Hello everyone! The photo above is a crane I saw at Canary Wharf in London. ( download the high res version ) Not sure why I picked it today, it just felt right. Things have been a mess around here lately because @DorothyJS and I have been travelling so much. So my apologies for the weak performance. Sometimes work, travel, and having fun get in the way of running this website. Back in the day when only a few of you we're listening it didn't matter. But now that there are thousands of people listening each [...]

For years Doug Appling has been producing some of the cleanest, most finely produced trip hop the world under his Emancipator moniker. Just recently he debuted his new album, Dusk To Dawn . When we spoke with him to find out more about his recording and editing process, Doug said, "I record everything at my home studio surrounded by various guitars, keyboards, percussion, and stringed instruments. I'll loop a particular section of the arrangement, record improvised jams, and listen back over to find the best bits. As far as other samples, I'll browse though different sounds while [...]

True fans of music spend countless hours searching for that next great song, album or artist, whether it be online or in a local record shop. The beautiful thing about music in today’s age is that technology has created an infinite supply of great music that is available to us at the click of a mouse. How perfect is that? We can discover a brand new artist on the opposite side of the globe in seconds without a radio or a music television channel. It only makes sense that a website so dedicated to this gorgeous universe of music would [...]

Seattle producer duo ODESZA , who I mentioned via Twitter a few nights back have their lovely Summer's Gone mixtape free to download on their site, have released the firework-themed video for "IPlayYouListen." Director Diego Contreras captured Christmas in Guatemala, which seems like a much different version of the holiday we're used to in the states, for the short video available below. Bonus: ODESZA will be heading out on tour soon on their native West coast alongside Emancipator [...]

Walking into Irving Plaza this past Friday felt like walking into really big party in someone’s backyard more than it felt like a concert. While Tor , Random Rab , and Emancipator all put on a heckuva show the vibe stayed relaxed. Part of the credit for that is due to the cozy atmosphere of being able to feel close to the performer from the back of the house . It doesn’t hurt that these performers all come from the West Coast, with Emancipator hailing from one of the friendliest, most Lebowski-esque cities in the country, [...]
