A person named Hadders (if thats your real name) left this comment on our wall last week and it said... Hi EMPT, I've been following EMPT for the last 2 years and my welfare depends deeply on your LMdM mixes. They're unbelievable. Can't wait for the next one and thanks for the music..." That made my day and it got me going enough to wake up this morning and finally put together the September 2012 edition of LMDM and unbelievable would be the best way to describe it. [...]

You may already be familiar with producer Recycle Culture from his perfect, trance-y official Elite Gymnastics remix/cover (or from his stellar re-works for Korallreven, Grimes , and Julianna Barwick ). Here, on this breathlessly uplifting and cathartic rave-ready remix, he injects some hopeful energy into the xx's heartbreaking " Chained ," somehow maintaining all of the feeling the xx conjured on their spare/intimate original while taking the opposite approach. Download it, and his recent Chromatics night bus remix , below: mp3: the xx [...]

The El Rey crowd arrived early and packed in tightly on Wednesday night, the second of two sold out shows by electronic artist Grimes. Touted as “The Mythical Gymnastics Tour,” the first act of the evening would be fellow Canadians, Myths. The female duo dressed in elaborate costumes, and had colorful video projections as the backdrop, helping to set the mood by adding the initial layer of décor to the stage. The next act would be the eccentric Elite Gymnastics. Opening with a cover of a Spice Girls song, the one-man show lamented on equipment [...]
It was the first real taste of colder weather in Austin Saturday night, and I got the chance to see Grimes and accompanying acts on the Mythical Gymnastics tour at Emo's. Even though the show sold out weeks ago, the venue announced the release of 100 more tickets, allowing the already packed space to feel even more like a weekend night on the dance floor of Barbarella (which isn't a bad thing). More after the jump... First up was Vancouver duo Myths . Shrouded in veils and glittery capes, they took [...]
Date Saturday, October 6th Location Emos East Doors 9:00 PM Tickets SOLD OUT It's been an incredible year for Grimes , aka Claire Boucher, bursting onto the world indie scene with her latest album this year, Visions . While she's put out a few releases prior to this last effort, people are taking notice, and it's [...]
It's hump day. It's time to roll yourself into the latter part of the week. I have a busy day ahead of me, so let's get right into it, shall we. First up, you have Grimes, Elite Gymnastics, & Myths over at Mercy Lounge . If you are an electro pop fan, this is definitely the show for you. Maybe you can even get lucky and grab one of those almost creepy "pussy rings" that Grimes has started selling over at the merch table. You can have a listen to Grimes' "Genesis" below. [...]

Photograph by Ro Cemm Pop Montreal is the dream festival scenario for punters in a lot of ways. Over five nights, roughly four hundred acts are hosted in venues amongst the city’s charming sprawl. A lot of these are in or very close to the creative enclave of Mile End, where you can easily lose hours meandering in and out of cafes, record stores and vintage shops before the live music even gets going. There is a noticeable lack of tourists so you feel you are experiencing this beguiling [...]

Vancouver-born and Montreal-based Grimes—or Claire Boucher—played Toronto’s Lee’s Palace on September 21 st along with two opening acts. Myths (comprised of Lief Hall and Quinne Rodgers) kicked things off just after ten, stage decorated with fake flowers and instruments draped in gauzy white cloth. Wearing skeleton and flower themed outfits, the duo’s electro-pop performance seemed somewhat out of sync and at times offered a ruthless sensory explosion—such as when one of the girls picked up and danced with the strobe light, blinding the audience every three seconds. Next up was Elite Gymnastics, or James Brooks—the other [...]

I think as a general rule for concerts. if they’re selling pussy rings inside, then you know you’re in for a good time. At the Union Transfer Thursday night, all the local hipsters, weirdos, and goth kids piled in to check out witch house act Grimes. Having minimal experience with Grimes beforehand, I went in not entirely knowing what to expect. As soon as Grimes first stroked her synth though, she cast her spell of gothic electronica and entranced me into her creepy cocoon. Opening up the set was Grimes’ [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive , New Music , Music Appreciation , New Releases Simon Joyner, Getty Arguably the most anticipated show at Pop Montreal this year was the sold-out Grimes gig. Prefaced by many as a "shit show", many festival pass holders and ticket-less fans scrambled to get there early and grab a spot inside Montreal's Club Soda to catch the Polaris Prize contender.
A Quick Word from the Author: If there are any ambitious students out there looking for a fun, non-paying internship this fall/winter, drop me an email — please be honest with yourself though, because I need someone who is diligent, in-tune with the "Indie Scene," and who is honestly doing this for the opportunity rather than just for the fun factor. Essentially, I'm looking for someone to help me make the Sabbath a weekly feature for about 2/3 months. I'm pretty [...]

So summer, and consequently, my travels are pretty much a wrap at this point, and it seemed only appropriate to show some love for the folks who have been soundtracking both of them. Given the fact that internet isn't always consistent in the particular corner of the world where I've been spending time, this edition is by no means exhaustive of all the great shit out there that's been dropping. I suppose I can't ever really say that anyway. But fuck it. Among the highlights here are some particularly sumptuous, groovy ass offerings from some cool ass, artsy women, like [...]
For the third year running Cartoon Networks lovably creepy sibling network Adult Swim has put together a collection of songs from some of their favorite artists. The Singles Program features 12 tracks from 12 artists over 12 weeks all for free download and paired with some strange yet entertaining artwork. Check out our favorites with Wye Oak, [...]
