Seeing that everyone around the globe will have their eyes fixed on London next month with the start of the summer 2012 Olympics there, it's only appropriate that we at TGTF Towers get involved with a post of our own. Regarding the musical selections for the Games, of course. Britain being Britain, the Olympic organisers were spoilt for choice on which artists to tap for this international showcasing event. Just in this week, we're getting more names and details on what to expect ahead of the official start of the Games. [...]

Veel [...]
Sometimes you don't know what you want to listen to because you're not experiencing any particular emotion... and sometimes you don't know what you want to listen to because you're feeling all of them at once.

Last week the titans of thrash, Slayer , announced they are going to release a deathly delight for their legions of fans – wine. Dubbed 'Reign in Blood' after their brutalising 1986 album, the Cabernet Sauvignon is the ideal accompaniment for any true metaller's raw steak with extra blood. And what is more metal than blood-coloured alcohol? Maybe Lemmy 's whiskey collection, but that's about it. Some bands, though, appear to just love putting their name to anything. Instead of forcing fans to take out a mortgage for the chance to see their [...]

The Procast is so called because this week has been an awfy professional one. The third Meursault album is approaching, and because there are publishers, managers, bookers and all sorts involved in this one we had to have a Serious Meeting about it and make sure the planning was all being done properly. We did all the grown-up stuff like minute the meeting, assign people deliverables and all sorts of stuff. It was the closest to being back at my old job that I have experienced since I left, in all honesty - lists, management, timescales, budget discussions [...]

Rating: 9.3 Geographer 's past has been hardly noticed up until now. After all, their collection consists of a 73 single, "Kites" (that could alone make the band noteworthy) and their fantastic first album called Innocent Ghosts , which pairs quite nicely with their Animal Shapes EP . As you'll see from our review last time around, we've been tuned into Geographer since 2009 which is when Tricycle Records may have picked up one of the indie scene's best-kept secrets. [...]

The headliners for this year's Live at Jodrell Bank have been announced. The annual festival that goes on annually in the shadow of the iconic Lovell telescope on the grounds of the University of Manchester's Jodrell Bank Observatory will take place in 2012 on 23-24 June. Local heroes and now the folks responsible for making this year's Olympics in London sound great Elbow (pictured above) will headline Saturday the 23rd; the Modfather Paul Weller will assume headline duties on Sunday [...]
A long time ago in our galaxy I used to create monthly lists that I referred to as Best of the Month (BOTM). Along the way life became more filled and music gathering, curating, and dissemination became more and more pushed to the periphary. Today as I was cleaning up a personal hard drive I stumbled upon these tracks that at some point I thought worthy of being shared. So I'll just dump them here (mostly so I can empty that folder from the drive). Enjoy the music. mp3 : Cee Lo - Radioactive (Kings [...]
Sometimes fat hooks can be annoying, gimmicky and show little musical talent. "Grounds for Divorce" by the (obviously) British band Elbow is not one of those cases. Lead singer Guy Garvey's heavily accented voice is a sing-songy shout, filled with dispair. Although Mark Potter's guitar and Richard Jupp's drums aren't groundbreaking, they fit with the feel of the song. It's as if the distemper is being conveyed through the instruments and - just like uncontrollable anger - it's untamed. What differentiates Elbow from another indie-rock band is their use of acoustic instead of electric guitar. There's a folk [...]

For Puff Daddy and company, it's all about the benjamins. For MUF, it's all about getting that REM sleep with some good indie sleep music . For our followers, you already dug into Sleep Music Vol. 1 , which featured some ridiculously sleepy songs with the likes of Bon Iver and Tycho (both on our top 100 songs of 2011 ). Remember, we're not going mainstream on you, so you probably haven't heard any of these songs. The truth about these sleep lists is I made them for my wife, who [...]
We know you lost sleep over the course of last month, waiting patiently, racking your brain to see what we could possibly list as our favorite albums of 2011. We lost sleep too, compulsively checking our lists twice and perhaps after a fist fight or two, we settled on 25 firm choices. After all, who listens to as much music as us? Who actually has time to listen to put together a valid top 25 list with no filler? We’re fairly certain that most other sites don’t include at least a handful of the albums listed on none other [...]
