Deleted Scenes' approach to crafting songs is as old-school as it gets. They tour incessantly, testing new songs out on the road. They let their compositions breathe and develop- well before ever pressing record. Their debut album, Birdseed Shirt, was two long years in the making, and I was fortunate enough to see and hear their [...]
The next two weeks are going to be really busy for me, as I'm working every day. I usually only work one or two days a week, so this is going to be a big switch. I'm actually really looking forward to it. You all know how much I love my job and I can certainly use the money as well, so it's a win-win situation. The thing is, and there's always a thing, isn't there? It will probably cut into my blogging time. So what I might [...]

Eldridge Skell's The Rude Staircase released their rollercoaster of a record Sookie Jump, back in the fall. The album begins with the temperament of a musical freak show, following into a maze of unexpected runs and stops, with strings and horns allowing the dynamics to come to fruition. Sookie Jump is a well thought out collection of ups & downs, which rests for the zippy afternoon splendor of "In The Silo," coming complete with bells and whistles. The chaos resumes with "Houses are Burning," continuing to the end in manic fashion. music: [...]

Listening : 1. Eldridge Skell's The Rude Suitcase - I have no idea if this is what music typically sounds like in Iran, but this band is from Iran. Their bio say that their music is reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water, and while it does build tension the comparison my be lofty. I will say they have a unique sound. Their latest album was released on 9/11/07 by What is Delicate ? Listen to: Horses Are Burning ( mp3 ) and Here Come the Red Teeth ( mp3 ) [...]

Aaron Stout: This emerging 27-year-old reveals vivid images of travel, heartbreak and spirituality in whatever he's working on. All of this, encrypted with brooding layers and ethereal sounds, further the listener's experience. "The Coronation" "Fountain of Youth" Cannonball Jane: "Cannonball Jane is the coolest one woman band I've heard in a long time. This is what Carole King would sound like if she had a sampler and was really into Francoise Hardy. I love her recordings and can't wait for more!" – Kathleen Hanna [...]

Washington, DC "builds tension and grabs attention by really cramming darkness into the spaces between sounds in an uneven interstitial bumpy car ride soundtrack on dusty dirt road donkey trail of desire." "The Rude Staircase - the best combination of Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel and The Banana Splits I've ever heard." –Kristian Hoffman, solo artist and member of 70's cult New Wave band The Mumps. The story of Eldridge Skell's The Rude Staircase begins with a hearty appetite for transpollinated thought patterns, a dead-end job doing thankless invigilation at the Mardi Gras Indian Museum in New Orleans, LA and a natural inclination towards the transcendentalism of misty hilltops. The group's founder and leader L. Skell honed his sonic hypnotism by woodshedding [...]
