Punk rock is alive and well in Lexington and one of the spirited leaders of the herd is The Elsinores. The three-piece have been on fire this year, turning in brilliant live performances and consistent recordings. The You're the One 73 is an independently released blast of central Kentucky fury. Whilst capturing the sound and [...]

They'd set up in the front of the main room of a frat house or on stage at the campus bar and play crowd-friendly tunes while everyone danced. Lots of light beer would be spilled. Did your college cover [...]

Naja, [...]
We come to the last of The Wounded Jukebox's Best Songs of 2010 lists. I made an effort to avoid repeating artists on my list in order to include more of the songs that I loved this year. The resulting list is a pretty good representation of the tunes I discovered in 2010. I prefer [...]

Canasta | Photo by Sarah Hadley “Take Five” is an interview series that focuses on Chicago’s ever-growing music scene by giving you insight on the city’s best local acts via the best source possible: the acts themselves. We ask five questions, and they give five answers. Here is the latest installment featuring Canasta. Orch-pop band Canasta began as a nonchalant experiment by Matt Priest in early 2002. Eight years, and two very welcomed albums later, seventeen members have come and gone and Canasta has finally found its [...]

Artist: Elsinore Latest Release: Yes Yes Yes Genre: Pop/Rock/Indie There's something about the title Yes Yes Yes that carries an almost overeager urgency to it, but that's not really what you get from indie pop artists Elsinore on their excellent third album. Certainly the record has plenty of energetic, even anthematic moments, yet it also bears the mark of a band that is willing to be patient in order to get the most out of their songs. Granted, the explosive hooks and sing-a-long [...]
Hey, it’s Jeremy from the Fingertips web site and I’m back with a selection of the best songs featured on Fingertips in August. If you want some background on what I’m doing here, check out the May edition , in which I more fully introduced myself. Week 1 : "Down By The Water" - The Drums Setting a ’50s-style melody to a stately, hymn-like march, “Down By The Water” is beautiful and odd and tormented and stirring. (Read the entire review .) (Other artists featured week 1: [...]

Releasing their third album 'Yes Yes Yes' on 10th August, Elsinore (of Champaign, Illinois) are little-known on British shores. A veritable mix of indie-pop and heartfelt Midwestern country, they're one of the best bands you're never heard with orchestral climbs and romancing lyrics. Elsinore, has created the ul... Read more..
[ download ] [tweetmeme] The Champaign-Urbana, Illinois music scene has never quite attained the hipster cachet that other college towns like Athens, Georgia or Winston-Salem, North Carolina have had, and that’s a little odd. The U of I’s hometown has produced plenty of great music, from the Elvis Brothers to Adam Schmitt, The Poster Children and The Headlights. No less a powerhouse outfit than King Crimson was based there for a while in the 1980s when Adrian Belew called the place home. And most importantly, the revered indie label [...]

The Weekly...or for this occasion, "Monthly" Graboid is back once again after another lengthy absence. No excuses, but it's here and there is more than enough new stuff to sample for the month of August. As of right now I can promise updates on TYS this week, and possibly beyond considering I renewed my hosting service for another year. It's been extremely difficult to remain motivated with this site, but all the support from all of our readers is what makes me continue to push forward. I've also created a Tumblr page that I find [...]

Jonathan Visger from Mason Proper (aka Absofacto ) sent me a note last week that he'd completed a remix for Elsinore; a mashup of 3 or 4 of their songs to create a completely new track. You can download the track for free , along with his remix of Ra Ra Riot 's 'Each Year', his awesome LCD Soundsystem/Kanye mashup of 'Love Lockdown/Get Innocuous' and a cover of the Mamas and the Papas 'California Dreaming'. Absofacto covers and remixes .

What you have below is "Happiness Is What You Want," a mash-up of four Elsinore tracks that were thrown together under the Absofacto moniker! Enjoy and grab yourself a copy of Yes Yes Yes here . It’s is a little after midnight on Friday, August 20. The Bears of Blue River , followed by Canasta – both extremely talented Chicago bands – just finish a pair of inspired sets at Lincoln Avenue’s finest cheese-and-noodle-serving musical establishment, Lincoln Hall . Now, with four horn-playing musicians crammed onto stage left and four additional violin-clad musicians in reserve, things are about to get serious. Two guys with music composition degrees from Eastern Illinois University and two other rhythmically-inclined gentlemen who comprise the Champaign-Urbana-based headliner, Elsinore , position themselves on stage to celebrate [...]

Back from a little summer hiatus, here's a special doubleshot edition of Drake's Take . -ed. Drake's Take: New Releases 08.10.10-08.17.10 I've been out of town on vacation, so the blog's taken a backseat, but wanted to throw together something for the past two weeks because of two releases - the second release from Bottomless Pit and the finely crafted soundtrack to Scott Pilgrim vs the World . Not much else got me out of my seat, but then again, most everyone takes at least part of the [...]
