She sang as a soprano in the local choir at the mere age of 7 years old. Emiliana Torrini Daviosdottir released her first album when she was the young age of 17. Since then, she has released four other albums AND participated in five collaborations. By the age of 28 Emiliana had seven singles. If you can't tell by her name, she is from Iceland, but as faraway as Australia her music is even being used in ad campaigns. More famous than that she is included on the "Lord of the Ring: Two Towers soundtrack." There [...]
Not me, but an internet pal clearly is feeling rather shit. If you're reading this, you probably know who you are. For everyone else, when I say shit, I don't mean a bit miserable. I mean a long and painful catalogue of soul-destroying things that would be enough to test any one [...]

Photography by Matt Sharkey Hey baby, got another for you... TSURURADIO fan Rebecca sent this one in, Emiliana Torrini's "Honeymoon Child" that Bill Callahan covered on his new album. I know you won't be singing Bill on the top of your lungs, so maybe Emiliana will fit the bill? Thanks Rebecca for this wonderful gem! Another lovely song for a another wonderful weekend. Enjoy... Emiliana Torrini - Honeymoon Child You are true honeymoon child [...]

The Best Men of Brel-post ( below ) stirred quite a few reactions. Here's five more coverversions, thanks for the requests and the mp3s you send me. Emiliana Torrini (pictured) is a sureshot on this blog, if she only would sing in French. Alas, the charming songbird keeps it English. But she did a beautiful (and tearful) version of Ne Me Quitte Pas , so there. Talk about tears: Marlene Dietrich is on the verge of a very serious breakdown while singing Bitte Geh Nicht Fort ( Ne Me Quitte [...]

I wanted to like Joanna Newsom--I really did. There aren't nearly enough vocalists playing instruments other than guitar, and I suspect that her deliberately obscured rhythms would delight a musician who's interested in thinking about that sort of thing; but it just feels obstructivist to me in the end. Emiliana Torrini has some of the same babylike vocal qualities that Joanna Newsom shares with Björk and Anais Mitchell ; but it doesn't feel like she's trying to keep you out of her music like Newsom, and her mannerisms aren't obtrusive and distracting [...]
I told my internet people here in Seattle to turn it off August 1st. While I'm still prepared to wake up tomorrow without internet, I'm keeping in mind I told them to turn my cable off July 1st and they didn't get around to it until July 10th or so. For now I'll post this as my farewell post until I get back home, with a post from an internet cafe every now and then. Death From Above 1979 - [...]
