The Grammys are this Sunday and if memory serves me right, the general sentiment is kind of "blah" compared to previous years. It use to be an honor to perform, but now you have artists declining (Bon Iver) the opportunity. Adele will win > 2 Grammys and the Beach Boys playing with Foster the People smells kind of desperate. Who knows, Katy Perry might actually go home with an award or Skrillex might be selected as Best New Artist? Kaskade // Deadmau5 - Move For Me (TABS Remix) [...]

For fans who have waited since before his breakthrough album, "Similes" (released under his more widely known Eluvium moniker), Matthew Cooper's soundtrack to Some Days Are Better Than Others is scheduled to be released on April 26th. The film stars James Mercer (Broken Bells, The Shins) and Carrie Brownstein (Portlandia, Sleater-Kinney) as strangers whose lives occasionally intersect as they navigate their way through the struggles of personal attachment and disconnection.

Explosions of the Sky return with their latest LP Take Care, Take Care, Take Care 90ooi8 on April 26th, and three weeks prior, Austin, TX instrumental rockers will look to support the release with a North American tour. Launching April 1st in Oxford, MS, the trek will see quartet then hit Charlotte, NC and Richmond, VA on their way to a previously announced April 6th show at Radio City Music Hall in New York. After that, they'll turn west for two shows in Ohio and one in Pittsburgh. Then, about a month later, the [...]

it is cold and gray and dead and rainy...but you know, it still sparkles depending on yer outlook. this month i decided to focus my mix on a few bands from the pacific northwest, a few having recently played or coming to play seattle next month, a few songs from my past that all this new awesome music reminds me of, and one song that just plain reminds me of how boring it is to be depressed all the time. enough with killin' that vibe; take yer vitamin d dammit , and enjoy the music! gorgeous [...]

It's a snow storm outside, and I'm warming up inside under a blanket, with Eluvium pouring out from my speakers. That was what I felt the first time I listened to them: warmth and cosiness. Similes is one of those few ambient albums which doesn't get lost at some point, and you forget it's playing somewhere in the background. It's there, present, getting under your skin, contributing to your mood. Very beautiful artwork, as usually. [...]

20. LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening I have mixed feelings about this album. Is it really really good or really really really good? Whichever it is, James Murphy has done it yet again – got me dancing like an idiot. -------------------- 19. Green Gerry - Odd Tymes Odd Tymes is beautifully odd to be sure. In terms of bedroom folk/pop drenched in soggy ambience, I've never [...]
75. Ef - Mourning Golden Morning Swedish post-rock group Ef have always been able to capture the essence of emotional instrumental music. But with the addition of hesitant vocals and otherworldly themes, Ef treads new ground with dense production and brilliant arrangements with Mourning Golden Mourning . Now if only we could get them to tour the US. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] [mp3] Ef - [...]
This week marks the re-release of the debut LP, Learning, from Seattle solo artist, Mike Hadreas, who releases music as Perfume Genius. His music is deep, painful and personal, a reflection of a troubled youth that was not in his control. And this is evident in his wrenching expressions that permeate throughout his recordings. These [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

[RSS Readers: See post to listen to audio] Rocking with the new Deerhunter record is fun but I hate wearing out a record too early so I started digging thru some Atlas Sound and pulled out this gem of an early EP. Arp has some light synth work that takes some time to grow but that growing time is where you want spend your time listening, soo relaxing. For those who bought the Matthew Dear album on CD you didn't get this digital bonus from Matt. [...]

Weezer has returned with an unfortunately titled and designed album. Les Savy Fav has returned with more post-punk, beardy, large-guy-with-no-shirt goodness. Of Montreal are back with more drugged-out dance pop. Azure Ray and Superchunk have returned. Bill Hicks has a box set. (RIP) Brandon Flowers of The Killers has a solo piece. DOOM has a new one that will inevitably be the chillest and most [...]
The Black Heart Procession can be a handy band to be familiar with, if you aren't already. For one, their name sound really intense and can make you look like a badass around non-music savvy people (kind of like School of Seven Bells). Just saying "I'm going to go see The Black Heart Procession (note: often shortened by fans to just 'Black Heart')" can raise your numerical rating one to two points in the eyes of the opposite sex. Secondly, if you ever find you hipster status called into question or find someone inferring that you are a poseur, [...]
