During the weekend, our inbox flooded with emails from readers asking about an out-of-nowhere collaboration between house favorites El Guincho and Javiera Mena. Apparently the track received a quiet run on Mexican FM airplay last week. The pairing of these pop virtuosos shouted historic (both artists have had #1 albums with us), and although we were hoping for a new track made from scratch (to prevent all aural & sentimental attachment), this is still material worthy of some excitement. This collaboration comes just in time for Javiera's planned USA tour and El Guincho's current visit across Latin America. [...]

Our Strangeways buddies are celebrating something B.I.G! They are launching their Melbourne chapter of Strangeways parties this Friday (Nov 25) at Laundry Bar, Fitzroy. The night has been dubbed "Strangeways (WITH A VENGENCE)". If you're familiar with these guys at all, you will know that this means they be theming it up with Bruce Willis masks to giveaway and a swag of other Die Hard-esque surprises! Strangeways (WITH A VENGENCE) will feature a headline set by the Queen of house party: Nina Las Vegas (JJJ). Totally wish I could be in Melbs for this. To help celebrate [...]
Contemporary interpretations of rhythmically inclined genres, like R&B and soul, have remained a continuous trend. Quality predecessors have already shown the style to appear timeless, so that is one attributing factor, but its abundance today in independent music circles is more indebted to its seamless maneuverability in sampling. That is not a reference to straightforward [...]

El Guincho - Ghetto Facil ( buy ) So it's hot today, it's Do-The-Right-Thing -hot. This will be perfect even in your air-conditioned dungeon. Listen after the jump. "Ghetto Facil" comes from El Guincho's Pop Negro .

Last week I posted twelve of my recent favourite tracks , seven of which were by Californians, earning the mixtape the name California Sunrise . It varied from electropop to reggae and soca-infused funk and there's an equal variety to be found in part 2 of the Summer mixtape series. If part 1 was the build-up, then part 2 is the break-down. I've tried to stack this mix with a few more mellow jams on the back-end, to pair with those inevitable late-July lamentations of the "summer's half over already!" variety. Youth Lagoon is a fantastic band name [...]

One of the most mysterious and intriguing releases, of all time, came from The Avalanches back in 2001 when they dropped Since I Left You. And, I only say mysterious because, since that album, they have not done a single new studio album which was perplexing considering how amazing the debut one was. But now they are set receive a huge 10-year anniversary treatment it truly deserves. The anniversary collection will include the original album as well as remixes from artists such as: El Guincho, MF Doom, Canyons, Black Dice, Jackson and his Computer Band [...]
Back in 2001, the Avalanches released their debut record, Since I Left You . Ten years later, it remains one of the select few instrumentals album that remain in my rotation. To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the original release, Modular is dropping a deluxe edition that includes the original album alongside a bonus CD that features remixes from the initial release, as well as new remixes from a star-studded cast of producers like El Guincho, DOOM, Canyons, Black Dice, and more. More details are soon to come, but this fabulous remix of the title track by [...]

Great remix of El Guincho's track "Bombay." Excellent use of the steel drum which can't be used often enough in music! Check it out. EL GUINCHO / Bombay (Fresh Touch Dub Mix) by Young Turks

![PRIMAVERA SOUND 2011 AWARDS [FESTIVAL]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3501961_lg.jpg)
Now that I've had some time to reflect on my days in Barcelona for Primavera Sound 2011, I'm going to do my absolute best to sum up the experience with awards to the bands that either rocked my world or made me want to cry (from either excitement or disappointment). For all my band photos from the fest, click here . For a full glimpse of the bands I tried to see, or if you're curious about who exactly played the festival, click here . For a gallery of pretty [...]

Words, videos, and pictures by Rick Moslen The 11th Annual Primavera Sound Festival assaulted my ears at the end of May in its regular home alongside the marvelous shores of Barcelona, Spain. For three full nights (and two shorter evenings bookending the event), the eight main outdoor stages and massive auditorium hosted over two hundred of the best artists in the world of indie rock/pop/hip-hop/noise/folk/et c without the burden of dirty camp sites (visitors retreat to their hostels or apartments), or the overcrowded frustration of not sharing the same time zone as the band you're [...]
