Sasquatch! 2013 (May 24-27, 2013) The lineup for the 2013 Sasquatch! Music Festival (May 24-27, 2013) dropped this morning/last night with a bomb. Headliners for this year’s festival include: Mumford & Sons, The Postal Service, The xx, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis and Vampire Weekend . For my money, this is a pretty great looking festival lineup. (If I were a betting man, I'd say this one will sell out even faster than any year's past.) Four day Sasquatch Festival passes go on sale to the general public on Feb [...]

Every Memorial Day, I think about a flying to Portland and making the drive to Washington for Sasquatch. I haven't been this "jazzed" about a festival lineup in quite some time due to the amount of music festivals making the rounds. It's probably the most complete lineup (headliners not included) and the Postal Service is near the top. SASQUATCH! MUSIC FESTIVAL SETS LINEUP FOR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND (MAY 24-27, 2013) AT THE GORGE FESTIVAL PASSES ON SALE FEBRUARY 9 (10AM PST) AT SASQUATCHFESTIVAL.COM Mumford & Sons, The Postal Service, [...]

photo by Brittney Bollay ( view set ) You can't help but note the stylization of their name: Elliott BROOD . The Toronto-area trio practically over emphasize their music's dark tendencies but it's with a touch of comedy that's always present in their stage shows . It's the one of the reasons KEXP DJs and listeners have loved the band for so long: though their subject matter can be gravely serious, they never take themselves too seriously and stomp around like it's an end-of-the-world hootenanny. Their most recent album, Days Into Years , [...]

Elliott Brood's Facebook After playing shows on five previous New Year's Eves, Elliott Brood singer Casey Laforet let someone else in the family take center stage on Monday night as his son became the first baby born in Toronto this year. The Toronto Star reports Wynn Christopher Laforet was born at St. Michael's Hospital at exactly midnight. "They told me it was [...]

The bar gets set high early with The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Quasi at the Crocodile on Tuesday night. Elliott BROOD, a Canadian trio made up of Mark Sasso, Casey Laforet, and Stephen Pitkin, graced Minneapolis this past Monday with a riveting set at the 7th Street Entry. These guys are a little bit down home meets a lot bit urban farming. Mark has pleasantly rugged and raspy vocals wonderfully complemented by Casey’s harmonies. Also, the amount of dad humor coming from the stage was perfect for a Monday night. The best part about Elliott Brood live is the use of instruments; at any given time a banjo, kazoo, or ukulele might have not just made an appearance, but [...]

Wintersleep & Elliott Brood w/ CAETANI Monday, November 5 2012 7pm // 18+ // $10 adv $12 door 7th Street Entry

by Tiana Feng After the soup festival, Wintersleep was conveniently playing an early all ages show at Danforth Music Hall. Opening the night was folkie Elliott Brood who performed such favourites like Northern Air . Elliott Brood- Northern Air - Wintersleep 's set followed. Though there were parts that were audibly sloppy, they played new and old songs with great enthusiasm. The funnest member [...]

METZ – Headache [mp3] (from METZ , out now on Sub Pop ) Power sludge-punk trio from Toronto took five years to hone their craft before attempting to render it to wax – the inscrutable power that they’ve harnessed would make Ian MacKaye smile. [...]

Paper Bag Records is celebrating their 10th anniversary being into the Canadian Music scene. With that, they are celebrating it with three nights of shows at the Great Hall. Here is the first night of PBR10. Luke LaLonde started off the show with his solo set. For different from what we are used to with Born Ruffians. Simply Luke with a guitar and loop pedals. Felt the songs was more emotional and made me want to cry. The solo material he sang will be part of [...]

Like adolescents changing their outward appearance and inward thinking as part of their search for their identity, Elliot Brood have elected to shift their musical consciousness and plug in their guitars for their third full-length release, Days Into Years. It is a bit of a curious decision seeing as how Mountain Meadows , which was firmly rooted in the roots, was short-listed for the 2009 Polaris Music Prize . Whatever the reason for the change, the result is a record that is almost unrecognisable as an Elliot Brood disc. This [...]

Paper Bag Records have given up a free sampler of tracks titled The 2012 Loss Leader . It features Cuff The Duke's beautiful new single Side By Side (feat. Basia Bulat ) off their upcoming release, Union , out in October, and also includes new singles from The Luyas and Slim Twig as well as the debut single from Luke Lalonde of Born Ruffians. One of our own favourites, the wonderful Elliott Brood also feature with their inimitable [...]

Paper Bag Records is turning ten. That's old enough to be in Grade 5. Old enough to be learning exponents. Half as old as most of the hip hop references Shane and I make on a daily basis. Anyway, to celebrate the good people at PBR are throwing a three night festivus (tickets for all three nights can be found here ) and we are giving away a shit ton of stuff from their secret lair and access to the Friday night showcase. Free vinyl? Free tickets? Boom, ya pregnant . Here's what's [...]

Here in the US, Labor Day weekend came and went. I'd say it caught us with our pants down, but then I'd be lying. Those last bits of summer were good to absorb, but the grind that is our profession (this blog is our avocation) demands attention. So excuse the layoff... Today, we have a mish-mash of new videos, mp3s and streams to consider from Grass House, Elliott Brood, Turrentine Jones, and Two Door Cinema Club. Grass House - "The Boredom Rose" Grass House is back with a [...]
