Oslo producer Pelifics , aka Eirik Seu Stokkmo, dropped today his new three-track EP "Lifetime Vol. 13 on Brilliantine , which combines his love for disco and house sounds, with a strong homage to 1980's pop and funk. The lead track of the release is the ethereal and beautiful "Wish It Could Last", a collaboration with Toronto's Drive Soundtrack darlings Electric Youth. It sounds so good. The EP also includes the track "Can't Promise Anything", featuring Human Life, and "Magic". In his own words: "The track "Magic" started off as [...]
Thinking I had some homework to do before 5PM today I wandered into the library only to figure out it's not due until sunday. But since I'm here I've decided to shell out a couple of jams I've gathered this week as well as the highly anticipated mixtape from Mad Decent featuring Diplo, FKi, Heroes x [...]

The Norwegian group Pelifics is set to release a two part EP, one next month and the other in March. The March edition will bring us a collaboration with Canada's AXXE , who I had the unique opportunity to interview last year . The February portion will feature two new tracks, one with Electric Youth and another with Human Life . Human Life first came on my radar with " Wherever We Are ," a seriously 80s disco track with vocals to match. These Californians get their collaboration on in "Can't Promise Anything," a track [...]
I just finished watching the movie Drive (2011), directed by Nicholas Refn. Holy shit is it ever fantastic! Honest to god the best movie I have seen in years. The film pins its headlights on the dark implications of unchecked obsession and good intentions gone haywire. That dangerous duality – humanity on the razor's edge of animal brutality – is played to unnerving perfection by Ryan Gosling. With a low budget and the odd Hollywood marquee, the film was never expected to make the impact it did. And well; the soundtrack is even more impressive. With a lineup [...]

Electric Youth - Summer Never Ends Mix by Electric Youth (Official) [...]

Electric Youth first got on everyone's radar with that song they did with College and it turns out that they know a thing or two about spinning. Their "Summer Never Ends Mix" features a lot of great and lesser known tracks, all pointing to the duo's love of 80s dance music. Electric Youth - Summer Never Ends Mix by Electric Youth (Official) And here are two recent EY tracks we totally missed. "Right Back To You" [...]

Electric Youth are one of my personal favorites. This mix they did for Valérie is another example of their excellent musical taste and reflects another side of electronic music that in my opinion is pure gold. This Summer mood mix is dreamy and full of synth pop beats, taking us directly to the 802s. You can also take a listen on their latest track. Definitely these guys deserve our total attention. Amazing..... Electric Youth - Summer Never Ends Mix [download here ] [...]

"If there's a way, I'm coming right back to you" When I was watching the movie Drive this year, I was really taken with the main, repeated "theme" song, which was totally ambient 80's flashback. It was a collaboration between French DJ College and wonderful Canadian pop duo Electric Youth. Smitten, I decided to look into Electric Youth's discography, which has really just begun. Their first EP was released late last year and features this, the opening track. Right Back To You is pure electro bliss. And just when you think it [...]

5. The Death Set - I Miss You Beau Velasco If you're thinking that our list this year has been noticeably lacking in a particular instrument, you'd be correct. 2011 hasn't been a great year for guitars and little of the music we've listened to has centered around them. One album however which had face-melting frettery very much at it's core was The Death Set 's 'Michel Poiccard'. Our favourite song from the record was 'I Miss You Beau Velasco', a fitting tribute to former bandmate Beau who sadly died from an overdose in 2009. We all know [...]

It's been two and a half months since the last one of these. 70-something days and CG and I haven't heard a thing from anyone about their absence, which just proves to me that you people have no desire or appreciation for dance music. We, however, could only stay away for so long. You're just going to have to deal with it. Skip over the post and listen to your "more sophisticated" indie rock and hold on to those "I only listen to hip-hop" mentalities. We don't give a shit. 10 new songs. Blaow. [...]

After teaming up with College for the excellent 'A Real Hero' from the soundtrack to the film Drive ,
I started following Toronto's Electric Youth after bumping into their newest EP " Right Back At You " a couple weeks back. Thank god for that, because their newest "A Real Human Being" mix is the only things getting me through this groggy Monday morning. Fashioned with the new and old, expect nothing but groovy tracks within this hour compilation. Electric Youth - "A Real Human Being" Mix
This mix was actually completed mid-month, which actually made things quite hard for me as I didn't have a ton of new stuff in my collection for the month. So I took a night to think about the... Read the rest on Speakerboxxx.com

I know I'm late on this, but just got around to seeing Drive , the Ryan Gosling film that seems to simultaneously be an homage to early-702s Steve McQueen getaway flicks and the Grand Theft Auto series, with its hat tipped directly at 80s-themed Vice City . Its highly-stylized, videogame-noir finds the perfect medium between nostalgia and total awareness that makes for one of the more unique major releases of 2011. Everything from its title sequence (and font) to the sound design and soundtrack, is deliberate, and the violent and exciting are always balanced [...]

It had been a long day yesterday, tramping the cold streets with a child still in the throes of excitement of a new walker bike. Two and a half hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon. The last thing I needed was an email with a smiley face. Like laughing at your own joke. This, therefore, nearly headed for the Trash. This is a remix of College's A Real Hero , which means precisely nothing to me. It describes the genre as triumphant celestial bliss . Which is provocative. The tune has a [...]
Electric Youth is one of those bands that I had on my radar last year, but seemingly went away, one can presume to work on their material of course. Well, now they're back once again with their new digital EP called Right Back To You. The EP contains 9 tracks, 2 original, 3 remixes and [...]
