Image courtesy of Matthew Schwartz at She Hit Pause Studios . God knows, I've been pretending to be one of the boys for a few months now. I've been grunting and saying "dude." I've even tried my hand at spitting. The last thing I wanted was to turn this site into an eighth-grade slumber party: hair-braiding, and pinkie-toe-painting and Cyndi Lauper on the Hello Kitty boombox. But fuck it. It's post-Oscar Monday and the Associated Press is twittering with descriptions of Cate Blanchett's dress. [...]

The Buzzcocks, "Ever Fallen In Love?" - Normally, whenever I go about putting one of these elaborate Personal Self-Immolation Pageants & Chili Cookoffs together, I take measures to camouflage the catalyst's name, mostly because I feel bad holding people accountable for offenses they committed inadvertantly back before they'd even taken Driver's Ed. Today, however, is not one of those days; Erin Becker's name is, in fact, Erin Becker, and as far as I'm concerned she spent up any sympathy I might have for her public profile back in the eighth grade. So here goes. As I may [...]

Berlin, Germany's Electrelane I'll have to admit, before recently hearing them again, I was only mildly familiar with with the four ladies from Berlin that call themselves Electrelane ; which is kind of embarassing considering they've released three albums prior to their foirthcoming No Shouts, No Calls . Catching up with their back catalog aside, the new record, which will be released by Too Pure at the end of April, is probably the only 2007 release so far that I've actually been consitantly listening to over and over again. Especially the first [...]

First list for BF after long hiatus. I made this as an extension of two other lists at Motel de Moka and Music is Art . Curious thing, what is really the shape of music to come? That was the main thinking behind the lsit, if not a slap happy effort to just shake things up with several exotics tracks while trying to keep it listenable. This one is BF's turn. What I find. Thing can be very ordinary but with slight distortion everything changes. ES does that. Automatic [...]

I've caved once again and paid for Last.fm personal radio, and I love it; but I'm not sure I understand it--songs I'd swear I've never listened to keep coming up on my personal radio, where I didn't think recommendations figured. This is hardly a bad thing, since one of them was Electrelane's Gone Darker from their live CD Axes . Ambient instrumental semi-electronica (math-rock, is it?) like Explosions in the Sky or This is a Process of a Still Life , or Mogwai in their [...]

Power house Electrelane has just released a B-Sides, Rarities, & Live album on Too Pure . Too Pure is a great label boasting releases from such acts as PJ Harvey, Tracy & the Plastics, and Stereolab. Electrelane also just finished writing a new album this summer in Germany and are recording now in Michigan. Their last album was so great it got them on the cover of WIRE magazine, you know the indie/noise/hip kids guide to music mag. Long Dark I'm On Fire [...]

Someone asked me last week what exactly is a Graboid. Well my friends, i wasn't exactly sure it was anything as I stole the word from a website I like to visit. I just assumed it was similar to the word 'grab' so it made sense at the time. Plus the feature needed a title and I can never come up with anything clever. With that being said, I looked up graboid in the ever reliable and addictive Wikipedia (random article is too much fun) and this is what came up. [...]

Yes, yes. We know, it ended in horrible, horrible drama and secret affairs and broken hearts, but wow. While Bryan Ferry and Jerry Hall lasted, that was glamour, y'all. Bryan Ferry -- Jealous Guy Roxy Music -- Dance Away And goodness me, how deliciously loud and rowdy and kinda dirty are Saddle Creek's Ladyfinger (NE) ? This band makes big, BIG, BIG rock'n'roll that's smart , just the way we like it. And hey, is having 'lady' in your name, like, [...]
