstanding guitarist, 'The Chet', are joyfully pronounced frontman and, well, guitarist. The band, E included, are all decked out in blue Adidas tracksuits, sunglasses, beards and the odd flat cap. It's likely they're aiming for [...]
Eels frontman and sole constant member Mark Oliver Everett, better known as E, has had a pretty interesting life: Teenage juvenile-delinquent status, a short run as a mid-'90s post-Beck one-hit wonder on alt-rock radio, a gradual transformation into an elder statesman of Califonia's grown-folks singer-songwriter scene. And on his WTF podcast, host and comedian Marc Maron has a way of drawing out the most interesting aspects of his guests' lives. That's presumably what he does with E on the latest episdoe of WTF ; download it over here .
The VPME We've been fans of the best thing to come out of New Jersey since Springsteen and Paulie Walnuts, acclaimed singer songwriter Nicole Atkins, for quite some time! We've followed her in a none stalky way ever since her ' Blood Diamonds' EP introuduced us to a vocal and song writing talent that left us in awe. A voice that can send shivers down your spine, illuminate the bleakest of days and generally make the world seem a better place (yes even Birkenhead on giro day!) Since then [...]

Eels offered up a set delivered in matching tracksuits at the Granada last night in celebration of their new album Wonderful, Glorious. And it was a celebration, as a clearly contented and happy... Continue reading "Eels at Granada Theater: Review" >
