Perhaps it's the unending desire to be outside when stuck at a desk all week, but I've been craving some music. Electronic. The kind that makes you walk slower or put your windows down as your screech around the winding, hot asphalt, and say "Hey weekend, you up to anything this weekend?" In the electronic spirit, we've thrown some remixes in with some very solid tracks, some of which have been out for a little bit but might have eluded your ears.. Before we got too deep, we want to bring attention to Memoryhouse , who remixed Tycho's [...]

Although Crystal Voyagers may not share much common sonic ground with the likes of Mew & The Raveonettes & Choir of Young Believers & Efterklang (well, they may tread the odd blade of grass trampled by those last two), they already seem as though they may well follow the aforementioned four out of Scandi homelands to gallivant into a more international conscience. And if the 'Crystal' prefix in the moniker may have been sullied slightly of late by ubiquity and the odd spot of awfulness, these quite great Danes already seem capable of polishing down such warped conception. A creative outlet for Nashville-based Daniel James, Canon Blue specializes in ethereal folktronica with a distinct ambient undercurrent.

I've been transfixed these last few weeks by the snippets of the Vincent Moon film about the Danish band Efterklang , called An Island . The movie was indeed filmed on an island, in the summer, with over 200 musical collaborators for their haunting, magnificent music. I heard about this film late one Oregon night recently, when the rain was pouring outside and I sat, mesmerized by this film from one of my favorite current filmmakers. Alike - Efterklang [...]

Trentemøller has a rare talent for raising goosebumps and with this remix of Efterklang 's 'Raincoats' he's ticked all the boxes. Warm yet dark cinematic soundscapes, narcotic drum grooves, psychedelic surf guitars, flawless production. Everything in its right place. MP3: Raincoats by Efterklang (Trentemoller Remix)

Re: Anders Trentemoller , color me (previously) uber-ignorant. As Reworked/Remixed has needled its way into my consciousness, the thought bubbles that could have appeared overhead have been to the effect of: "My God, this guy is prolific!" and "This is kind of like a contemporary club/electronica/pop/alternati ve equivalent of The White Album ." (I was just spinning the thing, and hadn't looked at the title when those thoughts occurred – I don't read product manuals, either.) With four or five tracks still competing for space in my brain, Reworked/Remixed [...]

5 Songs is a weekly series where we point out the strange, the grand, and the unique connections between our favorite songs. Let's get weird. Words by Chris This is a contemporary phenomenon. So, we're getting swamped with buckets of water here on the East Coast. It's usually pretty easy to get bummed out when ample amounts of rain encroach on your daily or weekly activities. To counteract that inevitable feeling, I've decided to take this H2O-drenched month in stride and whip up a playlist to brighten my otherwise dreary and damp days with uplifting rain-related tunes. Who says the barometric pressure needs to define your mood for the day?! These 5 tracks are here to hopefully warm you up. [...]
The German c.sides label gave 10 diverse artists and bands the task to create exclusive new works that all shared one goal: to make a humble contribution toward making this world a better, more just and beautiful place simply by doing what they can do best: to make art and create music, and to embark on a mission of re-exploring the notion of meaning and impact in and through music. Artists had full freedom in their creative process, with the label only providing general guidelines regarding the project's concept and an intended timeframe of 10 to [...]

When Danish DJ Trentemøller returns stateside this October for a slew of tour dates , he'll do so not only to entertain throngs of dance lovers, but also to generate hype for his latest effort, a double CD of remixes and reworkings called, conveniently enough, Reworked/Remixed . Featuring the artist's favorite remixes in addition to Trentemøller songs reimagined by artists, expect cameos from UNKLE, I Blame Coco, Depeche Mode, Modeselektor with Thom Yorke, Efterklang, Mew, Kasper Bjørke, and many more. For a taste of what to expect, stream Trentemøller's remix of Efterklang's "Raincoats" and Efterklang's remix [...]

The Blogophilia repost project continues... We've been busy with a lot of good submissions, and that's a good thing. It's time to take a breather. Today, we move forward with our goal of re-posting past volumes of Blogophilia due to demand. Remember, we're doing this all the way to volume 22, and then phhffttt! We're stopping there. Volumes 23-28 are currently active (zip format only for volumes 23-27), and we're making re-posted volumes available for about a week. Get 'em while you can. Blogophilia 15 [...]

SGTMT

Tweet I love birthdays! I also love lists. So being asked to list my five favourite tunes posted on SGTMT this year to celebrate our first birthday is a real treat. I've discovered literally heaps of great music since I started babbling about music I like for your enjoyment. Artists I hadn't heard of and now soundtrack my life. Or music from acts I was already into that I hadn't come across before. It's been a riot. Whittling down all my waffling to my [...]
