There is a website out there called The Playlist Presents... It is very good. Okay, I should probably be a little bit more descriptive. It is a music and film website that does a very good job of making playlists in the style of certain artists. So this is the first part of the Halloween mixtapes i promised. This is just a short "creepy" one. It clocks in at about 40 odd minutes. While walking home late at night earlier this week i came up with the concept of making an atmospheric and "intimidating" mixtape that could be used at the beginning of a party, maybe just as the guests are arriving or whatever. The video for Emily Haines and the Soft Skeleton's single "Dr. Blind" is fittingly eerie. Haines walks through a brightly lit, cold department store heading to the pharmacy before the lights go out and Haines finds herself seemingly alone in the now mysteriously emptied store. I can honestly say I'm a fan of pretty much everything Emily Haines has done so far, musically. There is Metric of course, and there is her solo stuff, but there's also - let's not forget - her many wonderful collaborations. Some, like " Anthems for a 17-year Old Girl ", seem to be universally loved while others, like " Stopwatch Hearts " or " Uptown Girl ", are less well known. Saturday Night/Yesterday morning I did something kind of stupid; I drove from Chicago to Nashville on six hours of sleep, after spending the day walking around Chicago for 8 hours.
