There's exactly two weeks left until Election Day. For your pleasure, a pre-election playlist to pump you up for pulling the lever. And, in the spirit of the upcoming political throwdown, JamsBio is holding its own musical election. Vote now! "Vote, Baby, Vote!" by Deee-Lite [See post to listen to audio] A funky public service announcement with great drum breaks. [...]
You may have noticed that a few songs from our last post included some nursery rhymes in their lyrics. This time we continue that theme, with several songs crafted almost entirely out of nursery rhymes. "A-Tisket, A-Tasket" by Chick Webb & his Orchestra with Ella Fitzgerald From the compilation Ella Fitzgerald Golden Greats "A-Tisket, A-Tasket" lyrics Ella Fitzgerald was a professional singer for over sixty years, and was one of the greatest jazz singers ever. She was originally discovered at an Amateur [...]

Another album that's been out for a bit but has been gaining notches on my iTunes the past few weeks. Luckily, a co-worker reminded me that I needed to take another listen to this classic. Starting in 2002, Verve Music Group has been leading the Verve Remixed project, combining classic songs of the yesteryear's and gathering some of the finest DJs and producers to have a little fun with them. Some of the names on both ends of the various remixes have included Thievery Corporation, RJD2, Lyrics Born, James Brown, Danger Mouse [...]

Filed under: Around the World Spinner.com : Diversity? We love it. Most fans of international music dive headlong into the smorgasbord of offerings from all over the world, craving tastes of something from everywhere. But diversity in individual artists? That's another matter. Many said global... Read more

Ella Fitzgerald - "Stairway to the Stars" You shouldn't destroy what you can't rebuild, like the earth, or the stars, a stairway from here to there. (Maybe we could rebuild the stairway but personally I wouldn't risk it. Because hey, that's where heaven is! On rungs, on beams! On hands and feet! Perilous! Off-balance! Lovely, lovely!) -------------------- It would be heaven to climb to heaven with you. [...]
gorgeous! Estelle has been on the receiving end of great reviews and acclaim since releasing her second album 'Shine' this year, but now the singer has revealed which other artists get her attention. The British R&B star has now compiled her top 15 tracks and also spoken a little about each song. 1 - Stevie Wonder - Seems So Long. "A good friend of mine put me on to this song...its one of the realest lyrics ever written" [...]

This old classic was a pretty big hit for the blog, considering most people are looking for mp3s of the biggest hits most of the time. Nice to know people out there were feeling this one too. From November '07. Number 13...
I have no photo for you today, (if gas prices were not so exorbitant, I could drive farther in the service of hunting up some good pictures, but oh noooooo...) but I do have some songs I've been feeling lately. Diane Keaton - Seems Like Old Times The provenance of this, I have no idea. An online buddy sent it to me on a mix cd (Thanks again, Emily!) and I love it. Elvis Presley - Change of

This post, a hybrid of little-heard album tracks and past hits, represents a lot of change in my life right now. In the past week, and over the next few weeks, I have a whole lot of goodbyes to say. I'm leaving work (my first paying job in a while), and many old friends, to return to school after a summer break. In that spirit, I've rounded up a handful of goodbye songs. It's nearly enough for a full mixtape, but unlike the actual Mixtape series, I haven't picked them out to work as a cohesive set of [...]
by donatello spinx So Frances England apparently makes music for kids. So it's not surprising that I kind of like it. Not only am I still 12 years old, I think intelligent media content for children can save the world. Don't get me started.. CHARLIE PARKER BY FRANCES ENGLAND:

MP3: Marlena Shaw - California Soul (Diplo/Mad Decent remix) MP3: Ella Fitzgerald - I Get A Kick Out Of You (Cinematic Orchestra remix) In the past, I've noticed these Verve Remixed series sticking out on the shelves, but personally had little interest in them. [...]

Ella Fitzgerald I Got It Bad

"Ooo Baby Baby" "Savoy Truffle" by ELLA FITZGERALD: It's pretty much indisputable that Ella was possibly the greatest jazz vocalist of all time. I like to imagine alien civilizations coming to Earth long after we've extinguished the human race and stumbling upon her rendtions of The Great American Songbook. If this is the only evidence they find of our existence, they will be rightfully fooled into thinking our culture was deep, luscious, delicate and advanced beyond words. Hell, I'd be happy to know they stumbled upon her 1969 album Ella , which features Fitzgerald [...]

Now that Memorial Day, the unofficial start of summer in the US, is in our rear mirror, it's time for some summertime music. Here's a repost from last year - judging by the stats it was one of the more popular posts at snuhthing/anything, so enjoy! When I was a kid in New York City, a sure sign the summer was about to start was when the local top forty radio station, WABC (now all news), played the Jamies paean to the season. Last year, Chris from Locust St, gave his read on Summertime, Summertime [...]

Made this mix for The Duchess right after Duke Jr. was born. The Dairy Barn was my nickname for the breastfeeding mother. Of course, while she was pregnant, I called her The Vessel . I am strange, aren't I? 1. Tommy Dorsey ∞ Opus One 2. Bing Crosby ∞ Swing On A Star 3. Jimmy Dorsey ∞ Amapola 4. Benny Goodman ∞ Tea For Two 5. Count Basie ∞ [...]
