And why not? This might be the best idea yet :) I kind of missed the recap - especially since I've been showcasing really nice songs as of late. I'm not posting the songs here though, too much effort - so it'd be best to visit the site everyday if you want a link for a download (if you don't know it yet, yer lyric of the day songs up top on the right side there can be downloaded by a simple right-click and Save As). If you missed hearing the song though, our dear old Facebook page [...]

This is my attempt at making some sort of art in our weekly album cover feature. I wanted it to look like a rainbow, but didn't have enough rows for it...so a multicolor stripe was the end result. Three primaries and green. It ain't that bad. The music from these albums are better though. There's more to check out if you go clickety-click on them too.

I never really had time to get to know Elle S'appelle very well as a band. Within mere weeks of me discovering them (and declaring them a Great British Hope no less) they decided to call it a day. It was certainly a shame as there was a lot of talent there, but it didn't overly bother me given the time frame involved. Of course, the inevitable question now is exactly how all of this connects to today's band, Liverpool's Hallo... I Love You!. Well it's actually just that one of the members of this band was in that band. [...]

I get the occasional email from readers, and a couple of times recently I've been asked, in passing, why I started this blog. There were loads of reasons at the time, but in the main it boiled down to the fact that having installed broadband in the house (around three years ago this week) I could now browse the world wide web seeking out songs of old, and I decided on a whim that this was something I wanted to do myself. So Mrs Villain bought me a USB turntable one day and told me to [...]

This exact time twelve months ago I made five 'Next Big Thing' predictions, settling on five newfangled bands to wangle themselves some kind of indie success over the year. So, in the words of the rather irksome cheesy DJ/presenter Vernon Kay, 'Our Survey Said…' Elle S'appelle – At one point, these were the most exciting band in Liverpool. A single out on Moshi Moshi, hometown gigs every other week, a few plays on Zane, a feature in NME – Only all went tits up when one-third [...]

What. The. Fuck? I go away to Edinburgh (which brought new meaning to the word "wet") then find out one of my favourite bands of the last year or so have packed it in after ONE single. Proponents of BossPop along with fellow Liverpudlians goFASTER>>, Elle s'appelle were one of the most exuberant and amazingly catchy trios about. Oft compared to Canadian twosome Mates Of State, the thrillingly infectious synth pop of Elle S'appelle saw them release their first (and last) single, 'Little [...]
Great British Hopes features band that are great, British, and fill us with hope for the future of music. Or something like that. Cheerful, upbeat songs with melodies that go all over the place. Throw in some random shouting and handclaps. No, the result is not Los Campesinos! for once (more on them [...]
It's been raining all day here in Sweden and I'm bored out of my skull, so in an attempt to cure myself I thought I'd share some good songs. MP3: Tapes 'n Tapes - "The Dirty Dirty" MP3: Elle S'appelle - "Honestly" MP3: Prototypes - "Clap Your Hands" MP3: Or, The Whale [...]
There's little under ten hours to go until the gates open at Glastonbury. For the first time in over fifteen years the festival hasn't sold out in advance. Michael Eavis claims it is due to the dreadful weather of the last couple of years, but most would put it down to a lacklustre headline and [...]
It's a little surprising that we seemed to miss Liverpool's Elle s'appelle back when the buzz originally started humming (or buzzing , if you must) through the world's wireless connections. In one of our rushes of occasional posting we must have forgotten to pay closer attention, though we do remember reading about them in the Guardian at that time. However, this fault has been rectified, thanks to the Moshi Moshi singles compilation ( buy it !), and it's just as well it worked that way. Little Flame, Elle s'appelle's first [...]

(via Muxtape). :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ::: Side A (Cliquez sur la K7 pour jouer la playlist) :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ::: [...]

Another set that should have been posted a couple of weeks ago. Enjoy. 01. The Cribs - " Don't You Want To Be Relevant? " ( buy ). Seriously, this is what their B-sides sound like?!?!? It's amazing. I love the way this one kicks right in and even though I don't quite get these lyrics, I do love the " your onstage antics out in Leeds were tailor-made to suit men's needs ". [...]
Welcome to the all new and improved Shout and Twist ! Along with this brand new and highly swanky design, there's even a new objective around here. See, even though I'll still be putting an emphasis on all-things Liverpool, more bands and artists from all over the place will now get featured, each with their own sneaky download. So, what better way to start than by slapping the 'Next Big Thing' label on five of the alternative world's upcoming stars... Elle S'appelle Three-piece [...]
So Zane played em on Monday night as part of his Fresh Meat thang, and they won! That's right, Liverpool's bestest three-piece since, er, The Wombats, and their ace ace ace new single 'Little Flame' was given some proper actual amazing exposure. Not only that but I told the bassist/singer man from the band the very same night that they were 'Really good', and he was like 'Cheers'. But you see, they're way better then 'really good'. I mean they're really really good. So now after some Zane-time, compliments from me, and some great singles in the bag; this can [...]
The last time we visited the Merseyside area of northwest England for music, we were delighted to find a band whose presence has since received plenty of attention [July 2006 review + download]. This time around we have another wonderful find in a guitarless trio of artists who might just be the new darlings of an area that is constantly submerged in great musical

MP3: Elle S'appelle - She sells sea shells It's just relentless, and about as grand as is possible from three indie-popsters only 73 days old. There's so many levels to it all, and absolutely no walk-through. Elle S'appelle sing their melodies best when leaning a little too far out of old, wide open windows, then tumbling down old creaky stairs when they the see hail coming down in the summertime, adding a whole new dimension to the water fight going on in the streets below. It's fun and very very [...]
