wehavephotoshop Enough electro! Haha, don't worry I'll continue posting electro tracks. This is just a one day break from it. Just for you, Architecture In Helsinki . The El Guincho remix of Like It Or Not was kind of funny and soothing at the same time. Well all these tracks were really. The other two songs are original tracks, Heart It Races by Architecture In Helsinki and Antillas by El Guincho. [...]
"Hey. Have you heard of El Guincho? He sounds a lot like Panda Bear," said the record store clerk as I purchased Panda Bear's "Person Pitch" on vinyl. I spent the next several weeks researching El Guincho, and researching his music to see if it could hold a candle to what most peaople consider one of the Best Albums Of All Time. Panda Bear is sort of like the Spice Girls back during their prime. It's the kind of thing that every one listens to, and we all have a reason to [...]
Spain has a very vibrant indie rock scene, many artists quickly gain an underground audience by performing a lot and networking through MySpace. There's much talent to be discovered: check out only four examples below! La Casa Azul is one of the more mainstream indie bands. Specialized in catchy discopop, the Barceloneans even tried their luck in the pan-European camp fest Eurovision . "La Revolución Sexual" can only be enjoyed with attributes like an afro wig, a white costume, huge sunglasses, and a smile from ear to ear. The delicate [...]

Bristol's Munch Munch are the first to take to the stage. I'd been meaning to write about these guys ever since I got hold of their Wedding EP a few months ago. On record, their unconventional take on pop is as shambolic as it is brilliant and tonight's performance was no different. The battling duo of keyboards are chaotic, pulsating notes spilt and echo off each other while vibrant drumbeats ring out and the occasional xylophone sing bright melodies. But when it all comes together, in the pounding synth riff in Wedding, its not crisp enough to make [...]
We recently chatted to Pablo Díaz-Reixa AKA El Guincho AKA the One-Man Tropical Rave Machine about how he manages to make music that's wilder than his crazy hair. He explained that while his album might sound like Mardi Gras on Fun Island it's actually kind of depressing. Here he explains Palmitos Park to those of us who no hablo español...

No, he's not Mexican. El Guincho is the recording alias of Spaniard musician Pablo Díaz-Reixa. Similar to Panda Bear 's solo work, El Guincho's sound comes heavily from the sampling of old Afro beat tracks and more tropical tones with a dub sensibility. The comparison's with Panda Bear are extensive, and sometimes I feel like I'm even hearing the same stuff. El Guincho's work is a little more 'tropical' and bright sounding because of the heavy dub influence over the sunny samples. Indecipherable Spanish chanting, tribal rhythms and a feel-good attitude make this stuff shine. He's [...]

el guincho (known to his friends as pablo díaz-reixa) from barcelona, delivers a rather unusual mixture of 'spanish chanting, thudding tribal rhythms, ghostly harmonies, and the bits and pieces of a thousand as-yet-unwritten pop songs' (quote from the pitchfork album review , score: 8.3/10), ending up in some kind of 'samba psychedelia' or even more on point, he has also been called a 'one-man carnival'. his remix for the upcoming cd ep of australian experimental indie collective architecture in helsinki called 'like it or not' just ended up in my inbox and the daredevil [...]
I don't know how to explain my feelings right at this very moment, for I have found out the best news I've heard since...probably ever, and that's saying a lot. El Guincho will be bringing he's fine self down Australia's way in May to promote his debut album 'Alegranza' and taking in the support slot of Architecture In Helsinki 's 'Like It Or Not' Tour. This is incredible news, and I really have to hand it to AIH, they always bring some really good acts along for their tours ( YACHT , Muscles , [...]

It's now 9:00 AM, the drugs are wearing off and I shall soon be retiring for what should be a calm, meditative weekend...even if it is only Thursday morning...wow, that's pathetic. No, what is more pathetic is thinking someone will read this. No, that's great, I can type whatever I want and sing it too..."I heart nazis, poop-hands, abortion-abortion, I want Ann Coulter inside me, poop-hands again, I steal silverware and batteries, cops are useless (unless your my cousin Jeff, and in that case, Jeff keep making the family and the force [...]

If you're looking for the sound of the summer, you may well catch it in this guy from Barcelona - El Guincho or Pablo Díaz-Reixa. Animal Collective/Panda Bear comparisons are inevitable perhaps, but El Guincho brings some unique influences to the table such as a fond love of African Highlife, repeating rhythms, hypnotic chants and a sunny disposition. It's sung in Spanish of course too. El Guincho has recently signed to XL Recordings so expect a push for his excellent debut Alegranza! , six songs of which is streaming right now on his MySpace [...]

Without further adieu we give you our pics from SXSW. Some of our pics may not be the highest of quality, but we wanted to make sure to show all the artists we had the pleasure of seeing during our time at SXSW. Gorilla Vs. Booze @ The Peacock El Guincho More pics after the jump...
Monday: Cut Copy + El Gincho @ Mercury Lounge 9pm $13 If you're like me chances are you'll spend most of Monday drinking on the sidewalks of Fifth Ave. or parading around New York with some form of green on you, but for the few of you that may not enjoy that type of drunken display might I suggest heading to Mercury Lounge for two of the most buzzed about acts going right now. Both Cut Copy and

a indie world music anda rendendo ótimos frutos.

My first post was about bands in NYC on their way to SxSW, this one is about ones on their way back from Austin. People who actually went to Austin might be gigged out, but for the rest of us it's a wealth of options. March 17 | Cut Copy + El Guincho+ The Fashion @ Mercury Lounge Potentially the best lineup of a very, very busy night. Australia's Cut Copy make great, New Order-y dance pop but [...]

el guincho and little guinchos As we might've possibly mentioned once or twice, Barcelona 's El Guincho will be making what I believe is his North American debut at 12:30 PM on Wednesday in Austin at Gorilla vs. Booze 2008 . In preparation, we've been listening to quite a bit of this stellar summertime mix that the man himself made for the Fader recently, featuring tracks from some of his biggest influences. At the very least, this'll give us something to talk to the guy about: [...]
