When I got an email that Emil & Friends have covered M83's monster "Midnight City", I was a bit nervous. While I enjoy the NY band a good deal, the song has already been mashed up, remixed and covered countless times already. Having said that, Emil makes his version of the song sound absolutely ntohing like the original. Emil & Friends brand new single is blowing me away. "Crystal Ball" is a ridiculously good electro rock burner, that has a huge whirling sound that won't be contained through your poor set of headphones. My crystal ball predicts you will get off your computer right now, find about 20 of your closest friends, make your living room a lively dance floor, and play this song on repeat. Emil's debut, Lo & Behold , will be out October 11th through Cantora Records.

Emil & Friends: Short Order Cooks Emil & Friends have been bubbling round the surface for a while but their moment never came. It's a shame because they play some great experimental electro-pop that certainly has a niche within the indie market. In hindsight, they could have cashed in during the post- MGMT / Passion Pit psychedelic phase but fate thought otherwise. Either way, this is (good) music to my ears. MP3 available at All Things Go .

The team at Communion gathered a line-up of very talented yet relatively unknown musicians to play at Public Assembly for its Brooklyn launch party on Sunday night.
