Referencing early indie pop artists like Orange Juice, Electricity In Our Homes is precisely what I look for in a pop band: a hint of jangle guitar, some catchy harmony vocals (a male, a female, maybe more) and a melody that gets stuck in your head. "Oranges" has an off-beat sound that is hard to ignore. Electricity In Our Homes released a new album called Dear Shareholder a few weeks back on Fierce Panda Records . In this [...]

Last weekend was my grandmother's Celebration of Life. It would have been her 92nd birthday. We all had margaritas (it was also Cinco de Mayo; I had three) and told funny stories about her life. It was a blast, a good closure and celebration to a woman who meant a lot to a lot of people. Upon returning on Monday, I took a trip out to Anacortes and The Business, picking up the new Cloud Nothings LP, Attack On Memory , which served as inspiration for tonight's show. [...]

I read an interview with Electricity In Our Homes where they said that they were influenced by early Postcard records by Orange Juice and Joseph K . On side two of their new album Dear Shareholder which came out a few weeks ago on Fierce Panda, the song Nothing, If Not Lovely starts off with what sounds like a riff lifted from OJ, but then goes all wonky and ends up in some dissonant plane. That, in a nutshell (sorry) is Electricity In Our Homes. There are songs like Oranges with a rattling riff and unforgettable [...]
I stumbled upon this great track from Electricity in Our Homes , and I really wanted to share it with everyone. At first, I started to think of their album, Dear Shareholder , as a bit of constructionist pop-art, but the more I listen the more I can't help but compare them to the early work of our dear friends in Colourmusic . It combines odd time structures and off-kilter melodies/harmonies; somehow, it all fits nicely together giving you a nice groovy listen that'll keep [...]
![[Listen] Electricity In Our Homes: "Aching Breaking"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4094152_lg.jpg)

The 7-inch single has been around since 1949. That's 62 years and counting! In my humble opinion the 7-inch single is still the essence, pinnacle and acme of pop perfection. Optimally, it's one song, one side (Some try to squeeze on more). That's no room for screwing up. You always hear that releasing a 7-inch is a money losing proposition, but that thankfully, doesn't keep pop geeks from doing it. In honor of true blue pop geek vinyl junkies out there, here is the second installment of the annual Finest Kiss top 40 7-inch singles countdown. [...]

9 July, 2011 I signed up to cover 1234 Shoreditch Festival almost as soon as I arrived in London about a month ago. The fact that I had heard of only a tiny clutch of the artists playing didn't matter to me at all. I was in London now. There was stuff happening. I had to be a part of that stuff. I'm pleased to report that my unbridled enthusiasm for big-city life paid off in my favour: 1234 is a perfectly sexy little number - a lot of fun, and a lot of [...]

SA favourites Electricity In Our Homes have had a lovely 12" out for a bit now called 'You're Doing So Well'. Not only are both tracks up to the usual scratch, but the band are also playing up in London's Silver Bullet in Finsbury Park with our friends OntheROOF. I shall be getting up to get down. You can get your mits on EIOH's latest on their myspace. Links below. Electricity In Our Homes - You're Doing So Well [...]

Electricity In Our Homes have been together for a nearly three years, but are just getting around to releasing something more than a single. They dress like Talking Heads circa 1978, but sound more like Pig Bag , Fire Engines and the Raincoats intertwined into a very taught rope. Their previous three releases have been 7 inch singles that have been snapped up into OOP status, except for the last one on 4AD which is still gettable. These days with records going out of print before you can click a [...]

Electricity In Our Homes are about to release an amazing 12" on Monday 27th July called 'We Agree Completely'. It's going to have 6 tracks on it, two of which are on their myspace at the moment. The post punk/art rock tracks are really something else. I can understand why the likes of Rough Trade hail them as a really influential band for the future. EIOH's sound is infectiously intelligent. Minimal but rich. I'm really into the track 'Don't You Want To' it hooks into you in all the right places. Cool, classic, great bass, great vocals, great sound. You [...]

Thrashy lo-fo punk messiness from this London band. 'Gymnastics' is just a full on headbanging diamond of a track with all three band memebers (Paul, Charles & Bonnie) piling intogether on the vocals. This works well with the bass, drums and guitar combination. Simple yet effective sounds and vocals seems to be the ethos from the band. The songs really speak for themselves because they are just so darn good. The vocal overlaying on 'Motorbike' is ingenius. Touches like this and their classic modern sound means you should expect to hear a hell of [...]

[Photos by Anna Ferraro ] The venerable UK indie label, Fierce Panda , threw a birthday bash to celebrate their fifteenth year of existence and a few of our favorite people from across the pond helped capture it for us. We're quite aware of the crowd The Walkmen can pull here Stateside, not to mention the recent buzz and allure of indie-darlings Hatcham Social , so we can only assume this show was as amazing as it looks. Thankfully the fine Anna Ferraro was there [...]
Given our rainy city's fondness for eulogising it's past, the collective altzeimers suffered with regards to The Diagram Brothers, aka the best band to ever hail from Manchester, is both peculiar and depressing. Luckily London four piece Electricity in Our Homes aren't quite so forgetful. They've embraced the aforementioned Brothers' love of dischordandce and married it with their own clipped rhythmic sensiblility to create one of the most exciting musical propositions of the past eighteen months. This Wednesday they'll be bringing their buttoned down brand of dissonance to the Shoot Me Club at [...]

The drums. The drums. The drums... [...]
