the deal is off, the time is wrong, the moments gone ♫ Entrepreneurs - Revenge Platter By the time Elle Milano had made it to TBE's Best Of 2008 list the band had already broken up. Luckily, former band-member Adam A. Crisp went on to make gritty, steamy, funky, dancey jams under the name Entrepreneurs. "Revenge Platter" is bedroom-funk for sexy people that should be on your 'late-nite' mixtape. "Infinity" kicks things up a bit with spitfire drumming, fuzzed out guitars, and Adam's pained singing hurtling the track along. Driving music, [...]

The Premarital Sect From: London and South East United Kingdom The restless Adam Crisp, former mainstay of Elle Milano , isn't content with being a remixer extraordinaire under the pseudonym ENTREPRENEURS (as featured on last night's blog) he's also one third of London contrarians The Premarital Sect. On the evidence of the demos on their website The Premarital Sect are provocative, [...]

Penguin Prison From: New York, United States Penguin Prison is the brainchild of New York's one-man hit machine Chris Glover who fuses pop, soul, rock 'n' roll and disco like a musical genius with a blowtorch. With critics comparing his sound to NYC dirty disco veterans like LCD Soundsystem and Talking Heads it won't be long before the world will be p-p-p-picking up a Penguin. [...]

ENTREPRENEURS MYSPACE HOMETOWN: Yately, UK One of those acts that broke up before the world got to realize their genius was the act formerly known as ELLE MILANO . Right as they were turning into a band we wanted to cut off a hand to see live, they dismantled the group. From those ashes comes the latest from the man known as Adam Crisp called ENTREPRENEURS . Crisp has upped his game [...]
This year Entrepreneurs will finally step into the limelight, and finally wow all the people that should have been wowed long ago. Let me just start by directing you to Entrepreneurs' SoundCloud , where there are 6 free downloads. All perfect. Start with 'Infinity' or 'Gare du Nord' - download, play, and read this. Entrepreneurs is, of course, the brain child of Adam Crisp who some of you will remember as the ex-frontman of our personal favourite band Elle Milano, who split at the tale end of 2008. Entrepreneurs started out as a side project, with the [...]

A few months ago, I read the ultimate graphic novel, Alan Moore's Watchmen. It is indeed an amazingly good book. I don't normally cross over other media into this music based blog, but Watchmen is a story I read and can see it cinematically as well as imagining a great soundtrack to accompany it. I've seen the film yet, read first though as I thought it would be sacrilege to see it before i had read the novel. Although good, I have to admit that I was disappointed by it as a whole. It misses out major parts of the [...]

Two years since I started this. Two years since I heard this. Elle Milano - Believe Your Own Hype. Always (2007 mix) shattered satellite is now on hypem. This shit is about to go up a level. /// http://www.shatteredsatellite. com/

Gare du Nord only made me feel like that when I kept missing the fucking trains. Entrepreneurs - Gare du Nord ///download more of Entrepreneurs crooked hiphop glory here. ///interview here

Myspace // "A Zillion Million Ameros" [Audio] Since Elle Milano parted ways late last year, former frontman Adam Crisp has only gotten busier. He's been involved with several remixes, has two electronic projects, and a more traditional band, the Premarital Sect. He's been fooling around in one of those electronic projects for a number of years, and it seems as though that 2009 has really seen his vision be fully realized. Electronica is not all about partying, and Crisp understands that this only [...]
![[JBI!] TBE Presents: Fever For The Flavor – A Mix for L.A.](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1811395_lg.jpg)
Los Angeles, the city of a million legends and a million disappointed tourists. Its too big to take in by foot and too confusing and traffic-packed to really see by car. It really isn't a city at all, but more of a collection of cities that all happen to touch each other and give the illusion of being unified. However, while the city/ies may be sprawling and disjointed, they share a role as muse for great music. As I have simmered here this past two weeks I have been compiling my list of great L.A. songs. Some tribute, some complaint, [...]

"Snuff Scene" [Audio] On what felt like the verge of mainstream acceptance, Elle Milano broke up. At the time, it was heart-breaking for one of my favorite bands to split, especially after a handful of brilliant singles and an absolutely amazing debut album, but since there was nothing I could do about it, I tried to think about the positives. I did get to see the band play twice, both at last year's Great Escape. And when considering their output, they pretty much went out on top, with [...]

photo: jcoterhals And then there was one. An introduction so surely stolen from the moment in The Matrix when some kind of zen is reestablished. A riff so jaggedy it deserves cutting out with that special type of scissor glued to a paper piano. Lyrics spat out like Juicy Fruit by a voice weighed down with similar disdain, yet capable of floating falsetto. A crunching chorus with what almost sounds like raspberries. A few ascending moments of guitar calm, a call and response paced at John Barnes [...]

photo: iamthebestartist As much as I consider myself an Elle Milano aficionado, it's possible to miss a trick. I certainly failed to appreciate this first time round, as the band hurtled towards implosion. A caustic musing on the futility of the b-side. Despair and hope mingling around an ironic core; perhaps the sound of a band realizing they are banging their head against a brick wall and not knowing how to react. It could also be about any relationship. The guitar work leads me to believe this is the missing [...]

Myspace // "Offensive Coordinator" [Audio] Although it's been a few months since Brighton trio Elle Milano called it quits, it doesn't mean we've stopped mourning them in the Exitfare office. Their legend has only grown, from us waxing nostalgic about the two gigs we caught from them at the Great Escape last year to Beth commenting to me today about good Psirens were. It's obvious that Adam Crisp, a member of both of those outfits, has something quite special going on in the [...]
Bless my cotton sock I'm in the hottest blog section Well my blog rose a little in the stakes of hypem by getting to 2nd on the hottest blog list, for about a day, it's still currently dominated by, I must admit, awesome blog The Tape . I have to celebrate this, once I'm at the top, I'll be happy, but every step closer is something goood. Here's some celebratory music Happy Days Theme Tune Best theme tune ever? The Teardrop [...]

photo: today is a good day I honestly don't have a clue what I'm talking about. This isn't a list, it's a discussion. Elle Milano's Acres of Dead Space Cadets was the album of 2008. It is a record destined forever to be a cult classic. A record defined by contradictory attitudes. Complete disdain for rock 'n' roll and the industry coupled with a thrilling example of the possibilities of rock 'n' roll in the 21st century. It leaves [...]
Before we start the top ten countdown, here's a few songs that might've made it onto the list if I'd heard them in time: The GASLIGHT ANTHEM - The '59 Sound, The HOLD STEADY - Sequestered In Memphis, M83 - Graveyard Girl, SHE & HIM - Why Do You Let Me Stay Here.#10: DAN LeSAC vs SCROOBIUS PIP - Letter To God From ManGreat song from a largely disappointing album. Any song that samples Radiohead

The last mixtape of 2008, and it's late. I know- but I was without my laptop this week, making it difficult to pull all the pieces together (and perhaps a little too partied out to even think about mixes). Anyway, this is the last mixtape of 2008, the third year that I've done the whole SFFM thing! It's hard to believe that it's been going this long. Though I didn't really get started until February or March the first year, I'll be rolling over the 200's next week to create volume 301! I'll try to be on time [...]

A s long as it's still 2008 we can still chat about end of year lists and bury ourselves under music. This time round it's tracks, not albums. It ends up different from the albums list, just because there were a lot of albums in '08 with the one classic tune amongst average ones. This is where they end up, we haven't forgotten about you. Here they are, in some rough order. Some people argue that 2008 didn't have songs that will be remembered past this year. Some people are argumentative xx 50. [...]
