Soul, gospel, rhythm and blues: all genres steeped in the spiritual struggle of ’60s America and all cannibalistically feasted upon for profit by artists like Joss Stone, Amy Winehouse, James Hunter and, of course, Eli “Paperboy” Reed . Come and Get It is Reed’s third album and first for a major label. Producer Mike Elizondo (Eminem, Gwen Stefani) has added an expensive, thick pop sheen over the raw momentum so skilfully captured by Ed Valauskas on previous album, Roll With You . With the raw passion of that second record capturing the attention [...]

Website I first came across Eli 'Paperboy' Reed and his band at a festival in the USA a couple of years ago. At the time they were promoting their album Roll With It, a combination of soul and blues which showcased Eli's powerful vocals. From a mid-afternoon slot on a small stage at that festival things have certainly come a long way in the last two years. This show was showcasing his first major label release Come And Get It , which at the same [...]

you know what i mean and i mean what i say, you know what i want and you know i don't play ♫ Eli "Paperboy" Reed - Explosions You'd never guess by his in-your-face soul/blues/rockabilly but Eli Reed grew up in Massachusetts. After soaking up all of his father's classic albums and honing his skills by busking on the street, it's no surprise that his talent is now razor sharp. Come And Get It is his 3rd LP but I've only just got on board Reed's train. First single, "Explosions," is [...]
Brooklyn-based soul singer Eli "Paperboy" Reed has already accomplished a lot in his short career. He's independently-released two albums, played Lollapalooza, and been nominated as a Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the 2009 Mojo Awards. Soon enough, he'll also be able to add a major label release to that list. On August 10th, Reed will unveil his third full-length effort, the 12-song Come And Get It , via Capitol Records in the U.S. (Our friends across the Atlantic will get it starting May 10th via EMI’s Parlophone label). [...]

Eli “Paperboy” Reed has his first single, the title track from his upcoming Capital debut “Come And Get It,” streaming over on his new site. Head over on over and enjoy , 100% guaranteed to make you shake and shout with delight. This dude used to live with a friend of mine in an Allston duplex many moons ago. After one listen, I had a feeling he’d hit it big. Glad to see my ears haven’t failed me.

Hailing from Brixton , Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe got their start as Basement Jaxx in 1994. While the duo may have gotten their start with UK chart-topper "Rendez Vu," from their first album, Remedy, they are better known for their singles "Where's Your Head At?" and "Do Your Thing" from their second album, Rooty (2001). In 2004, the group won the Best Electronic/Dance Album Grammy for Kish Kash . Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe can now add Scars to their list of marks. This revel of an album is beyond [...]
It's been a long time since 2003's Kish Kash . That is to say, if you were one of those who considered 2006's Crazy Itch Radio to be a mere transport point in the band's discography that didn't necessarily lead Basement Jaxx forward (this writer not included). I could go so far as to agree that the conceptual fourth album is their weakest full-length to date. Even though I do believe that the album did have its quirky points and distinctive charm, the lasting impact and "run over" feeling that their previous albums left the [...]

Basement Jaxx's upcoming album Scars leaked the other night and I'm giving it my first listen this evening, right in time for the weekend's festivities. It's a bit moodier than I thought, which is sounding pretty great right now. Here are a couple tracks I liked so far. Proper review soon. Click here to view the embedded video. Basement Jaxx is unleashing a new album, called Scars , that will feature a star-studded set of guests. Coming to us on October 6, the production duo’s fifth album has collaborations with Santigold , Yoko Ono , Kelis , Lightspeed Champion , Eli "Paperboy" Reed , and Yo! Majesty , just to drop a few names. While their last album, Crazy Itch Radio , “strayed too far into pop territory” as half of the duo, Simon [...]
"I wanted to record Yoko Ono," Basement Jaxx 's Felix Burton notes in a recent interview with Billboard.com . "That was the reason we went out there [to New York], and then Yo! Majesty and Santigold fell into place along with that." And that's only the beginning. For its fifth studio album, titled Scars and due for release in October via XL Recordings , the electro duo of Burton and Simon Ratcliffe, known to me and you as Basement Jaxx went exploring, choosing to abadon its London studios in favor of [...]

This one's for Rockin' Rik and anyone else who likes a good dose of old fashioned horn skronking juke-joint blues-soul. Eli Paperboy Reed came to my attention via his now legendary (in mine and Rik's house at least) performance on Later with Jools Holland. Pity he reminds me of that unfunny excuse for a ' comedian ', Jimmy Carr, but we can forgive him that, as Eli's only gone and recorded a cover of Motorhead's 'Ace Of Spades '. And put it [...]
Man kunne i fredags høre Basement Jaxx i studiet hos Pete Tong's Radio 1 Essential Mix .
So the Jaxx 's are currently working on a new full length, from which this track may appear. Currently you can find this on their " Planet 3 EP ". Basement Jaxx - She's No Good (Planet 3 Version) [Ft. Eli "Paperboy" Reed]
It's a bad week for those with the homophonic surname of Reed. Just received word from Off Broadway that Eli "Paperboy" Reed is "sick and has lost his voice," and so he won't be performing tonight. Op... Continue reading "Cancellations: Eli "Paperboy" Reed and Casey Reid" >
