I had to make this post because I just love Ellen Allien! I mean sure she is one of the many artists who are responsible for minimal house (which at times sounds like shit), but I do have in my possession 2 of Ellen's earlier works which I found to be very interesting and enjoyable! Plus she holds a certain beauty within herself. Not only in music, but her perfect Porcelain skin (having a
Ellen Allien & Apparat – "Way Out" As two of my favorite sound engineers, Ellen Allien and Apparat make a beautiful musical pair. After listening to their individual 2008 albums, I still come back to their Orchestra of Bubbles project. I'm very much in love with it forever. The song "Way Out" is exactly what it says, and this impressive animation by Gaia Bracco is strangely mesmerizing. Just before the story literally takes flight, I'm reminded of Dalí's Metamorphosis of Narcissus . I think Ellen is singing "way [...]

Serious Faces For Serious Music: Modeselektor XLR8R Magazine in their ongoing quest to serve you the next chapter in the development of life, i mean, music, offers yet another excellent Podcast. And this time around, it features one of our favorites here in the sunny-delight office of FroWheel, Modeselektor , who will also be featured in the new Speaking In Code documentary--go see the trailer.... I think this may be the movie to help bring a better understanding of the power of electronic music, mainly techno, and how it [...]
Since the official release of Ellen Allien's album "SooL" (BPC175), everybody knows the catchy hookline of the track "Elphine". Visitors with regular attendance on the BPitch Control homepage couldn't miss it. With catalogue number BPC181 "Elphine" is now available as 123. BPitch Control artists Zander VT and the American Troy Pierce purify this track with their special Remixes. Three big [...]

Berlin's Ellen Allien is one of the hardest-working women in the electronic music scene (she DJ's, runs her own record label, produces, and remixes). Recently, she came out with 'Sool', a brilliant album in the more 'minimal' vein. With production help from fellow Berlinette and electronic musician, AGF , Allien delivers the goods and continues to push the envelope as well as solidifying herself as one of THE prominent techno producers out there today. MP3: Ellen Allien- Bim [...]

We've followed with interest via MySpace bulletins and email updates for seemingly all three years of its incubation the progress of the electronic music documentary "Speaking In Code," . Hell, we even threw in a small amount of cash during one of their pleas for funding. So we were pleased when it was announced last month that the film was complete. "Speaking In Code" is the labor of love of Boston filmmaker Amy Grill, who is the partner of electronic music impresario and music critic David Day. The theme conveyed by the trailer -- paraphrased anyway -- [...]
Welcome to the Ellen Allien world. Following up to "Sprung/Its" (BPC176) and without any delays, here is the second single off of Ellen Allien´s successfull album "SooL" (BPC175). With catalogue number BPC178 we present the long awaited remixes for "Out". Nobody else than BPitch Newcomer Thomas Muller and Texas-born Matthew Dear aka Audion are responsible for the remix duties on this one. Artist ...... [...]

It's very possible it's too warm in Georgia for me to love ice-fracture split-hair minimal right now, regardless of how lush the undercurrents and how warm the snares. As such, I can't wrap myself in Ellen Allien's recently-released Sool just yet...and if you know me, dear reader, you know what a tough, tender, delicate admission that is for me to make. I am ready to make no final call, though; no "official" review or declaration of quality (or lack of) has yet come from my several early-morning and late-night listens. [...]

Der Kalifornier Flying Lotus kreiert karge Beat-Landschaften. Fast noch spartanischer ist das neue Album der Berlinerin Ellen Allien ausgefallen. (more...)

Finally, something to spice up the general monotony of Perth nightlife - a night devoted to reasonably monotonous Germanic techno. Yay! Tonight down at Shape we have all three of the above mentioned Berliners swinging through town for a 'Beck's Fusion' session - close to the only proper techno evening this town has seen in a good solid year or so. I didn't manage to frequent any of the famous Berlin clubs in my brief time there, which I kinda regret now, but hey, I'm sure this will recreate the non-stop 24 hour party mayhem that is a night out [...]

This Tuesday, Ellen Allien relased her fourth album, "Sool" . Although it is an electronic album, it is not exactly what you would expect from this German Goddess of DJing. It is an extremely dark and minimalist journey ranging from songs consisting of street and diner background sounds with barely any beat or instrumental music ( "Einsteigen" ), to songs with disparate vocals and weird whistling tones ( "Elphine" ), to tracks with pulsating bass and space noises ( "Its" ). This is by no means a dance album. You won't be hearing this in [...]

This weekend is going to be massive. First on Friday night is The Whip at Shape. 8-Bit rock at its finest that you can dance your ass off to. Riding the tidal wave of dance rock, get ready to be whipped into shape, ha sometimes I surprise myself. The Whip - Sister Siam (James Rutledge Remix) The Whip - Dubsex Saturday night is the seven headed - 56 fingered juggernaut that is !!! rolls [...]

Another week, another Mercury music section to read after you play Grand Theft Auto IV for over 25 hours in a row . I hope you finally rescued the princess from that mean 'ole Bowser . Same game, right? Ellen Allien knocks down the Berlin Wall, and torches Detroit, to claim her position atop the club music throne. Okay, maybe she did it with less violence. MP3: Ellen Allien - Caress DON'T GO INTO THE WOODS! [...]
German techno wasn't something that I ever expected to embrace - so I suppose I had to come at it a back-route via the catchier realms of Erlend Øye singing 80s pop over Kompakt microhouse tracks or Apparat's 3 minute electro-glitch anthems. Apparat was my entree to Ellen Allien, the brains behind cooler-than-cool label Bpitch Control. Allien is getting some attention for her new DJ mix Boogybytes Vol. 4 and will no doubt get some more when her latest artist release Sool sees daylight shortly. And she worked with Apparat on the brilliant [...]
