If you haven't heard of this oddly punctuated band yet, you're either someone who doesn't listen to the radio/watch TV or you are oblivious. Fun.'s music has been featured in two super bowl commercials in the last two years... it's hard to miss these guys. Yet, the true calamity in all of this is the neglect of their first album, Aim and Ignite . Largely written as a Format project, Fun's debut is a dazzling display of progressive pop... I'm not sure it's rock. But, it's definitely progressive, so I'm calling it progressive pop (think [...]

ELO : Momma... [Purchase] On February 1st 1973 Electric Light Orchestra appeared on Top of The Pops to play "Roll Over Beethoven", the band's Top 10 single from their forthcoming second album ELO 2 . The album isn't an easy listen--with overly orchestrated, overlong progressive monstrosities not the least of which is the eight minute album version of the single. ELO founder Roy Wood left the band during the recording, leaving Jeff Lynne behind as the main songwriter. Lynne's Beatlesque feel would pay [...]

The ELO mothership hovers over the world's most symmetrical city skyline - Jeff Lynne must have produced it. Trust me: I don't post a song by Electric Light Orchestra here lightly. I have some very negative feelings for ELO leader Jeff Lynne, which are primarily - no, almost exclusively - connected with his efforts as a producer/destroyer of other people's music. He manages to take artists as great as Tom Petty, George Harrison, Dave Edmunds, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison - even the Beatles, for cryin' out loud (the "Free As a Bird" single [...]
As Jools Holland put it himself, the "one and only Jeff Lynne" was invited to chit chat last week with the popular pianist/composer/bandleader turned TV host on his show Later... with Jools Holland. What he didn't know is there were actually several more Jeff Lynnes - 3 more to be specific - ...

The Point Of No Return ". Este es el tracklist completo: 1. 'Mr. Blue Sky' 2. 'Evil Woman' 3. 'Strange Magic' 4. 'Don’t Bring Me Down' 5. 'Turn To Stone' [...]

Don't be misled by the title of this post: I've been laughing out loud for most of my life. In fact, I do it at least five times a day, sometimes in public, for no apparent reason. But LOL? I'm afraid that's a relatively new phenomenon for me. I probably would have started doing it much earlier, if I'd known WTH it was. The first time I stumbled upon it was about 15 years ago, at the dawn of the email era, back when "You've got mail" still meant that the postman was at the door. (In [...]

Three new snippet releases in the last day. What is Chaz Lewis up to? Is he simply fiddling around with new sounds or is something greater in the works? One can only hope the latter; his laggy glitch-sampled tunes are sorely missed. Here is the best of the three. ┴ Tweet
School is Cool give us a reason to explore their album ‘Entropology’ with their first UK single release. A bittersweet dose of masterful baroque-pop, the Belgians celebrate 2012’s alleged Mayan apocalypse early with ‘The World Is Gonna End Tonight’. Sprightly strings wrestle with downbeat vocals as lead singer Johannes Genard contemplates the futility of petty [...]

We here at MOR have always been Electric Light Orchestra fans. Maybe it's Jeff Lynne's awesome frizzy hair/sunglasses combo, or his involvement with The Traveling Wilburys or his stellar production credits, but regardless this man knows late 702s space pop rock music better than most (a specific yet, ever important genre). With plenty of well known hits under their belt ELO's music is just begging to be covered and luckily Jack and White were up to the task. The folk-pop duo, consisting of Jack Matrango and Brooke White, teamed up with Fitz of Fitz and the Tantrums fame to churn [...]

I have never loved Beastie Boys as much as I probably should. And I think it's a bit premature to be celebrating the trio's entire body of work, or Red Hot Chili Peppers', for that matter -- at least not before bestowing such an honor on Linda Ronstadt and ELO (Electric Light Orchestra). As for Guns N' Roses, I was probably the only person on the third floor of Hume Hall at the University of Florida who didn't get excited every time Sweet Child o' Mine" and "Paradise City" played on the radio or MTV during freshman year. [...]

I love Saturdays. Saturday mornings especially. No husbandly iPhone alarm blaring, slow to rise, leisurely grazing on fatty brunch food and celebrity guest DJ hour on my favorite local radio station. I find it fascinating to hear what makes an artist tick and how often the music selected seems to be in total contradiction to what they themselves produce. Last Saturday I was disgusted and excited to find that everyone’s favorite Frenchies, Justice, were spinning the wax fantastic. Intrigued, I settled in. First, a little background. When I first heard the D.A.N.C.E single several years ago I was [...]

Happy Leap Day, everyone! As you all know, leap day is the extra special bonus day we get every four years at the end of February, and where ( as 30 Rock shows us ) the gilled & mustachioed Leap Day William emerges from his home at the bottom of the Mariana Trench to trade children's tears for candy. It was, of course, immortalized in the Jim Carrey film Leap Dave Williams (which is showing all day today on the USA network), where uptight lawyer Dave Williams turns into the real Leap Day William (classic line: "I definitely don't [...]

Ryan Monroe might be in Band of Horses but this isn't your father's Band of Horses... this is your grandfather's Beatles, or your fathers much older brother's (Your old-ass Uncle) Electric Light Orchestra.
