(photo: Liam Maloney) I don't think you can ever go wrong with jangle pop. Especially when it's done immaculately, jangle pop is just the epitome of all that's good and lovely in the world of music. You could sing teh daftest, darkest, direst of lyrics, but if it's set to a chiming guitar and taunt rhythm section it will sound like a breath of fresh air. I don't get to hear a lot of great guitar pop bands these days, so it was a pleasant surprise to discover Elephant Stone [...]

Who : Elephant Stone from Montreal. What : A song from the debut of Elephant Stone ( The Seven Seas ), a five-piece led by multi-instrumentalist, ex- High Dial and probably one of the nicest people I've ever met in the music industry, Rishi Dhir. Blending an obsession with perfect pop songs and the trippiest raga, The Seven Seas emerges from Rishi's back-catalogue of songs written over the years. While not recording his own, we've heard Rishi playing sitar on records by The Black Angels [...]

Rishi Dhir (vox, bass, sitar, geetar [sic]), formerly of The High Dials, and his fellow pachydermoliths* are set to release their debut LP, The Seven Seas, on 5 May. The picture gives a clue as to what to expect. The title cut, streamers at Elephant Stone's MySpace site, and other tracks we've heard suggest this could well be one of our favorite albums of the year. Thanks to Jesse at Killbeat

Okay, so you've got Batman , Obi Wan Kenobi (2.0), Lex Luthor , the Dude (or Tron , if you'd rather), T-1000 , and Jimmy James all in one movie , based on one of my favourite books by one of my favourite Randy Newman fans . All that's missing for 100% Pure Emmet Bliss is Clark Johnson ! Speaking of which, here's some new music from Montreal's Elephant Stone , led by former High Dials [...]

I've had my 13-year-old grandson visiting all week, so I have spent more time with him and less time on the Internets. We went hiking, and he can identify almost as many wildflowers as I can. My native flower garden (above photo) is at its peak now, so we dug up last year's vegetable garden and put in new plants for summer. Planting seeds is your faith that the future holds good things. He experienced the perils of country living: Wednesday we waited 45 minutes for a gopher snake to come off the rear axle [...]
We have the Montreal based band Elephant Stone for you. Like any talented band, they are influenced by several bands. If you listen right, you'll hear some experimental Beatles a touch. You'll hear early 90's northern soul most of the time. Yeah, weird combination right? ...
