It's the first day of Winter, the longest night of the year (YAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!! WE GET MORE DAY LIGHT AFTER TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!) so I thought I would share some of my favorite winter songs, and some not so familiar winter songs. Starting off the festive solstice, here's another one that could be categorized under "lost radio treasure." Surely a song that doesn't get nearly enough spin time on the radio these days... Milan-Wintertime It's perhaps one of the coldest days/nights of the year here, perhaps one of the coldest nights [...]

This season, ignore the commercialism and crowds and enjoy your time with those you care about. Remember those who can't be there with you and love those who are. by alyssa coluccio (pic by gregory gore) When I was little, my mother bought me a dress up trunk, filled to the brim with costume jewelry and thrift store finds. My sister and I would spend hours sifting through the assorted sequins, velvets, sheers, and lace, parading our creations around the living room- spanning a thousand different personas and generations with each piece. VINTAGE PEOPLE BY EISLEY: My dress up trunk eventually disappeared and went relatively unthought-of until years later [...]

:: Mercy Mercedes (a Militia Group band) posted a video for their song The Perfect Scene . :: Some band is shooting a video. Wants you to dress like a zombie . :: Popular rich white male hosted the second episode of Headbangers Ball . :: Attention Eisley videographer; one word - TRIPOD. Spin.com has a new Copeland song "On The Safest Ledge" streaming. It is a great song, and is that one of the Eisley girls on vocals?. I guess not.... "...one of the many standouts featuring the dramatic vocal delivery of Wisconsin-bred songstress Rae Cassidy Klagstad, nicely culminates Copeland's desire in keeping the message of the album an individual matter."
Tomorrow is my 20th birthday and I'm going to get to celebrate by going to Roger's Picnic. I plan to just do something fun for a post. I was going to do something more personal...though I'm not quite sure how good of an image that would represent so I'll just stick to the music. Basically the game is to shuffle your playlist and explain any of the bad ones. I'll prove some mp3s along the way and you can share your own shuffles. Invasion by Eisley The Longest House of My Life by [...]
Tons of pictures to share and two videos to enclose of the concert...provided you're interested. I'll do a quick review as it's likely this post will not interest you with my "witty" writing. I came kind of late (intentionally) and was surprised to see another band opening the show. It ended up being Vedera which I caught about half their set. There were only a handful watching them with the stage about 1/8th full and a small crowd actually listening/caring. They were actually pretty good live and I'll say that they were probably the performance of [...]

I plan to see Eisley today at Lee's Palace in which I will have a review, photos and hopefully some video to share on Thursday. I'm going by myself so we'll see how that goes (was planning to see this show with Jessica but she's out of town). The opener is The Myriad which I know nothing about. I may show up late for that reason especially because I don't like hanging out by myself too long (I get lonely). Anyway whenever I do a concert, I do like to talk about the band [...]
My week sucked this week. Organic chemistry exam on Wednesday, Biochemistry exam yesterday and genetics earlies today. I have about 10 days off until my next few exams so it exclaims why Jess was holding down the fort to my world. Traffic has been surprisingly solid but here's a playlist to give it a little charge (yeah it's cheap but it's still fun to do a playlist nonetheless). They titles are pretty self-explanatory with what I've been experiencing. 1. It's Not Over Yet by The Klaxons 2. I Felt [...]

I f you're looking for a live show tonight, your pickings are pretty slim . Probably your best bet is to go see a sibling set by Eisley at the Conservatory . There are something like 15 , 00 0 opening bands (so maybe it's really just three) that are kind of worth your time too. Good luck ! mp3 shoebox Eisley~Invasion
When looking at reviews made in the past, don't you ever say "this publication really missed the boat on that album". Anyway when compiling and looking at the grades I gave for reviews this past year, I think it was apparent I fucked messed up on some reviews. I'm going through all the reviews I made so far and categorizing as too high or too low. I'm hoping I won't have as much mistakes for 2008 but you never know sometimes. Some albums are growers and some albums that you thought were great don't have that lasting effect [...]

15. St Vincent Marry Me Beggars Banquet Landmines The way Annie Clark handles an electric guitar is sheer magic. The first time I heard "Paris Is Burning," a couple years ago, I said, I have to have more of this music. Finally, Clark came through for me and the result is excellent, layered rock and roll, bursting with sound and image: They gave me a medal for my valor / Leaden trumpets spit the soot of power. [...]

Jimmy Eat World – Chase This Light Jimmy Eat World is a rock band, in the purest sense, from Mesa , Arizona . For me, Jimmy Eat World is as good as music ever gets, so "Chase This Light" is about as good as a CD as I've ever heard. Each song off the album is able to capture the usual and comfortable Jimmy sound, while offering something new and original. The overall production of "Chase This Light" seems completely perfect, which makes it so easy to listen to [...]

Links To Soothe Hard Feelings And Square Round Circles by Alex Carnevale We always dig the future, Katherine Mangu-Ward discusses whether or not we are there : We may not have the moving sidewalks of ever-increasing speed described by Robert Heinlein in his 1940 story " The Roads Must Roll ." But we do have escalators. With Heinlein's dream of a begoggled pedestrian commuting at 100 miles an hour dancing in your head, pokey old escalators may not seem like much of a consolation. But [...]

No, I'm not dead. I was just in Toledo for a week, but now that I think about it that's kind of the same thing. Just kidding. I actually had a good trip to Toledo this past week as I went there to visit my brother and his wife who just gave birth to the cutest little niece ever! I'm officially an uncle! My goal is to be the cool uncle that spoils the kids horribly all while setting a horrible example that the parents must try in vain to downplay. If that doesn't work I'll just be [...]
These Texas natives first grabbed me when my best friend played me "Telescope Eyes" a couple years back...one of those infectious pop-rock songs we just loved to drive around a sing-a-long to. Saw them at the Double Door in Chicago a few years ago and I was quite impressed. Eisley is composed of siblings Sherri, Stacy, Chauntelle and Weston Dupree and their cousin, Garron Dupree. Their new album "Combinations" was release last month. I'm really liking their new song called "Invasion" Buy the new [...]

Something extraordinary occurred on Monday night at Joe's Pub . While standing outside, waiting in the rain (more or less the theme of this month), I thought of last September, when I was a fresh college student in an strange new environment, standing outside in the brisk fall air outside a new venue, huddled against the concrete, waiting for the doors of my first show in the city to open. I thought of the August of 2005, when Eisley played a free show at the Bowery Ballroom , and despite spending the month in the [...]
