Electric Six : Gay Bar [ purchase ] Electric Six are a Detroit garage-rock-punk-disco band, even though they sound deliberately RP British in this tune. Well, British over a killer punk riff, I mean. Wikipedia tells us that the lead singer claims the song arose from a mondegreen of Devo's "Girl U Want" that he heard as "just a girl, just a girl at a gay bar" while the song was playing in a very loud nightclub. (The actual lyric is "She's [...]

I'm always down to listen to new things, even from artists I've never heard before. In fact that's sort of why I got into writing for a music blog in the first place. So when I started getting track-by-track submissions from this guy Kent Odessa , I would casually check out a song here or there, and then pass onto to something else. Not because I didn't like it, but because I really had no idea how to package a post about him. I mean, who was this guy? Before long I had four or five different random records [...]
On the heels of Jack White's new album announcement as well as the unveiling of Blunderbuss 's first single " Love Interruption ," we thought it was time to revisit the hits - not the literal ones , unfortunately - of White's wide-reaching, strange and prolific career so far. So, here's 13 of Jack White's most memorable collaborations. Sorry Bobby D . For once, you didn't make the cut. 13. Insane Clown Posse and JEFF The Brotherhood w/ Jack White Definitely one of the higher-ranking moments in Jack White's "WTF?" register, White [...]

"Radio Ga Ga" is among my favorite Queen songs solely because of the band's performance at Live Aid. It's not even a song that made the band's original greatest hits album. Subsequently, it doesn't get the recognition it deserves. If I were you I would start here , the Live Aid performance, get familiar with the song. Then give Electric Six's version (below) a listen. I can't say it's an absolutely stellar version of the song, but it's one of the only covers of this song as far as I know, and I'm happy to see it covered. [...]

The phrase "woman unleashed," unfortunately, doesn't quite apply - Chaidez and the rest of Kitten are all still in their teens. Kitten's set at The Bowery Ballroom began with the four male members of the band on [...]
Dick Valentine largely defines Heartbeats and Brainwaves , functioning as its only truly consistent element and most identifiable presence. Electric Six has been doing this for long enough that their novelty act is long past novelty, and people have actually started to accept that under the lyrical irreverence and the chameleonic musical approach is a solid band that isn't going to disappear anytime soon. Every time Electric Six releases a new album, a crowd of people sighs, saying "what do you know, they released another album, I wonder if it sounds like 'Gay Bar'"...

Electric Six just released their new album Heartbeats and Brainwaves on October 11th on Metropolis Records. Last Friday, they played the Bowery Ballroom in New York City. Our photographer Tommy Ottley was there to get some great shots of the band. Check them out inside.

Detroit's Electric Six are a six-piece band fusing funk, rock, disco and punk with falsetto vocals and a touch of comedy. Their breakout single "Danger! High Voltage" was an infectious dance-rock number featuring Jack White on backing vocals. White has denied his involvement but the band has confirmed it several times in interviews. The single reached number 2 on the UK singles chart, and they enjoy icon status in that nation. Official Site SAMPLE MP3's FROM ELECTRIC SIX BUY MUSIC [...]

A millionaire friend once told me, "Mallman, you have two options in this world: crazy busy or dead poor." I corrected him: "Try the music business, you'll be both."
