I lied. They are. But they do reach further back in their influences, with some serious Beatles influence (post ' tea ' discovery) present in their psychedelic op... Read more..

Elephant Stone is the brainchild of Rishi Dhir of Montreal 60s revivalists High Dials, but this is far, far better than anything by that band. As the name implies, it shamelessly casts a gaze backwards but the result is stunningly catchy nu-retro psych-pop. 'Love The Sinner, Hate the Sin' delivers an instant hit of perfect powerpop pleasure in its chiming guitars, pleading vocals and liberating melodies - you'll fall in love as soon as you hear it (and a free download is available from their site). The other song, 'The Sea of Your Mind', is eight-and-a-half minutes [...]

Music festivals have come and gone in Canada, but one which seems to have taken hold and established an identity is Montreal's Osheaga Music and Arts Festival . Conveniently scheduled right at the end of July, and picturesquely located on its own island by the Saint Lawrence River, it brought fans from across the country and elsewhere up close and personal with nearly 100 bands and DJs. It's not quite as big as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, or Coachella yet, but Osheaga is well on its way to becoming a preferred summer destination. I lost track of the number of times artists [...]
Heading to Osheaga in Montreal this weekend? Then be sure to have a decent cell phone with video recording capabilities to become part of the production team as Elephant Stone film the video for their new single "Love the Sinner, Hate the Sin". Actually, you'll be filming the video, along with everyone one else in attendance at the 1 pm performance on Sunday July 31, then after you upload what you've recorded at their website, all the footage will be edited together to make the video. Here's Elephant Stone's Rishi Dhir talking [...]
![The Garrison on June 17, 2011 [NXNE 2011]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3544816_lg.jpg)
I decided to hit up the Garrison during NXNE on a Friday night. It was part of Osheaga Presents showcase. The bill had Montreal acts except for one which was Rich Aucoin . I guess he apparently made a splash at last year's festival. Anyways I got there when Elephant Stone was playing. I forgot that this band was playing this year. All I can say is, that sitar is amazing to see live! [...]

Elephant Stone is going to, hopefully, be a big chunk of my Friday night at NXNE , as they hit The Garrison at 10 PM. opening up for Braids. This should be one of the more packed sets of the night. Without question, the 60's pop feel is staunch and inviting in every Elephant Stone track. The High Dials' Rishi Dhir is at the front of the outfit, and plays the freaking sitar. I love that. There's a fabulous infusion of [...]

The wonderful Elephant Stone , hailing from Montreal in Canada, released their debut album in 2009. 'The Seven Seas' made quite a splash (ouch!), garnering positive press across the globe, and attracting the attention of several labels. When their second release, the EP 'The Glass Box' was issued in 2010, it appeared on the band's own Elephants On Parade imprint in Canada and North America, and 360 Degree Music in Europe. A hectic flurry of activity followed, with a support slot on the Brian Jonestown Massacre's north American tour, the group's first trip to Europe and showcases [...]
You might have noticed the new banner on the right hand side of Indie Music Filter . Its a badge for the new company Groopease , a great place to learn about rising, independent musical talent and purchase albums at deeply discounted prices. Groopease has been working with some quality bands and a portion of every purchase goes to a charity. Like other Canadians , I'm embracing couponing, even in my music purchases. Yesterday was the first day to get the album the The Seven Seas by Montreal band Elephant Stone [...]
Frá Bandaríkjunum kemur hin tilraunakennda en jafnframt dásamlega hljómsveit tUnE-yArDs . Þau hafa verið að vekja gríðarlega athygli ekki síðst fyrir tónleikaframmistöðu sína þar sem að þau fara skemmtilegar leiðir í flutningi og notast við allskyns tæki og tól til að kalla fram magnaðann hljóðheim. Elephant Stone - www.elephantstonemusic.com Prior to shipping off to Austin for SXSW madness, one of my dearest friends (and an incredible artist herself), Jennifer Quiroz, came to Nashville on business. Since she couldn't come with me to Austin, we decided to check out a showcase at The Basement which featured a lineup of artists that were also headed to SXSW. Elephant Stone was one band that really caught our attention with a 60's psych-pop dosed with indie rock. I may have caught a little bit of a high simply off the bewitching instrumental parts. [...]

[And so SXSW ends ... ] Elephant Stone (at Spill) — Strange that two names on the Saturday night calendar stirred fond memories of Britpop past. The first, Babe Rainbow (the title of a fantastic 1992 album by the House of Love), turned out to be a Vancouver DJ. Not in the mood for that, I scrambled to a Canadian showcase for Elephant Stone (the name of the Stone Roses' 1988 single), a Montreal five-piece toting a beautiful [...]

Loyal Divide OK - It's the calm before the storm, people. There are only a few days before the Springtime monster known as South by Southwest Festival awakens and all hell breaks loose. Despite the madness to come, we're proud to highlight a tiny portion of the excitement bubbling around the city this weekend. Our finest musical acts may be readying themselves for a full-on invasion of Austin, Texas, like the mighty Napoleon going to battle but first they must tread our stages once more. We've got two [...]

Elephant Stone is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Rishi Dhir, a founding member of Montreal pop/psyche veterans the High Dials. He also makes claim to be the sitar player for basically every outlaw psyche band out there (Black Angels, the Earlies, Hopewell, Brian Jonestown Massacre) The band has certainly been busy as a whole over the last few years.

Toronto - Another year, another Canadian Music Fest . From March 9 through to March 13, a whole lot of bands both Canadian and otherwise will be filling venues throughout the city. Here's a selection of the ones who caught our attention. Alcoholic Faith Mission : If you'll forgive the bad alcohol based pun, these Danes have had a good buzz going lately. Ricky wrote about them here . Alcoholic Faith Mission play Rancho Relaxo on March 9 @ 12:00 pm, The Dakota on March 11 [...]

Hello, nice to meet you all, I am Tiana from Ride the Tempo from a vast land up North called Canada. This bi-weekly feature will highlight some not so known Canadian talent. Since Canadian Music Week is coming next week, I thought I should point out some of the great artists that are going to present. I'm probably going to be the lone person at the thing because you all are going to be at SXSW of course. I'm lucky to be close to a musically active city as Toronto. We [...]
![The Jon Cohen Experimental – Behold [Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3087991_lg.jpg)
For those who follow the Montreal band The Dears. Feels like members who used to be in the band seem to leave and make their own band. You may have noticed an ex-member named Jon Cohen. He has his band called The Jon Cohen Experimental . The band released an album called "Behold". Its ten track of indie pop-rock experimentation sound. Don't forget that Jon Cohen Experimental will be playing Ottawa on Jan 6th with JF Robitaille and Loon Choir. For other cities across Canada and the [...]
