Elvis Depressedly is a peculiar, yet inventive surname for a musician to take on -- but peculiar and inventive are the two words that first come to mind when listening to this solo project from Mat Cothran, formerly of Coma Cinema. His latest album, Cutters Only, The Ontological Anarchy Of Elvis Depressedly, is dark and dreamy, loaded with aching vocals, emotive lyrics, and abstract instrumentation. Stream the Cutters Only... the album, in its entirety below. Read more »

Cutters Only, the Ontological Anarchy of Elvis Depressedly . Allegedly recorded "in a laundry room on broken equipment", "A [...]
Stream: Elvis Depressedly- "Waves of Bad Intention" Mat Cothran-a singer-songwriter known mostly for his work under the name Coma Cinema-has recently been pushing a side project of his, Depressedly. Under the Depressedly name, Mat has released a new track. This project's past releases are very similar to Coma Cinema, and usually just a bit more experimental with vocal distortion. "Waves of Bad Intention" is different from of all of these previous releases; it was recorded professionally in a studio. This may worry some since the raw sound is part of the appeal [...]

Now having tweaked his two EPs into one single release, and made it available through iTunes, Cothran has stayed true to his word by releasing a couple more free tracks. Recorded for Glamour Kills Clothing , the four track GLMR KLLS EP is available for free via their [...]

The Best Songs Of 2011 (76 - 100) Making the Best Albums list was relatively easy compared to nailing down the 100 best songs of 2011. The level of incredible music to surface this year is unbelievable. What's more difficult is trying to create some sort of order when laying these songs out, what makes [...]
The second part of Given and Taken in Ink's autumn mix is now up on 8tracks: Every time I make a new list, I think it's the best one I've ever done. Sometimes that's actually true. This just may be one of those times. There's the pure pop joy (no pun intended) of "Murderous Joy," the quirky brilliance of Siskiyou, and the weary rasp of Dan Mangan. I love the tranquility of "State / Meant" juxtaposed with the anxiously dreamlike "Curfews." "Ghost Towns" and "My Friends" are highlights of two masterful albums. And I [...]

Tweet The best news I've heard in the last few weeks is that Mat Cothran will be continuing on with his recently acquired Elvis Depressedly moniker. I'm a huge fan of artists who place art before self. By putting out music under a band name it throws all pretensions aside and allows us to take in the music without the unnecessary distraction that comes with solo artists. If there's one thing I've learned from following Cothran's musical endeavors is that this guy [...]

It's with a heavy heart that CITR posts the new EP from Elvis Depressedly , (the side project of Matt from Coma Cinema ), as it signals the end of the project and the band as a whole. But what a way to bow out, three wistful tracks full of pain and redemption. At times it's bitter and longing, at others bitter and hopeful, but always captivating and brokenly soulful. With tears falling from our eyes, we wish them the all the best.

Daily Doses: Elvis Depressedly "Crazier With You" From Disgraceland (2011) Label: Self Released Well, this is just a delightful treat. Mat Cothran (of Coma Cinema) has released a third and (apparently) final EP as Elvis Depressedly. "Crazier With You", the second song on the EP is exactly the kind of twisted that makes me love all of Cothran's stuff. A delicate malaise colored with the feeling of freezing to death. I think that might be love. Download [...]

Mat Cothran, formerly of the now-deceased Coma Cinema , offers a new solo project dubbed elvis depressedly . And as the title suggests, the tunes play downright melancholy. However, elvis d. crafts a beautifully aching melancholia that has tangible emotion and life. click to listen: elvis depressedly - mickey yr a fuck up Although the S.C.-based Cothran may be mega-afflicted, the reality of his pain translates to his heartbreaking music is inspiring. Forgoing the drone stylings of his first Elvis Depressedly release, Coma Cinema mastermind Mat Cothran returns with a second EP a bit closer to his original sound. Not unlike his most recent Coma EP, Abandoned Lands , Goner takes Mat's general singer song writer form and spins it on its head. Goner is filled with antagonistic titles, lyrics and recording techniques dead set on frustrating its audience. Don't let that scare you off though, the EP is most certainly a work of art. If nothing else, Goner highlights two of Mat's very special traits: his ability to immerse his [...]
