Ellen and the Escapades head into a crypt and come out with a folksy cover of Robert Palmer's 'Addicted To Love.' Yes, a crypt.

With a voice that rises from a slow-smoked, raspy whisper, frontwoman Ellen Smith leads this Leeds band of mellow folk/rockers on All The Crooked Scenes , the promising full-length debut from Ellen and the Escapades arriving April 16 in the U.K. Reminiscent at time of a more low-keyed K.T Tunstall , the melodies are graceful, the moods at turns pensive and briskly no-nonsense as track such as "Coming Back Home" glide by on a luxuriant bed of acoustic picking and dense keyboard layers, initially stripped [...]

Imagine the scene; a secluded dwelling owned by a playwright and writer, in a remote Scottish village. The intoxicatingly expensive red wine is flowing heavily whilst the writer and her friend are discussing books, music and art as the rain pounds down on the dark isolated streets outside. This is the scene where Breaking More Waves finds itself right now. However, whilst we're away the blog posts continue, including our usual weekly round up of songs that got away, on what we call The [...]

Facebook / ellenandtheescapades.com/ I'm behind the times with Ellen and the Escapedes , other than the knowledge she won the Glastonbury Emerging Talent contest in 2010 I'd gone no further with the five piece until I listened to their forthcoming single 'When The Tide Creeps In' (which is due for digital release October 24th), it certainly was enough to pull me in. Ellen has this commanding vocal, dusky, warm and gorgeous, the country tinged "When the Tide Creeps In" sweeps along with delicious melodies and passionate vocals. It's beautifully put together [...]

Their elegant and beautiful brand of folk pop is tantalising and fresh, and it's seen them garner the attention of everyone from Lauren Laverne to Stornoway so far. The band [...]

West Yorkshire folk-pop five piece Ellen and the Escapades; Ellen Smith (Vocals, Acoustic), Chris Quick (Keys, Vocals), James Warrender (Drums), Andy Calder (Bass), and Jeff Schneider (Guitar), has managed to create a sound that oozes nostalgia, without being outdated. Being highly influenced by legendary songwriters such as Bob Dylan and Carole King, as well as contemporary Indie acts like, The Coral and Cat Power, Ellen and the Escapades have found a happy medium with their tight, down to earth, organic sound. Whiskas, founder of Dance to the Radio, writing for the Leeds Guide thought of their music as having "a [...]
